Format

Standard X-Country meet, courses offered: White, Yellow, Orange and Red.

Directions to the start:

From the North: Take I-70 to Exit 41 (Hwy 231 - Greencastle/Cloverdale). Turn south on 231 and drive through Cloverdale. Continue south, passing the Cataract Falls turnoff, until you come to a "Y". Take the right fork of the "Y", continuing south through Carp. You are now on county road 50E. Continue south on 50E for 0.6 miles, and look for 600N on the right, at the top of a small hill.
Turn west (right) on 600N and continue approx. 3 miles to a single-lane wooden bridge on the right that crosses over Rattlesnake Creek. Turn right at the bridge and follow the one-lane gravel road for almost three more miles to the Rattlesnake Campground
From the south: Take Hwy 231 north from Spencer. About one mile after the junction of 231 and 67, look for county road 550N. Turn west (left) on 550N and continue for a mile until the road "T"s into 50E. Turn north (right) on 50E and continue for a half mile to 600N, at the small hill. Turn west (left) and proceed as described above.

Parking & Carpooling:

Like our meets at Story, parking space near the HQ is limited. Unlike Story, however, the gravel road leading to the campground is not wide enough to permit roadside parking, so please do not plan to do this.
As you approach the campground on the gravel road, you will notice several small parking areas on both sides. Please make a mental note of these, because if the campground space is full, you will need to drive back down the road and park in one of these areas. Be sure never to block a fire road with your car (look for the steel cables).

UPDATED LOCATION FOR START: Because of the snow, we'll be starting and finished at the Hideaway. It's located just east of Raceway Road on 65th. You do not need to go down the hill and the park will plow past the entrance for us. There is parking available in a lot on the left, a few spots at the Hideaway and along the road. Format

Score-O Meet: Teams will receive their maps and will have 1 or 2 hours depending on the course to find as many controls as they can in any order. Each control will have a different point value depending on how far away it is, or how difficult it is to find. Winners are determined by points first, then time. Penalties are assessed at 1 point lost for every minute late your team returns to the finish.

Location:

Eagle Creek West rowing center field. From Raceway Road take 65th street east towards the reservoir, turn right at the bottom of the hill and then left into the field.

Note that this property is fairly rugged with lots of hills. As always we'll do our best to offer beginner courses, but be aware that it is very different from properties like Belzer, Marrot and Holiday. That being said it's a great place to improve so come on out!

Other Information

Safety: Make sure you bring a headlamp and/or a flashlight since you'll be moving around the park at night.

Costume Contest: Don't forget, this is a Halloween event so come dressed up in your favorite costume. We'll be having a contest with the winners announced at the conclusion of the 2 hour event!
Pricing: Group Fee is $5 member or $15 non-member and includes one map. Additional maps for your group are $2 each
Membership Costs: Annual fee of $30 for families or $20 for individual memberships.

Hoosier Outdoor Experience and National Orienteering Day

The weekend of September 26th and 27th is a big one for orienteering in central Indiana. We've got two events in conjunction with one another, both days!

The first ever Hoosier Outdoor Experience is being held at Ft. Benjamin Harrison from 9am - 6pm both days. See their website for all the specifics but this event is essentially a state fair type event, but with a focus on outdoor recreation. The target audience is individuals who do not normally get involved in the outdoors and the goal is to introduce them to all the things that can be done around Indiana and hopefully help them find their next hobby.

Indiana Crossroads Orienteering will be helping out by teaching a clinic every hour, both days focusing on basic use of map and compass to "stay found" regardless of your activity. We will also have a booth with some info on orienteering, and all attendees will be receiving a flier on the club when they leave.

At the same time we will be holding our annual National Orienteering Day meets at Camp Belzer both days. People at the Experience will be able to come over and try an actual O course if they would like, and as always our club members are encouraged to come on out. The meet info is as follows:

From the east leg of I-465, exit at 56th Street east. Continue east on 56th Street to Boy Scout Road. Turn left (north) and follow road to camp gateway on your left.

