Intel to Release 5G Laptops in 2019

With the coming of the 5G technology, Intel is preparing our computers for this upcoming telecommunication breakthrough. It has partnered with Microsoft, Dell, HP and Lenovo, they are planning to bring Windows laptops with 5G connectivity through their XMM 800 series commercial 5G modems. And these laptops are expected to be release next year so get ready.

This news came out just after Qualcomm announced the list of carriers for the ARM-powered Windows 10 Always Connected PCs. At the MWC 2018 which is just around the corner, Intel will give a glimpse of the first 5G-connected Windows PC. But their 2-in-1 detachable concept, featuring an early 5G modem, would source its power from 8th Gen Intel Core i5 CPUs.

The 5G standard is designed to take our wireless connectivity experience to another level, exploring possibilities that are unheard in the current scenario. For instance, it could be used to provide an untethered VR experience on the go or let users download a 250MB file in seconds in a parking lot.

What 5G can do will be visible when it arrives in the real world. The hype was built in the case of the existing 4G LTE as well, which offers a theoretical download speed of 100 Mbps. But most of the networks around the world struggle to touch even 50 Mbps. According to a recent report by OpenSignal, countries like India have average 4G LTE speeds of just 6 Mbps.

In addition to their 5G dream, Intel will also showcase the first prototype laptop featuring an 802.11ax WiFi capabilities. Last month at CES, Asus announced their new 802.11ax WiFi router RT-AX88U with support for speeds up to 6Gbps.

The company will also demonstrate the eSIM functionality which is already supported by their enterprise and consumer PC modems released since September 2017.

It pays to protect yourself when shopping online to avoid getting more than you bargained for.

With high-profile data breaches potentially affecting millions of people, here are some card-specific tips to keep in mind when virtually swiping your plastic.

THE BASICS

Use a credit card. Debit cards often don't have the same level of fraud prevention and protection
Only enter details on secure sites. Look for an https connection and valid security certificates
Don't send credit card details over email or social media
Keep your antivirus software and browsers up to date
Avoid clicking through on deal links from emails as it may be a phishing attempt

Watch statements for any unusual transactions

While many banks have sophisticated 24/7 monitoring systems designed to detect fraud and unauthorised credit card use, it's important to keep an eye on your financial statements. If you spot anything suspicious, call your bank immediately.

Check your browser settings

Turn off your browser's autocomplete settings to avoid it storing your credit card number or personal information.

Make sure to use a separate password for every account you make with an online retailer. A password manager is the easiest way to generate and store unique passwords across sites.

It might sound obvious, but don't type your details out in public view where people can see your screen. Also, avoid connecting to public WIFI networks if you're shopping on a mobile device and use your cellular data instead.

Be on the lookout for fake apps

Not every app is legitimate, especially when it comes to retail apps. Double-check before downloading to make sure it's from the real merchant. A lack of reviews on the app store, typos in the description or app itself could be red flags. Apps that ask for you to grant excessive permissions, paid apps, or those that ask for your credit card details immediately are also warning signs.

Vodafone Uganda May be leaving Very Soon [But Why?]

Well,AFRIMAX "the holders of VODAFONE franchise in Uganda" are now officially under receivership according to a statement issued by the appointed receiver,Donald Nyakairu.
NOTE:Being under receivership calls for a look at the assets and liabilities to try and work out how the company can turn around and if it can't,be liquidated!!!!!
However, the company promises that in no time a fresh lease of life form a new investor or a group of financiers.
IN TROUBLE: Vodafone is infact the leading Internet Service Provider in the country. Customers being treated to a number of 4G data packages appear to be the most hit,with company's advice to drop to 3G or seek compensation of prepaid data.
INDEBTED:it is really a challenge for Vodafone, for it owes Eaton Towers(a telecom tower company that leases telecom infrastructure to mobile network operators),about $250,000,if converted ,about Shs902m.
No wonder the poor signals,and interruptions in services Eaton Towers was compelled to switch off some of the network sites,after having failed to clear the outstanding bills.

Spectators at the Pyeongchang Olympics aren't just getting to watch the ultimate showdown in winter sports. They're also witnessing the most high-tech Olympic Games in history.

