2009-07-24 Jul 24, 2009: Sklar Brothers at Lakeshore Theater

Innovative, intelligent, and always hilarious, the Sklar Brothers are bringing their stand-up duo act to the Lakeshore Theater. The identical twins not only have a unique “interplay” delivery style, but they also possess an insightful point of view, which has made them favorites of both the mainstream and alternative comedy scenes. Their impressive body of work includes their beloved ESPN Classic series Cheap Seats, as well as guest appearances on shows like Grey’s Anatomy and Entourage. However, it is in their stand-up where the Sklars truly shine.

Mike Stanley will also be a feature performer in all four Sklar Brothers' shows!
BIO'S:
| KENNETH THOMAS |

"Kenneth Thomas is without doubt one of the most promising young DJs in the electronic scene right now. There's an intelligence and a well defined style to his sets. He's quickly emerging as one to watch in the next generation of superstar DJs".

When Paul Oakenfold has this to say about someone people can tend to stop and take a listen. Following in an elite class consisting of Dave Ralph, D:Fuse & Hernan Cattaneo, its seems every 5 years or so Oakenfold hand picks a future star to take under his wing and the latest selection is Kenneth Thomas.

Out of Detroit, the birthplace of Techno, KT stands out with his emotional and melodic sound. Some might not see the connection of Detroit and his sound, but the connection is there. The same aggression that spawned the techno sounds of the 90's is the fuel that fires Kenneth to explore the emotional side of the musical experience. Music has always been a spiritual place for Kenneth and because the depth of this music goes well beyond a conscious level, there's an underlying exploration of emotion and experience in every set and track.

In the last three years, Kenneth has also become a juggernaut in the studio having completed over 40 tracks and remixes for labels including Baroque, Armada, Om, Perfecto, Cuurve, Alter Ego, Hope and more. Now, busy working on his second EP for Markus Schulzs' Coldharbour and coming off recent remixes for David Guetta, Jan Johnston, Oliver Moldan, Jeff Mills and even Scott Wieland, we have seen this Dj at heart break new ground in the areas of production. Beyond DJing & Producing, KT is now also A&R for Perfecto Records and is helping spearhead the renaissance of one of the greatest labels dance music has ever seen.

The future is bright for Kenneth Thomas. Now touring regularly around the world sharing his blend of progressive minded dance music his focus has never changed since day one, "This is the most amazing sound I have ever encountered, I just want to share it with as many people as possible".

| TRENT CANTRELLE |

Starting out in New Orleans in the early 90s Trent Cantrelle was constantly called upon to adapt his skills and sound to a dizzying array of circumstances. He gained much of his experience as the go-to DJ for the notorious promoter, Disco Donnie. When he wasn't dodging the feds, it was these events where Trent received the opportunity to play alongside all of the top names in club music from Fatboy Slim to Sasha & Digweed, to Oakenfold and Derrick Carter. If a major jock rolled through New Orleans, no matter how different their style, Trent was always sharing the bill. In addition to these varied and high profile gigs Trent headlined around town and was also somehow able to find time for the occasional ten hour set. At one point he even had a residency where he got to fill all ten hours every week. Not a lot of DJs can handle too many extra long sets, or can excel at an opening slot one night and peak time the next, and even fewer can cater their sound to complement such a diverse range of DJs but somehow Trent manages to do all of that and more.

After mastering any DJ-ing situation you could think of and reigning supreme as the top name in New Orleans for a few years, Trent decided to expand his horizons and hit the road for the West Coast. Deciding to skip the mecca of Deep and Groovy that is San Francisco, Trent headed towards the glamour and glory of Hollywood where his love of Rock and Roll and his passion for film could be indulged along with his electronic sensibilities. It is in LA that Trent's production work really took off on a global level. As his own tracks began charting high on labels like Ministry of Sound, Interscope, Little Mountain Recordings, Whoop!, and SR2 and getting play by just about every big name DJ you can throw out there, he started to build his la DJ profile and beyond. His talents have taken him everywhere you could expect, rocking the top dance-floors in NYC, Chicago, Las Vegas, Miami, Mexico, South America as well as all the top spots in his new home LA.

When his smash rock hybrid hit "Runaway", co written with Nynex got essential new tune and scored as one of the top tunes at WMC 2005 he was clocked by Pete Tong as "One of the hottest dance talents from the US". For those who had seen him spin or heard his tracks, this was old news. Since then he has more than lived up to the billing, constantly one-upping himself. He has DJ-ed at the Playboy Mansion. He plays some of the biggest clubs such as Space Terrace in Miami, Pacha and Crobar New York, and Avalon in Los Angeles. He rocked in the New Year for LA's GIANT MAXIMUS New Years Eve bash. Not to mention touring alongside Pete Tong, Sandra Collins and Sander Kleinenberg from time to time. He even performed at America's best outdoor music festival, Coachella this past year. His original tracks and remixes continue to appear on compilation after compilation. Then, just for good measure, his remix of Maroon 5's "Make Me Wonder" hit number one on the Billboard dance charts.

