Run in the November Rain

It rained in DC yesterday; in November. And not even the beginning of November: It rained on the 19th day of the month! I doubt I'll get used to rain that late in the year. In North Dakota we were lucky if we saw sleet in November instead of inches of snow. I really like to run in the rain, and so I just couldn't help myself yesterday. It wasn't raining all that hard, so I brought my camera. A couple of these picture might have some fog or water droplets in them, but here they are anyway:

Lifter Puller and The Hold Steady

I've been listening to Lifter Puller and their descendant The Hold Steady almost constantly for the past two weeks. I think I like them because they sing about Minneapolis and are Twins fans. Well that's not completely true: I really like their style of music as well. Whatever the reason, I haven't felt like listening to anything else recently which is a great departure from my usual "shuffle all music" habits.

The Hold Steady were actually in Fargo a couple of weeks ago. My brother went and said the concert was awesome. He also really enjoyed the opener Two Cow Garage, I need to check them out. I missed the Hold Steady when they played in DC in August, but I won't make that mistake again.

Gloomy October in DC

The weather here in DC this week has not been great. The sky has been overcast, and its been raining for what seems like days on end. But then again its been snowing in Fargo and much of the midwest already this year, so I shouldn't complain. Speaking of Fargo, I guess The Hold Steady will be playing the Fargo Theater this weekend. Seriously. Great concert at an interesting venue for the low low price of $16. If you're in Fargo you have no excuse not to go to this show. It's not like you can enjoy the nice fall weather anymore. Man, I wish The Hold Steady would come and play in DC. Crap. I was just checking out their show schedule and they played the 930 Club in August, how did I miss that? Oh well, I'll catch them next time they're coming through. Here is my random 10 for Friday October, 16th 2009:

B!R!: Bullet Impact Video

Giving a new meaning to the Boom! React! category: Super slow videos like this amaze me. I really enjoy watching the super slow replays of sporting events that are now becoming common, but these bullet impacts take the technology to the next level. I wonder what else would be cool to see with this type of camera? I don't think I saw two bullets hit each other in the video. Also, I think I'd like to see crashes or explosions. And of course I want to see sports being played at this speed. Well, not for a whole game, that would take forever. Thanks for @kenny for sharing this video in his Google Reader.

It seems like this is the only type of post I ever have time to do anymore. But because of time commitments it will have to do for now. I like the Killers and "When You Were Young" is my second favorite Guitar Hero song to play after Rise Against's "Prayer of the Refugee". I wish "Girl's Not Grey" was on the Guitar Hero games that I own. I'm going to have to look into what AFI songs are available besides "Miss Murder". Throwing Copper is a terrific album, and the The Vines were not the second coming of the Beatles but were also not the second coming of The Sundown Playboys either. Two country songs made the cut this week too. The first concert I ever went to was Alabama at the Red River Valley Fair in Fargo, ND. It was awesome even before the laser light show after their set. Photos: Fourth of July 1 at Nats Park

The best way to enjoy the Fourth of July here in Washington DC? A baseball game at National Park, a BBQ with friends, and finally Fireworks on the National Mall. I’ve got some pictures from the baseball game and fireworks to share, but I’ll start where the day started the baseball game in this post including a picture of Abe Lincoln up close and personal. The Baseball Game:

Walking into the park it appeared that there would be a lot of fans at the game. The Nationals were playing the Atlanta Braves so there were tons of Braves fans here in DC for the game. Once we actually got into the game there the ball park was probably 60% full, which is high for a team on pace for 100+ losses. There are a lot more pictures after the jump.

Blackberry Wordpress Application

The Wordpress team has released a beta application for blackberry phones. I'm posting from that application right now and I must say that I'm impressed.
