Some of our friends here in Yangsan have organized a Christmas Party at the orphanage in the city for the last few years. They did it again this year, and we went along to help put the whole thing together! It was REALLY fun! The kids are all very awesome. There are kids as young as just a few years old, all the way to kids going in to college. We organized lots of activities, brought food and gifts, and just had fun. Check out the video!

We were fortunate enough to be able to attend an event at Hongbeopsa Temple in Busan a few days ago. Heongbapsa holds monthly events for foreigners in Korea to teach them about Korean culture. This particular event was something we were really interested in: kimchi making! That’s right, we got to learn how to prepare kimchi!

The event was held outdoors, since making kimchi requires a lot of space and can get fairly messy. It was really cold, but it was still a very awesome experience. Kimchi is such a Korean icon, so it was nice to learn how to make it. We even got to take our prepared kimchi home! Cool!

Hello again everyone!

A few days ago we went to Nampo-Dong in Busan at night. We went to see all of the Christmas lights and other decorations on Fashion Street. It was fantastic! The atmosphere was lovely. People were walking around and enjoying themselves. We finished the evening with a delicious hot cocoa in a little cafe.

We have lived in South Korea for more than two years now, and we’re still learning stuff. That’s one of the exciting things about living abroad – you’re constantly challenged and constantly exhilarated. I love it! For example, from our home in Yangsan, it usually takes about an hour and a half to get to the other side of Busan where the beach and all the other cool stuff is. So, we don’t go too often. We recently tried just hopping on the long distance train for the last little section, and it worked! We got to the other side of town in less than half the time it usually takes! The snow is here! Which is interesting, because it actually doesn’t snow very much down here in Yangsan usually. Especially not as heavy as it did this time, and not this early in the Winter, either. The snow flakes were absolutely enormous! It stuck for a while, but the ground just wasn’t cold enough and it all melted away by the evening. Oh well.

Hopefully we’ll get a few more good snow days in this Winter. Thanks for watching!

This is the second time lapse video of clouds that I’ve made. The last one was made in my hometown of Edgewood, New Mexico, in the USA. It came out really great and has been a hit on our youtube page. I wanted to try to make another here in Korea. This time, I used our new Sony RX100.

The clouds here aren’t nearly as impressive as they are back in semi-arid New Mexico, but we do get some cool formations coming down off the mountain. Check out the video below and leave a comment! Let us know what you think!

I really enjoy making time lapse videos, and I’ll try to make a few more. The RX100 unfortunately does not have native time lapse capability, nor does it have a remote port like our old E-PL2. So, we’re left with manual shutter presses or sped up video. I hope a firmware release – official or otherwise – adds some built in intervalometer functionality to the RX100!

Join us as we walk around Pusandae (often called PNU) in Busan, Korea!

Pusandae, commonly just referred to as PNU, is the area around Busan National University. Pusan is the older romanization of Busan – the names are interchangeable. So, you could call this little area PNU, Pusandae, Busandae, Busan National University, or Pusan National University.. and be correct every time. The Hangul is 부산대.

Most of the PNU area is brightly lit at night with countless neon signs and LED displays, all vying for the attention of the passing crowds. Even on a slow day, PNU seems busy.. not unlike the rest of urban South Korea. Of course, street food is abundant.

This is one of our favorite neighborhoods in Busan. There are lots of things to do and lots of great places to hang out. You can always find a great cafe or restaurant to spend time in. If you want to visit, just make you’re way to Busan National University Station on line 1 of Busan’s subway system. Try some Egg Bread while you’re there!

It’s time to check out some more Korean street food! Yum!

Egg Bread – 계란 빵 – is one of our FAVORITE street food items in Korea. It’s SO good! We found some near Pusan National University and ate it! The egg bread vendors seem to disappear during the warmer months, so we’re happy to see them return now that the weather is getting colder.

Egg bread is a lot like corn bread, but a bit sweeter – and there is an egg baked right into the middle! It might sound underwhelming, but it’s amazing. They bake them in little food stands or the backs of small trucks (like we found today) right on the side of the street. They are super cheap – less than $1.00 USD each! These little egg breads make fantastic quick snacks on a cold day, and are most excellent quick breakfast foods when you’re late to work in the morning!

Hi everyone!

We have a big announcement! We’re getting married!

That’s right! Next week we will go to Seoul to visit the American embassy. There, we’ll sign some papers, and then take them to a Korean Gu office to be made official. That’s the whole process!

WE’RE SUPER EXCITED!

We’ll be having a small celebration with our friends here in this part of the world now, but we plan to have a normal (sorta) ceremony back home some time next year, too. Don’t worry, family and friends, you won’t be left out!

We love you all and we couldn’t do anything without you. Thank you for your endless support.
