Join us at 6:00 PM, February 21, 2014, in celebrating the opening night of the 5th Annual Environmental Photography Exhibition at the Bradford Washburn American Mountaineering Museum. In addition to the exhibition, the public is invited to a free talk and reception. Complimentary drinks and appetizers will be served. Later films at the 8th annual Colorado Environmental Film Festival! will be screened at no charge. Donations are appreciated.

This year the exhibition will showcase three photographers. Each has a different style in bringing thought provoking attention to our environment. Marc Newton’s nonconventional “constructed Paradise' confronts the natural landscape in relation to human culture”. On the other hand, Kurt Jordan shoots in the traditional b&w way… as-it-is. Kurt describes his work as “the forms in these landscapes are a manifestation of the soul of our humanity”. While Denver’s local Evan Anderman exploits color and abstract patterns with aerial photography to emphasize “the subtle interactions between land and water and the intimate details that most people don't notice”.

Exhibition will be on view at the Museum through March 29, 2014.
__

At 6:15 PM Boyd Norton will talk about his efforts with the Serengeti ecosystem project and detail his strategies for using photography as a tool in conservation efforts. He is the founder of the North American Nature Photography Association, International League of Conservation Photographers and International League of Conservation Writers.

At 7PM, we will be showing the festival staff’s favorite films of the last seven years. After the screenings, there will be a party at Mountain Toad Brewery. Come rub shoulders with film makers, directors, photographers, and others who educate, care for and celebrate our planet!

Journey Through Landscape presents Con•Form•ation III: Feedlots, the final show in a three-part exhibition series of photographic work by Evan Anderman. The next reception will be held Friday, February 7 from 6-9pm.

Viewing a cattle feedlot from the air will make you instantly realize that it doesn’t belong. The vast expanse of unnaturally black ground sticks out on the horizon and cannot have a positive effect on the environment, the cows, or, ultimately, on us. Our obsession with having cheap, plentiful meat in this country is leaving its mark on the land. This final body of work provides a visual examination of the impact the cattle industry is having on the area and is the culmination of Anderman’s series on the Eastern Plains of Colorado.

The exhibition will be on view January 3 – February 28, 2014

Journey Through Landscape presents Con•Form•ation I: Energy, the second in a three-part exhibition series of photographic work by Evan Anderman.

Colorado is an energy rich state, both in fossil fuels as well as alternative energy such as wind and solar, yet exploitation of that energy remains a controversial issue. Expansion of these activities into the seemingly unpopulated Colorado plains seems like a good idea, yet they do have an impact. Pumpjacks, windmills, power lines, and pipelines all forever alter the subtle and sometimes fragile visual beauty of the region. This show explores the impacts that the energy industry has on the Colorado plains.
