Together they take 65.5 years of dedication and service to ESU 11 and our area school districts as they set off on a new venture. The entire staff and board took the opportunity at our end of the year staff luncheon/meeting to wish Linda and Tim a very fond ‘Farewell and Best Wishes’ as they start a new schedule—a “retirement” schedule.

In March, the Bertrand Community School Family Health Class got an eye opening experience in newborn care with the help of ESU #11’s RealCare babies. The RealCare babies make it possible to practice caring for a newborn infant. After reading about newborn care and researching different related topics online, the group practiced with the RealCare babies in the classroom. The students also practiced installing an infant seat in the vehicle and demonstrated diapering. So, with some nervousness and excitement it was time to take home a newborn! The Real Care babies will cry throughout the day and night, and the caregiver determines whether the baby needs fed, diapered, rocked or burped. There is a wireless ID to assure accountability. The baby’s computer tracks its care and safe handling. The students took the babies home after school and returned them the next morning. All in all, the students came back short on sleep and surprised how much time and effort went into taking care of a newborn. It was a very enriching and valuable experience!
