Lindie and Hendrik tied the knot on April and I hope these pics will delight with the same amount of fun as it was to capture the images of this stunning couple! It happened in the Rawsonville surroundings at the Trout Haven in Dwarsberg, gorgeous area.

The strange and complicated irony of life. So today I was feeling good on my way to a Pick-n-Pay I saw a beggar sitting against the wall, white guy, nothing unusual nowadays, and I always feel sorry for them, although I wont show it and will chase them away, today I found myself feeling very empathic, so I decided to buy him some food to give to him when I come out and wouldnt you know, when I got outside he was gone!

I even went looking for him but could’nt find him and I felt sad, knowing how he must feel, not allowed inside the Pick-n-Pay, resentment, bitterness and sadness and here comes a stranger wanting to help but he missed that opportunity, or maybe I missed it, maybe it was my lesson, I don’t know yet but I still feel bad.

Although I have helped so many people like this before and in other ways I never tell anyone about it. Like I’ve never told anyone that I shoot at least one wedding a year completely pro bono! This year I feel like I might just surprise someone with that news, hopefully they will be getting married somewhere very exotic! Hawaii, New York, Tokyo, Paris, Maldives and Rome comes to mind This previous post come to mind.

Last year I shot some covers for Finesse Magazine, unfortunately I dont have the final cover designs with the text and overlays, so in the mean time I can only show the un-cover-edited versions. Please do enjoy this behind the scenes look.

For one of the shoots I had the opportunity to work with the amazing Anna-Mart van der Merwe. En so slaan ek oor na afrikaans. Sy het haar voete nou so plat op die aarde soos wat mens kan kry! Letterlik! Syt omtrent heeldag lekker kaalvoet rondgeloop en selfs toe ons n krisus beleef het met n vreeslike verstuiting van die grimmering girl se enkel het sy hand bygesit om te help. So down to earth soos wat mens kan kry en boonop nog beeldskoon en talentvol!

Anna-Mart is al sedert die 90′s besig om haar tyd te spandeer met kinders van Die Downsyndrome Vereniging van Suid Afrika. Sy is hul beskermvrou en dit bring haar groot vreugde om vir hulle vreugde te bring, amazing!

Hello to the people who read and follow my bloggging adventures. Yes I know there are three g’s but that’s how it felt at that moment! Firstly I’d like to apologize for the few posts lately, just some of my clients prefer privacy to being blogged so no new photos from weddings, but maybe I can persuade them so that I can post “non people” related photos I am also experiencing a very quiet season and it has given me loads of time to reflect and rethink my position in the industry. So many young new guys with incredible talent sprouting up everywhere, it’s hard to compete when budgets are tight and talent is overflowing. I have been doing this for over 10 years so I have proven that I have staying power and you know even Madonna has to reinvent herself from time to time to stay on top, so I guess this is my challenge now, to reinvent and relaunch, seems like such an odd experience to go through after a long career but it might be a very good thing!

Branding has become such an important part of any business model, branding and aggressive marketing. I used to  think that was showing up at someones door with a couple of tough guys from a mobster movie! I still have loads to learn when it comes to business, as an artist it’s not a natural strong point for me and I think a lot of people who become successful quickly have a strong established sense of what business is all about. Artists could not be bothered, but I sometimes wonder if that wasn’t a turning point for myself. When I started concentrating on business instead of just being an artist I could have subconsciously changed how I was perceived, I don’t know, just a thought. What do you think?

These two shots were taken right after another, the one is without flash and the other with flash. I have to adjust exposure for the no flash photo cause it was just too dark being shot at the same settings and all. Beauty dish on the profoto flash. 1/8000th at f2.8, ISO 200

There has been many debates on what is better and there is still no clear answer. Some people love available light and other love flash for me, I love being able to use any of the two when I need to. With flash you can create surreal looking images, without flash you capture the real moment.

So which do you prefer?
