As machine productivity rises, at some point all jobs will be leisure jobs in this fourth sense. Baumol's Cost Disease be damned. The surplus earnings from those leisure jobs would pay for all the traditional goods and services provided by agriculture, mining, construction and manufacturing along with a host of others. It's high time we thought more about demand side economics again.

I just started reading this book, and was so thrown by the absurd numbers in the first chapter that I have spent the last hour frantically searching online for some reference to it. I am not a scientist nor an economist, but I understand enough to know that a global temperature change of 33-38 degrees F is _huge_! So I wanted some confirmation that the author was not completely wrong about such a basic fact, since if he were it would render everything else he wrote suspect at best. You have reassured me that it is worth continuing to read the book.

I enjoy the dialogue between my sandwich brother and the anonymous Chinese academic. I feel that the Chinese academic's viewpoint is stalwartly supportive of his government, its leader Chairman Xi, and the CCP. Fair enough. Yet Anonymous has chosen to remain anonymous for all these many years. For me , this raises (not begs) the question: Why does "Anne" choose to remain "Anne"? Is academic freedom in China still stifled? Even for someone who seems loyal to the CCP?