On the horizon is an upcoming remix off of Seal's new album for Warner Brothers, a variety of singles on labels such as Little Mountain Recordings, Organized Nature, and more. 2008 will also see the release of his full-length artist album. On the DJ-ing front he will be hosting his own "Sounds Like" residency night at LA's Avalon, as well as new digital label. From being the leading DJ in New Orleans and Los Angeles, to a leading producer around the world there is not much Trent Cantrelle has not done.
2009-09-05 Sep 5, 2009: Nice Jewish Girls Gone Bad at Lakeshore Theater

Nice Jewish Girls Gone Bad is a refreshing mix of comedy, music, spoken-word and show-stopping burlesque. It stars gals who learned to smoke at Hebrew School, got drunk at their Bat-Mitzvahs and would rather have more schtuppa than the chupah. Nice Jewish Girls Gone Bad features a rotating cast of comedians Ophira Eisenberg (Comedy Central), Cynthia Levin (Comedy Central), booty shakin' by Sister Schmaltz and hosted by queen of the quick change, The Goddess Perlman (Last Comic Standing) and performers have been seen on Comedy Central, HBO and Late Night TV. These badass chosen chicks boldly dare to deconstruct years of tradition, expectations and guilt in a fast-paced vaudeville extravaganza. It's ain't yo' mama's Fiddler!

Nice Jewish Girls Gone Bad has been spreading their own brand of nuevo schmaltz across the land to sold-out crowds in NYC, DC, Baltimore, Boston, Philadelphia, Providence, Miami, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Santa Cruz, Pittsburgh, Madison, Detroit, Montreal, Burlington, Provincetown, The Berkshires, The Hamptons, and of course, The Catskills and now are making their way to the Chicago for two shows on September 5th at 7:30pm and 10:30pm.
Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter and Erik Stolhanske, comprise the five-member filmmaking comedy group Broken Lizard. Broken Lizard formed at Colgate University as a student sketch comedy group. Following graduation, they relocated to New York City, where they performed live shows in exchange for sexual favors.

The group began its feature film career with their award-winning debut Puddle Cruiser in 1996. They followed up with the independently-financed, cult-hit Super Troopers (Fox Searchlight), which premiered at the 2001 Sundance Film Festival and was released worldwide in February 2002. In 2005, the group co-wrote and acted in the film remake of the popular 70’s television series The Dukes of Hazzard (Warner Bros), which was directed by Chandrasekhar. They followed their work on Dukes of Hazzard with Beerfest, released in August 2006.

Broken Lizard recently finished their next film, The Slammin’ Salmon, which was shot in Los Angeles in January of 2008. The film stars Broken Lizard and is slated for release in late 2009.
2009-10-10 Oct 10, 2009: Tyrone Wells at Lakeshore Theater

Tyrone Wells has delivered an epic pop/rock album with his second major label effort, Remain. Pursuing a more collaborative process and having added a more lush production to his singer–songwriter roots, the new album proves to be a great showcase for his powerful and emotional voice.

The Spokane, WA native’s desire to ‘open up the process’ found him traveling to London to work with a circle of songwriters/musicians who aligned with Wells’ musical direction. “Half of the album was done in London and the other half completed here in the states,” says Wells. “I didn’t know what kind of record I was going to make before I got to London, but something just seemed to click while I was there that really defined what I wanted to do with this album.” Invoking a cathartic creative process from the very beginning for Remain, the songwriter penned an astounding 60 songs for the record.
“…new album proves to be a great showcase for his powerful and emotional voice.”

Tyrone worked with songwriter/producer Martin Terefe (Jason Mraz, KT Tunstall, James Morrison) and Iain Archer (UK indie artist and Snow Patrol co–writer) in the UK, and Tim Myers (formerly of OneRepublic), David Hodges (formerly of Evanescence) and Matt Scannell (Vertical Horizon) in the U.S. Creating a work that manages to be more guitar–edged than previous Wells’ efforts – but still unabashedly soul–baring – he appreciated huddling with collaborators like Terefe, who –like Wells – is a big believer in trusting one’s instincts. “We had great chemistry together.” “Losing Ground,” one of a handful of production/songwriting collaborations between Wells and Terefe, was written and demoed in less than 3 hours during their first writing session together.

Wells has found himself on a new musical path on his second Universal Republic effort, but he continues to display the same gritty determination and work ethic that has enabled him to chart his own course from the very beginning. Wells launched his career unveiling his first indie release with the take–me–as–I–am motif of 2003’s Snapshot. An in–demand live offering followed in 2005: Close: Live at McClain’s, (the coffeehouse where he established his raved–about live rep) capturing the singer’s unique intimacy with an audience.

Soon, major labels came calling. “All of a sudden, after five years of doing everything on my own steam I had all these labels interested,” says Wells. His 2007 release, the soulful Hold On, was originally his third indie record. The album was picked up by Universal Republic and released untouched as his major label debut.

The buzz surrounding Wells’ inspiring wealth of songs was also beginning to land him song placements in films and TV shows. To date Tyrone has had significant placements including “One Tree Hill,” “Everyone’s Hero,” “Rescue Me,” “Ghost Whisperer,” “Numbers,” “Criminal Minds,” “Army Wives,” “What About Brian,” “The 50 Greatest Moments at Madison Square Garden” and the “Rails & Ties” trailer.
