Some things that I have compiled I have tested out on Squidoo.com, such as on the subject of compass reading and map navigation. Check out this video for a nifty little recipe along this here theme...

If you wish to keep these packaged in biodegradable wrappers, consider oiled brown paper bag paper. These can be burned in camp fires without creating any toxic ash as plastic or quasi-plastic wrappers can do. Remember to value your environment and care for it as you would care for your children - because that's who will inherit the world as you leave it for them!

- Falls-Down-Laughing ^_^
Blackfoot/Mohawk-Cree

Using Your Watch as a Compass....

You've probably heard there is a way to use your watch as a compass, but do you know how it's done? Watch this video....

This vibrantly peppy old chap seems to be happily on his merry way with his map and compass - let's hope he gets where he's going without getting lost haha! Actually, this very simply put video has tossed in a bunch of potentially complicated details into one tiny simple lesson. Finding your bearing, using a map, adjusting for magnetic declination, and so on. I'll post some more on this subject fairly soon here.

The Recovery Position....

Here's a bit of First-Aid knowhow that's important to know if you find a fellow camp mate (or anyone in any situation) who is unconscious....

This prevents vomiting (should it happen) from being breathed in by the fallen person, and also checks circulation. Well, this here video has something to say about that - so do I, after the video - let's watch....

One major thing that many "remedy experts" forget to mention is one really good way to *satisfy* the itch, instead of just abstaining from scratching. You can "scratch" your itch, and dry out the spores (or whatever they are) of the poison ivy by doing this one little thing; take a hair dryer on high, blowing hot air, and bring it close to the affected area - heat it up until it ALMOST hurts (but not quite), so you get a little stingy sensation which satisfies the itch - this also dries out the poison ivy, killing it off a bit, and preventing it from spreading further. Cool, huh?

Basic Tips on Gathering Firewood....

Now, this here might seem common knowledge, but you'd be surprised how many "dumb-up" on site when it comes time to build a proper campfire - after the video, I've got more to say, so for now, let's give this here video a looksy....

Now, as was stated in a previous post on this matter, Ash and Beech wood is best, as you get quite a lot more burn and efficient heat, which translates into more cook time and warmth, than with most other woods. Failing to find either of these two will require you to gather about four times as much wood for the same burn. Just a little tip from me to you.

Splitting Wood the Easy Way....

Out of firewood? Need to split some wood for your wood burning stove? Here's an easy way to do it - observe....

Now that's the way to do it - simple, not complex at all, and does the trick right good! It's often the simple things that make all the differences in life, don'tcha think?

Survival Stove in a Can....

Okay all you McGuyver fans out there, this here's the official dealy - this is one of the two most perfect types of the most basic form if this kind of DIY cookstove, the other was previously posted using a Coca-Cola can. Watch these very simple and basic instructions on this here video....

Now there's just one more thing to mention on this here model - it's often called a "penny stove" - why? Well, it's not very visible in this video while it's in operation, but you gotta put a penny (or whatever coin type) over the filling port in the center to prevent any "back-blast" while it burns. This also acts as a safety valve, putting everything out when it is removed, if made correctly. So don't forget the penny, folks! Enjoy!

Winter Camping Tips....

Here are some very important bits of information to keep in mind when out on a winter camping trip....

Keep these points clear in mind when camping in the wintertime, or in any season.