Paddle O is on!!

On September 12th, from 4-9pm the paddle O will once again be held at Eagle Creek Park. This year however it will be starting from the marina on the east side. Wayne Jones will be our director.

Read on for all the great details!

Location: Eagle Creek Marina on the east side of Eagle Creek in the main park. From 56^th street entrance ~ 1.5 miles north turn left @ the Marina sign, keep going straight you will dead end in the parking lot. From 71^st entrance ~ 1 mile turn right at the Marina sign, keep going straight you will dead end in the parking lot.

Description: Two hour and 4 hour paddle score-o you must declare your intention to do 2 or 4 hour when you get your map. As usual there will be a fun contest embedded within the paddle-0 “Twilight Bingo”. There will be no official foot score-o event.

Time: Pre-marked maps will be handed out after 4:00 PM, prerace briefing 4:20 PM mass start for all at 4:30.

Finish: 2 hour 6:30 PM, 4 hour 8:30 PM For every minute you are late you will lose your highest point control including groups.

Safety: You must have your life vest on and strapped any time you are on the water.

Twilight Bingo: There will be a set of designated controls. The first 4 teams to accumulate any 7 of these and return the start/finish will be able to select from the available prizes. More details will be provided at the event.

Fees: If you do not have a pass there is a 5.00 charge to get in the park.

Boats: Bring your own canoe or kayak no motors or boats are available to be rented from the marina, costs are listed below. We are looking in to the possibility of reserving boats ahead of time.

We also will have canoes available for rental off site for $15, with proceeds going to ICO. Keep in mind that you will have to transport the boat yourself, and pay $5 to get it into the park. Contact Jerry at jlyons@indyo.org for more details!

It's not that hard to do, and we guarantee you'll have a fantastic time designing a course, directing on meet day and everything in between.

About the property:

This map is fairly small, but it's quite hilly with a lot of diverse terrain. We have historically had meets here in the winter the last few years, so seeing it in May should make for an interesting new experience for everyone!

Rogaine Final Update

The 2009 Conquer the Crossroads Ragaine is just 2 days away. Here is an update:

Schedule- No change from web site.

* 7:30 AM - 12 hour registration opens

* 9:00 AM - 12 hour course starts

* 10:00 AM - 6 hour registration opens

* 12:00 PM - 6 hour course starts

* 6:00 PM - 6 hour course closes

* 9:00 PM - 12 hour course closes

* "Hash House" at the start/finish area will be open all day long!

The start finish is at the Cherry Lake Shelter. This is just west of the main forest office. Look for the signs once you get in the forest. There is limited parking in front of the shelter. When you come for registration we will hand you your packet. Please sign your waivers and return them. After doing that, immediately go to one of the designated parking areas that we will be marked, to start your race preparations. We will hand out shirt as you finish so we can be sure everyone gets the shirt sizes they requested. Afterwards we will swap out any shirts with what sizes we have left.

There are a few of you that have not completed your payment yet. PLEASE bring your payment with you to the event!!

Standard X-Country meet. There will be a White, Yellow, Brown, and Blue course (expect the Blue to be over 12k in distance with lots of climb).

Directions to the start:

Yellowwood State Forest is East of Bloomington, IN and West of Nashville, IN; North of State Road 46.

Off of SR46, look for Yellowwood Road which is about 9.5 miles East of the Bloomington intersection of SR46 and SR446 or is about 6 miles West of Nashville. Turn North on Yellowwood Rd and drive about 1.2 miles until you arrive at a bridge. Cross the bridge and turn left where Yellowwood Rd continues. Drive 1 mile and look for Yellowwood Rd to turn North. Drive North another ½ mile until you see a left turn down to the start/finish area. We plan to have orange and white ICO orienteering signs on Yellowwood Rd to help with the turns.
