The rest of the weekend was somewhat uneventful. Saturday night we had some awesome friends over (Chris and Katy!) and watched the rifftrax for “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.” I also made some delicious Potato, Onion and Goat Cheese pizza (from basically scratch!) thanks to a great recommendation from Amy (of Amybites fame). She mentioned the recipe on twitter and just the sound of it made me want to try it. She was right, I should’ve made two - they were eaten right away! A lot of fun to make, here’s the recipe if you’re interested.

I also got some fan art last week from Rembrand Le Compte of Beardfluff!

I still have a few limited edition Gocco prints left, along with comics and buttons at the ol’ store.

I hope everyone had a happy Halloween! I ended up going to a “Haunted” hayride with friends. It was cheesy good fun, although the hayride didn’t let you wear costumes, which, on Halloween night, seemed somewhat ridiculous to ask. Luckily, Shannon and I went as “Christmas Carolers,” so not only were we allowed in without a problem, but we were also quite toasty on the otherwise cool night. Also we sang some Christmas favorites! Pictures when I receive them from friends.

We then headed to our friend Joe and Torlin’s house to watch “Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon” which was a pretty good movie. It was kind of a low-budget mockumentary about slasher films and a man trying to become the next Jason. Being a film major, I recognized many of the terms thrown around (”Survivor girl” etc etc) so it felt like a regurgitation of a term paper, but otherwise it was pretty clever.

In non-Halloween news, I have received so much awesome fan art and I really wanted to show it to you guys! Click on them to see the fullsize over at the Eros Inc. facebook page.

Erin Milligan of Timothy Green threw me this (along with giving me a hand drawn guest art at APE I have yet to scan). It was awful kind of her.

Paul Abbamondi of Supertown was kind enough to draw everyone’s favorite Czech man.

Jim Gibbons (the owner of a limited edition Gocco Print) was not only kind enough to gush about the comic on his blog, but also to make this great Charlie Brown-eske Tomas art!

Finally, the extremely talented Yuko Ota threw me not one, but two hilarious versions of Tomas:

Strongman Tomas cracks me up more than it should.

Thank you all so much you guys for taking the time to throw me this guest art! I’m so dang flattered by it.

See you on Wednesday!

Chapter Thirteen ends on Friday! I’m very excited.

We’ve been catching up on Dexter lately, man this is a good season. A little slow at first, but the most recent episode has picked the show up!

I’m very exhausted, our cat Dodger had to be brought into the Animal Hospital last night for a quick check-up last night. Turns out his bandage was a little too tight, so they drugged him up good and re-applied it. It was an exhausting night to be sure, but he’s healing! Hooray!

Yesterday was my friend Brian Carroll’s birthday! He’s twenty-five and we’ve been awesome friends since high school. You should check out his work! He’s a very talented dude.

So here we are, comic #200. Seriously, I wanted to thank all of you for your support. Telling this story is what drives me to update the comic, but your emails, comments, tweets and readership keep me going even when I’m feeling my creative lows. I really appreciate it you guys.

Also, there are only nine GOCCO prints left of the following image:

Head on over to the Eros Inc. store to check it out! There are also printed volumes of Eros Inc., buttons and prints available.

The weekend was very low-key compared to APE. We got together with friends and watched a cheesy sci-fi film (which I may or may not have a writing credit on), and saw “Where the Wild Things Are.” I did not like the latter, unfortunately. I thought the film was well shot and captured a great tone, but I hated Max.

Thank you guys again for reading. See you on Wednesday!

Okay, so I kept saying I’d talk about APE but I kept holding off, mostly because of how exhausted I’ve been. But I’m wide awake now, so here goes.

APE officially began with Nan Lawson (my table and lifemate) running to the airport. We surfed the traffic and arrived with just enough time to stuff airport pizza into our mouths. We originally brought two carry-ons; one with our clothing and the other with our inventory, plus a large cardboard “Wallace” to sit on our table. Ironically, the clothing bag was too heavy, so we had to check it. I grabbed Wallace and held him while we made our way to our seats. Like a baby.

By the time we were in the air and able to use our electronics, we were forced to put them away and prepare for landing. We stayed at a place called “Citigarden,” which was basically a nice motel. We were ready for bed as soon as we hit the room, but hit our first snag. Y’see, we regularly fall asleep to “Simpsons” dvds, so we needed something good to fall asleep to. Unfortunately we only got four channels, all sports. We eventually passed out to the sound of the X-games. Man those guys can BMX!

We awoke the next morning and took a shuttle to the BART, our first experience with public transportation. We have such transport in Los Angeles, but I hate using it, mostly because it a) doesn’t take me where I want to go and b) takes forever to take me where I don’t want to go. But I was easily impressed with BART. We arrived at the Civic Center stop and walked the fourteen minutes to where APE was being held, our clothing suitcases in tow.

We set up our table and the convention started! I pissed Nan off because we didn’t pack her small prints, so that wasn’t the best way to start. Sorry Nan! We first met up with Joenis Norac (of Unconscious Ink and his new comic, Ahedonia Blue) and his lovely girlfriend, both we’ve met before and hung out with a few times. I also had the chance to meet Ali Showkati of Spaghetti Strap Western and Phillipa Rice of My Cardboard Life. Very nice talented folks! Erin of Timothy Green stopped by the table and actually gave me fan art! I still have to scan it in. Thanks again Erin!

Thank you so much to all the fans who made their way to the table to say hi! I totally appreciated talking to you guys and hearing your support first hand. It was definitely the highlight of APE.

I also had the chance to talk to Seqalab’s Kevin Burkhalter of Kevin’s Journal Comic and Jarrett Williams of Lunarboy Land. We talked about the podcast, their comics, their must-reads and other such topics. Really awesome guys.

Meredith Gran of Octopus Pie came over to say hi later in the day and we talked about techniques for a while. She convinced me to graduate to grown-up inks and brushes. I know what I’m getting this weekend!

I also had the chance to meet and talk to Joey and Emily of A Softer World (who kept me laughing, I was sitting next to them most of the convention), Kate Beaton of Hark A Vagrant (http://www.harkavagrant.com/), a very classy lady and welcoming lady, All the folks over at Lovesick Robot Press (whom I tried to hang out with that evening, but it didn’t work out )Dylan Meconis of Family Man, who was super dee-ooper friendly, Erika Moen of DAR, who was also very friendly and full of energy and finally Spike of Templar AZ who was extremely kind and so dang talented.

I also had the chance to talk to Jeff Smith, who is one of my idols/influences. Him checking out (and complimenting) my sketchbook made my weekend.

So that’s more or less APE! Everyone - creator and fan alike - was incredibly friendly and open, welcoming and complimentary. I was addicted to the experience and it shall not be my last.

See you guys on Monday! COMIC 200!
