Hillary Boucher was one of my first “online friends.” We met about five years ago through natural parenting discussion forum and she has been part of my world ever since.

Hillary’s words comfort and support me, while at the same time provoking me and encouraging me to grow and look at things from different angles.

I am grateful to have her in my life and delighted to share this space with her.

In this show Hillary and I talk surprise pregnancies, small business start-up, saving the midwives, taking a break from blogging and much, much more!

This show was recorded earlier this month and is about 45 minutes long.

Hillary is a wildly imperfect mother and partner who works from home as a full-time social media and community professional. She lives in downtown Ithaca, NY and loves exploring her vibrant community with her husband and three young children.

A blogger-on-pause, homeschooler, active maternal health activist and partner to a small business owner she is a professional juggler who is constantly looking for ways to simplify and live more efficiently. She is co-founder of BirthSwell, sits on the board of Citizens for Midwifery, regularly contributes to Simple Homeschool and wishes she had more time to blog at …infinite learners…

Hillary loves people watching, getting inspired by great ideas and has a soft spot for social justice. You can find her tweeting at @hillaryboucher.

When I visit Rachel Turiel’s beautiful blog, 6512 and Growing, I never know if I will laugh or cry (or both) but I always know that I will be moved deep within my soul.

Rachel’s gorgeous words and photos inspire me to keep writing, to keep moving forward towards my homesteading dreams, and to remember to put all the project lists aside and savor the sweet and tender moments with my children.

In this show, Rachel and I talk homeschooling, homesteading and hunting. (And road kill, of course.) We also talk overwhelm, small spaces, the early years of parenting and why it is so important to have time away from our children.

This show was recorded in February, 2012 and is about 45 minutes long.

* * * * *

Rachel Turiel is a mother, wife, freelance-writer, yogurt-maker, roadkill-eater, garden-grower, homestead-tender. She is a regular contributor to Edible San Juan Mountains, NPR “Earth Notes,” The Durango Herald and Mamalode. Her work has been published in Literary Mama, Mountain Gazette, Inside/Outside Southwest, Rhythm of the Home, Bugle Magazine, Traditional Bowhunter, Joy Magazine, The Durango Telegraph, and in the book “A New Plateau,” and more. She writes a biweekly column on parenting in the Durango Herald, blogs at 6512 and Growing and also teaches writing classes.

I have had the pleasure of communicating with Caroline Starr Rose via blog comments and e-mail exchanges for several years, but to finally get to speak with her was a dream come true.

Caroline’s first novel, May B., which is written in gorgeous flowing verse, was released last month and in this episode of Behind the Blog Caroline and I talk writing, mothering, perseverance and following our dreams — and much, much more!

This show was recorded in January, 2012 and is just over 40 minutes long.

As a girl, she danced ballet, raced through books by Laura Ingalls Wilder, and put on magic shows in a homemade cape. She has taught social studies and English, and worked to instill in her students a passion for books, an enthusiasm for experimenting with words, and a curiosity about the past.

She lives in New Mexico with her husband and two sons.
