Malaysian church fire-boomed ahead of Muslim protests.

Two Malaysian churches have been attacked, leaving one badly damaged, in an escalating dispute over the use of the word "Allah" by non-Muslims.

As Muslim groups prepared to hold protests Friday, police stepped up security around churches nationwide after one in suburban Kuala Lumpur was fire-bombed in a midnight attack that gutted its ground floor and another had its grounds set ablaze.

"We are investigating the matter thoroughly and those responsible will be brought to book," police chief Musa Hassan told reporters.

"Police will deploy patrol cars to patrol churches in the country. We will investigate the matter thoroughly."

A fire department official said all stations were on alert for more blazes at religious buildings, amid conflict over the use of "Allah" as a translation for "God" by Christians.

Pribumi Perkasa, one of the groups organising the demonstrations to be held after Friday prayers, condemned the attacks but warned that Muslim Malays, who dominate the population, were deeply concerned.

"We will continue to voice our feelings in protests today because you cannot stop the outflow of feelings on this issue," the group's president, Ibrahim Ali, told AFP.

"I think it may have been because of restricting Muslims from voicing their anger and fears that the church attacks took place. You must understand that if Muslims are unhappy, I'm sure there will be no peace in this country."

The High Court last week ruled in favour of the Catholic "Herald" newspaper which has used "Allah" as a translation for "God" in its Malay-language section. The government has said the word should be used only by Muslims.

The ruling was suspended on Wednesday pending an appeal, after the government argued the decision could cause racial conflict in Malaysia, where Malays make up 60 percent of the population.

The ground floor of the three-storey Metro Tabernacle church, part of the Assemblies of God movement, was destroyed in the attack.

"Witnesses saw four people smash the glass and throw incendiaries into the church building. They came on two motorcycles," church leader Peter Yeow told AFP, warning other churches to "double their guard" against any attacks.

There were no casualties in the attack on the church, which occupies the corner lot of a row of shop houses and which Yeow said draws some 1,500 people weekly.

Several hours later, the Catholic Church of the Assumption in Kuala Lumpur's southwest was targeted, parish priest Philip Muthu said.

"I was awoken by men riding on motorcycles who threw a kerosene bomb into the church compound," he told AFP.

"The bomb lit a fire and damaged part of the compound but it did not burn down the church building," Muthu added. "I don't know why they are doing this but this is worrying."

Authorities at the nearby Saint Francis Xavier church said they were taking security precautions after receiving warnings that a protest would be staged outside the building.

Anuar Harun, who headed the fire department operation at the Metro Tabernacle, said that forensic experts were working with the police and a canine unit to probe the blaze.

"We have asked all our fire stations to be on alert for such fires on religious premises," he told AFP.

Religion and language are sensitive issues in multiracial Malaysia, which experienced deadly race riots in 1969.

The row over the use of "Allah" is among a string of religious disputes that have erupted in recent years, straining relations between Malays and minority ethnic Chinese and Indians who fear the country is being "Islamised."

More than half of Malaysia's Catholics are from indigenous groups, most of whom live in the Borneo island states and who mainly speak Malay.

My advice (mostly to myself) is:

Live life, no regrets.

Everyone's idea of happiness is different. Pursue your own happiness and not what others say it should be.

Never let anyone push you around. Stand up for yourself and don't back down. Know your rights and always be prepared.

Never forget the times your family took care, support and encourage you. Never forget the times your friends stand up for you. Never forget the time your enemies hurt you. Never forget what life thought you. Learn from all of them and be wiser. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

TAKE the road not taken. Challenge yourself and pursue your dreams.

When you come across a listing that looks promising, add ".com" to the seller's ID to see if he has his own website offering a lower price. Another option is EveryPlaceISell.com where you can track merchants and find all the sites that list their wares.

