It’s true that many of our writer/editor positions require a solid background in GIS because they are responsible for authoring technical articles, user documentation, course content, etc. However that’s not always the case.

The Technical Editor position in our Educational Services Division is one example. We’re looking for someone with at least one year of technical editing or technical writing experience and is an expert at spelling, grammar, and punctuation rules. This person will be working closely with our Educational Specialists and other staff to design, create, and edit educational content used by our customers. They’ll also use their editing skills to help polish up content for marketing materials and Web pages.

“Other qualities we’re looking for are great collaboration and relationship-building skills,” says Sandra, the recruiter for this position. “Because the Technical Editor position is driven by ongoing deadlines, it’s also critical that the individual selected has the ability to prioritize projects and manage their time effectively,” she added.

And if you do have knowledge of GIS, even better.