Major companies like Samsung and Intel are showing off their technology, including self-driving cars, virtual-reality viewing stations and super-fast video streaming.

At the helm of it all is 5G, the wireless network technology that mobile carriers around the world have been racing to adopt.

You may just be getting 4G on your phone, but the wireless industry is already looking ahead to 5G.

In a few years, you may be able to download a full-length HD movie to your phone in a matter of seconds rather than minutes. And video chats will be so immersive that it will feel like you can reach out and touch the other person right through the screen

Significantly faster data speeds: Currently, 4G networks are capable of achieving peak download speeds of one gigabit per second, though in practice it’s never that fast

How Much is 5G going to Cost me?

Both Huawei and Nokia agreed that 5G can’t cost too much more than what consumers are paying now for 4G; otherwise, no one’s going to adopt the technology. But it’s really too early to say how much 5G devices and services will cost.

When Will we Get 5G?

Again, it’s too soon to say for sure, but don’t count on it in the next couple of years. The most optimistic targets would see the first commercial network up and running by 2020, but even that may be too optimistic. As with LTE, it will take years for the network to become widespread.

Hopefully our mobile carriers will adopt to this service with immediate action

Wikipedia ends data-free access for Uganda

It was an altruistic mission: Offer free access to Wikipedia for people in developing countries, without requiring mobile data to access information.

But the Wikimedia Foundation has announced it will wrap up its Wikipedia ZERO program this year, ending partnerships with 97 mobile carriers in 72 countries who waived data fees to access the online encyclopedia.

This program has been moving on smoothly for the last six years.In Uganda,the partnership was with ORANGE UGANDA though it finally withdrew its services in the country but no other well known mobile carriers offered this service.

Reason: the Wikimedia Foundation says increasing data costs, a "rapidly shifting" mobile industry and "low awareness" of Wikipedia outside America and Europe had seen a drop off in the program.

Google Bulletin Transforms Anyone Into A News Reporter

Have you ever dreamed of becoming a journalist? But you realized that the process is too long and complicated and you dropped out of that dream. Well you might want to hold on to your dream, because Google has made a great platform for you that will make that dream come true easily.

The search giant has a new platform called the Bulleting that focuses on the idea of citizen journalism.

Bulletin is Google’s effort to amplify their news service, and scoop more data, by including hyperlocal content from neighborhoods and provide more relevant stories to their audience. So, naturally, their platform has to be people-powered, unless they are willing to hire numerous reporters.

Here is how this works, the citizen journalist will be using their smartphone or computer for that matter and will be posting image , videos, and text and share them using the platform’s app. The aim is to maintain something sort of a live blog where they can’t update information in real-time and also have access to analytics data to know the count and demographics of their readership.

These stories will be publically accessible on Google Search and shared on social media platforms and instant messaging apps via links.

But the concern still lies on the authenticity of the content being added to the platform

Top 10 Best Gadgets on the CES 2018

CES is the world's gathering place for all those who thrive on the business of consumer technologies. It has served as the proving ground for innovators and breakthrough technologies for 50 years the global stage where next-generation innovations are introduced to the marketplace. Owned and produced by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA), it attracts the world's business leaders and pioneering thinkers.

Below we've gathered our favorite 21 new products and technologies from the show. Although not all of them are guaranteed to hit the market this year, but it worth knowing the best.

Acer Swift 7

This beautiful notebook is the Acer Swift 7, it’s a really thin notebook probably the world’s thinnest notebook so far. It measures just 0.39-inch thick and weighs 2.48 pounds. It has an Intel Core i7 processor, and 4G LTE connectivity. This is a really success as far as Acer is concerned.

Dell XPS 15 2-in-1

This big-screen laptop has a 360-degree hinge, so it folds all the way back to form a tablet Inside, it has a new CPU package that's part of Intel's eighth generation of Core i-series chips. But this is also a hybrid part. It's one of the very first examples we've seen of a new Intel-AMD partnership, where these two component rivals are teaming up.

This means you get an Intel CPU paired with AMD Radeon Vega M GPU, giving you some pretty decent graphics muscle for a super-slim hybrid.

With these new parts, plus better cooling and a bigger heat spreader, Dell claims the battery will run for 15 hours.

