Equine Canada would like to extend its sincere condolences to the family of Dr. Craig Ferrell, and the United States Equestrian Federation (USEF). Dr. Ferrell, who served as the U.S. Team Doctor, recently died as a result of injuries sustained in a polo match.

May 17, 2012— Rebecca Howard and Selena O’Hanlon led the Canadian team at the 2012 CCI /CIC Jersey Fresh Three Day Event, held May 10–13, in Allentown, New Jersey, USA by placing first and third in their respective divisions. The competition also featured top ten performances by Hawley Bennett-Awad, Michele Mueller, Jessica Phoenix and Shandiss Wewiora.

Positive EVH-1 in Douglas County, Colorado

May 16, 2012—A horse in Douglas County, Colorado, United States, has tested positive for equine herpesvirus-1, according to a statement from the Colorado Department of Agriculture (CDA), and the facility at which the horse resided has been placed under quarantine.

Suspected EHV-1 Reported in Tennessee

May 16, 2012—The Tennessee Department of Agriculture (TDA) of the United States has received reports of suspected cases of Equine Herpesvirus (EHV-1) infection in horses that participated in a recent trail ride in Tennessee. Six to eightsuspected cases of the neurological form of EHV-1 have been reported to the state veterinarian's office. Horses are being treated, isolated and monitored by their attending veterinarian.
