this week marked the end of my sketchbook! I chose to use pen for these sketches, because I only had five pages to work with at the beginning of this session.

Maya

we had a new model this week, Maya. As a model, she was very expressive and really gave a strong range of poses…it helps that I sketch with animators.

this week, I returned again to charcoal, because it has really helped me expand my drawings to fill the page. Something that I have been struggling with in this sketchbook. The only problem is that I have probably one more sketch session in this book before I finish it!

as always, I am pretty happy with my oil pastel sketches, but I need to choose my colors more wisely. The tan and purple colors weren’t allowing for the subtle blending that I wanted. However, I am not complaining as I still think the drawings (especially the head!) this week were good.

finally, I have had a chance (& some inspiration) to get a new piece finished. It also allowed me another chance to work with color pencil, which I love, but don’t use enough.

part of me is playing around with the idea of creating a series of this same image but using different mediums. I would call it: Eggs, three ways. I really like the idea, but not sold on if this image is the best for it.

it was really nice to get into drawing again…as my summer starts coming to a close, it is going to be harder to dedicate so much time to drawing.

I love the juxtaposition and the throw back to the early 50′s of these painting by Kelly Reemtsen. It is always nice to see artwork that goes back to the figure.

since I have been struggling with motivation, I have decided to work with some other mediums and take myself out of my comfort zone. Please work!

oil pastels, 08/2011

oil pastels are perfect for these long poses, as I can get the majority of the model’s body in and work on blending to make finer details. Every time I use oil pastels, I am pleased with the results and this time is no different. It is weird, but I have actually missed using them.

lately, I have been working on trying to figure out a way to mix oil pastels into my artwork. We’ll see what happens.

these haunting images by artist Jeremy Geddes are so amazing. The realism of the works as well as the total silence that I feel when I look at the pieces make it so I can’t take my eyes away.

we had Adrian back this week and it is always a pleasure to draw him. He comes up with some great poses and uses a lot of the items in the room to help make his gestures more dramatic.

as for motivation, I am still struggling, but I am thinking that not trying to push it is the best option. Hopefully, I will have something soon.
