The countdown clock at the forecourt of Salzburg main station appears already like a relic from old days. The clock and some scattered flags remind of the huste and bustle in Salzburg during the UEFA EURO 2008 in Austria and Switzerland. Now the carriages are back at Residence Place where fans have been engrossed in the match in front of the video walls and the city of Salzburg prepares for the next cultural highlight of the year - the Salzburg Festival 2008.

Anyway for now the Host City Salzburg UEFA EURO 2008 Weblog will stay online and we are glad about every visitor who wants to wallow in memories. Spain celebrates deservedly its first title since 1964. The Spanish team dominated the final match of UEFA EURO 2008 and sent the Germans home at a result of 0:1. Torres could bring out the decision with his stroke in the 33rd minute of the game.

Spain rolls into final

The Spanish won deservedly against the Russians and roll into final. The Spanish convinced with a sovereign performance from their defensive unit through to the strikers.

Josef Hickersberger resigns

Josef Hickersberger has announced his resignation as national coach of the Austrian team.

The Austrian Football Association now has to appoint a new coach as fast as possible because the first qualification match for the FIFA World Cup 2010 already takes place September 6, 2008.

The Austrian broadcasting (ORF) would have suggested the following candidates:

Ivica Osim
Andreas Herzog
Kurt Jara
Volker Finke
Matthias Sammer
Walter Schachner
Zlatko Kranjcar

Hopefully those responsible will take the right decision…

EURO flea market & auction

June 29, 2008 from 4.30 p.m. until 5.45 p.m. all fans of UEFA EURO 2008 are invited to visit the EURO flea market & auction in the Host City Salzburg fan zone.

EURO flags, staff clothing, roll-ups, EURO posters, football scarfs, etc. will be sold at the flea market on Chapter Place.

The auction will take place after the flea market. There you can purchase by auction a flight from “Terra Reisen”, an autographed jersey, a table football, a 200 sqm EURO banner and so on…

Auction and flea market proceeds will go to a good case, the “Walk ‘n’ Roll” association who takes care of young disabled sportspeople.

“Lady Days”

On the days free of play, June 23 and June 24, the “Lady Days” will take place in the fan zone of the Host City Salzburg. The event starts always at 7 p.m. Sparkling wine for free for the ladies and cheapened beer for the gentlemen.

Additionally there will be shown the motion pictures “Kick it like Beckham” (June 23) and the German comedy “Wer früher stirbt, ist länger tod” (June 24).