It's 16mm thick, which is pretty thin for any kind of 15-inch laptop, and the edge-to-edge Infinity Display has 4K resolution.

It also has a new design of keyboard Dell calls it a "maglev" keyboard. So it design in a way that Instead of rubber domes under the keys, it uses magnets to push the keycaps back up.

The new XPS 15 two-in-one will be available in the spring, and starts at $1,299 in the US. International details have not been announced yet, but that works out to about £960 or AU$1,650.

Lenovo Miix 630

The Lenovo Miix 630 is detachable tablet with a 12.3 inch full HD touch screen that’s fortified with a corning Gorilla Glass. It’s running on a power-sipping Qualcomm Snapdragon processors which was originally designed for smartphones. You can detach the keyboard from the tablet and just remain with the tablet itself. There's a kickstand built into the back of the tablet to prop it up when the keyboard is attached. The whole tablet weighs less than 3 pounds. According to Lenovo the Miix 630 will last up to 20 hours between the battery charges. With the a starting price of $799 the Lenovo Mixx 630 will go on sale in the coming months.

Price: The Miix 630 has a starting price of $800. Lenovo had no details on pricing for higher-end SKUs.

RAM: 4GB or 8GB

Storage: 64GB, 128GB, or 256GB

Graphics: Qualcomm Adreno 540 (integrated)

Display: 12.3-inch WUXGA+ (1920x1280) with Corning Glass

Pen: Included, with 1,024 levels of pressure sensitivity (a bit primitive) and a handy storage loop on the right side of the keyboard

Cameras: 5MP front, 13MP rear

Battery life: Up to 20 hours on a 48Wh battery

Weight: 2.93 pounds

Dimensions: 11.5 x 8.2 x 0.6 inches

Digital Storm Spark

Digital Storm Spark it’s a gamming pc with a small stature compare to other gamming PCs I have seen. It's only 12 inches tall and 4 inches wide, yet filled with enthusiast-level components as well as custom liquid-cooling piping. You can start a build at $1,299 with an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060, but the same tiny body can handle up to a GTX 1080 and an Intel Core i7-8700K processor. It's an impressive feat of engineering, and the black aluminum body, interior window, and customizable lighting look

The Wall by Samsung

Samsung’s The Wall is a 146-inch modular TV with MicroLED technology delivers incredible definition, without restrictions to size, resolution or form. It is a self-emitting TV with micrometer (µm) scale LEDs – which are much smaller than current LEDs, and serve as their own source of light.

The MicroLED technology featured in The Wall eliminates the need for color filters or backlight, yet allows the screen to offer consumers the ultimate viewing experience. Also, the MicroLED screen excels in durability and effectiveness, including luminous efficiency, the light source lifetime and power consumption, setting the standard for future screen technology.

Featuring a module-based, bezel-less design, The Wall also exemplifies how consumers can customize their television sizes and shapes to suit their needs. The screen can adapt to serve different purposes, such as creating a wall-size display for multiple spaces.

Razer Project Linda

Razer's 2018 concept prototype is Project Linda, a laptop that's powered by a phone. Here, the Razer Phone gives the laptop shell its processing power, a touchpad and a second screen.

But the company has the habit of showing amazing products that never make it to the market so you shouldn’t hope to see this on the market anytime soon

Acer Nitro 5

The Acer Nitro 5, a 15.6-inch laptop powered by an AMD Radeon RX560 GPU and an AMD Ryzen processor, starts at $799 (that roughly converts to £590 and AU$1,020). For that reasonable price, you'll also get a sizeable 512 SSD hard drive and 32GB of RAM. The laptop will be release in may this year

HP Spectre x360

HP's latest Spectre x360 is a laptop for both creatives and business types. The 15.6-inch 2-in-1 houses a quad-core 8th-gen Intel CPU and your choice of either Radeon RX Vega M or Nvidia GeForce MX150 graphics, and it comes with a HP Tilt Pen stylus to take advantage of that 4K touchscreen.

Lenovo Smart Display

Google Assistant wants to outsmart Amazon Alexa, and you'll be finding it in more devices in 2018. One such device is Lenovo's $200 Smart Display. Like an Echo or Google Home smart speaker, you can use voice commands to tell the display to search the web, play music, control your smart home and more.