I always have 2 clocks with me all the time. The first is my watch which is a birthday gift from my dad. I never took it out (unless forced or needed) since I got it last 2 years. I even wear it to sleep or in the bathroom. For the watch, I keyed it 5 minutes after the actual local time because that's the same time as WMU Catering's clock in time (and also so that I would not be late for any other appointments -.-)

The second is my Blackberry mobile phone. The time is 5 minutes before the actual local time. I keyed it that way so that I would always know exactly the time that Metro bus would stop by my area (although the bus may come later than usual because of the snow).

My appointments are all keyed in to my phone and a reminder would be set about 1hour before. I swear I would not be a happy girl if at any circumstances I lost my phone or if it falls apart on me.

I'm eating my favorite cereal with milk and a cup of 'teh tarik' watching American Greed: HealthSouth now. I've another 1 hour and 30 minutes before I have to leave for work. I'm glad that I have a ride to work so that I don't need to wait for the bus in the cold weather. It was snowing for the past 3 days but stopped today (thank god!) My first and second exam is in 2 days (14 Dec), third exam is on the day after (which is my birthday) and last exam on 17th December which is also the day which I would be holding a birthday party at my place :)

Reason for not updating this website as often as before: I have a life now. BUT, I would still try to update more often when I have the time.

Apple Picking and Corn Maze

Went with IPC and CELCIS to Gull Meadow Farms today. It was a great experience! Met new people, had a great time eating all the apples I want and getting lost in the corn maze.

The day was yesterday,

Nothing special about it save the fact that we had especially nasty weather during the day. I had worked in the morning as Esther was home. I had been concerned, looking out the small window in the restaurant utility room I saw the rain begin to harden and thought once or twice of tornado warnings spent in the basement of my home as a child. This is the season for them and the weather was favorable at the time. Tornadoes are not common around this part of Michigan but one occurred last year that I narrowly escaped and I did not think Esther would know to check the television. Luckily nothing but heavy rain and scattered thunder hit and the precipitation actually managed to cool the day considerably. Though humid and a bit muggy, it was very pleasant to walk through the parking lot after work under the cover of towering thunderclouds, back lit by the peaking sun.

Esther and I left early for the movie. We ate pizza at Roma's Pizza and got a deal on a large pizza with bread sticks. We were so full on just the bread that we had to "tapau". Driving to the theater we noticed the wall of the storm passing overhead. We parked in a lot where to the left was the storm stretching on with shades of gray and spots of lightning, and to the right was a yellow and orange sunburst behind the billowy clouds that trailed the storm. We took pictures. The sight was dynamic and constantly changing, this and the scale of the whole scene made impossible to properly capture the picture. Never the less some of them came out quite nice. I like Michigan for these kind of things. Maybe sometimes you can't walk out the door of your house because you may freeze or burn. Sometimes you can't drive because the snow is so tall on the road and other times it's because the rain and wind will push you off the road. I'll take those things because with every terrible thing follow small wondrous ones.

A Simple Gesture

It's amazing how a simple gesture of just being nice makes the person day seem brighter.

Today's just one of those boring days in my life where I wake up with not much inspiration to do much. Work schedule changed, so working on Tues and Fridays now leaving the weekend with nothing to do. Talked to my parents for a bit and folded the laundry before going to the saloon to dye my hair violet-red but ended up with red hair (very little purple). The hair stylist explain that it's coz of my very dark hair that absorbs more red than violet. Damnit! Anyway, I called up a couple of my friends to have lunch but they were all not free so I end up eating maggie mee with 2 eggs which I later did not even finish. Feeling bored, I chatted with some people back in Malaysia and this came along....

I've been thinking about it a lot lately but I just cannot decide if I want to highlight my hair red or just colour it dark blue or dark purple. There is a promotion going on this month where it cost only USD40-50 to colour my long hair at a salon nearby which I find encouraging to my decision of colouring my hair. Then again, which colour? I have 3 colours in mind, dark blue, dark purple or any shade of red that suits me. Btw, I heard that red colour doesn't stay long on the hair as compared to other colours.