The $200 model is 8 inches, and there's another 10-inch model for $250 (those prices roughly convert to £150, AU$250 and £185, AU$320). Both go on sale in summer.

Lenovo Mirage Solo

All I can say about Lenovo Mirage Solo is that it’s it the future of mobile virtual reality. Lenovo's Mirage Solo pumps new life into Google's Daydream platform by freeing it from the phone. It's an entirely liberated VR headset, in fact: With no wires and six degrees of freedom, it promises VR experiences you can run, jump, and walk through without worrying about tripping over wires. It's far less kludgey to use than dropping your phone into a headset, and uses a superior processor to the upcoming Oculus Go.

As the Intel bug still leaves many user in fear of being affected, Intel promised earlier this month to fix around 90% of the 5 year old machines affected within the coming days.

But the fixes aren’t going as smooth as the silicon giant might have expected. The patches are increasing the problems for the user by leaving their computers with rebooting issues.

In a new post they have the silicon giant has advised users not to install security patches currently available for Meltdown and Spectre bugs until they figure out another solution to address the issue.

“We recommend that OEMs, cloud service providers, system manufacturers, software vendors and end users stop deployment of current versions, as they may introduce higher than expected reboots and other unpredictable system behavior,” wrote Intel’s executive VP Navin Shenoy.

Shenoy also said they had found the root cause for Broadwell and Haswell platforms. They will test an early version of the fix with their OEM partners over the weekend after which a final version of the security fix is to be released. They are also working on the security patches for ]]>other affected chips]]> based on Ivy Bridge, Sandy Bridge, Skylake, Kaby Lake architectures. The Meltdown and Spectre patches haven’t caused problems just for Intel.

A few days back, Microsoft’s had to halt patches for AMD-based systems after users’ machines went unbootable. Similar was the case when Canonical issued a fix for Ubuntu Linux this month.

Technology is running at the speed of light people, just in November 2017 SanDisk unveiled the highest microSD card with the size of 400GB .

And now Integral Memory unveils it 2018’s highest capacity microSD card 512GB microSDXC V10 UHS-I U1 card. As you know mobile devices are getting more smatter and so the need for more memory is increasing, so microSD card was designed to satisfy this need, here we are talking about devices like Android phones and tablets, Drones, Action cameras, DSLRs, Tablet PCs like the surface pro and so on.

Application such as games and other tools are getting bigger in size am talking GBs here , and so takes a lot of space on the device especially for mobile gamers they find themselves always trying to address this space issues, I think this will be their end of struggle .

This is isn’t just the highest microSD card, but also said to be capable of delivering a transfer speed of 80MB/s which sounds enough for devices recording 1080p and 4K videos out-of-the-box.

Integral memory’s 512GB microSD card will go on sale in February this year. The price tag for the storage media is currently unknown. But considering the fact that SanDisk’s 400GB microSD is selling at $250 on Amazon, the price of Integral Memory’s would be more than that.

Am currently using a 60GB surface pro and I have been struggling with space for so long and I think this might be a solution to the struggle

Are you excited about the iPhone X? Well you might want to hold on that, because Apple could retire the 2017’s flagship iPhone by this year’s summer if the sales don’t meet the expectations

According to KGI, iPhone X isn’t able to crunch sales numbers in China. The design could be the biggest factor. Despite the fact that iPhone X has a bigger screen than iPhone 8 and 8 plus, the notch gives users an illusion that they have less screen area to use. In fact, it’s not only China; iPhone X hasn’t performed as per expectations in other markets as well, according to a survey by the research firm Cowen.

However, even if iPhone X goes out of the picture someday, there would be three iPhone X-inspired models making their way in fall 2018, expects KGI. The new iPhones could possibly reduce the concerns about the notch taking the screen area.

KGI also predicts a 5% growth rate for Apple in the first half of 2018 when three top-of-the-line models (iPhone X, iPhones 8, iPhone 8 Plus) will be on sale at the same time. A 10% overall growth is expected near the end of 2018 as three new models will replace the vacating 10th anniversary iPhone.
