The city licence application is now officially in for review. We met with all the city departments on Monday and are in the process of executing all the requirements set forth by those organizations. Our final presentation before the City of Atlanta Counsel is set for the middle of July so we should have ample time to check the items off our task list. As part of the review process we get to meet with the Neighborhood Planning Unit (NPU) for districts W and V, Grant Park and the neighboring Peoples Town/Adair Park area, and present our business idea. We are really excited about meeting representatives from both districts and hope that they are as excited about meeting us.

What we know for sure is that the building we have selected in Grant Park is zoned for our type of business. There is a slight usage modification that we have to make but that happens in lock step with the permitting process for the necessary building improvements (e.g.: drains, electrical service routing, HVAC, etc.) and should not be an issue.

The bad news, however, is that we are going to have to postpone the launching of our tasting room until we are a little further down the road. Due to the building being zoned entirely for industrial use, a portion would have to be re-zoned for assembly. This process is accompanied by some substantial “impact” fees that are just not in the budget at this time. Because of this we are strongly considering the idea of launching a kick starter campaign for the tasting room portion. This would allow for more involvement from friends, fans, and the community, and would get everyone really excited about the final design and allow for some really cool and one of a kind merchandise. However, because of the added time and expense, whichever route we take will be pushed out until we are fully operational. This is not to say that the tasting room isn’t on the forefront of our minds (believe us, we’d love to have it from day 1), we just want to make sure that we allocate everything we can to the actual beer production to ensure that it is of the highest quality and that we can meet the production demand.

The state application is a cake walk compared to the city and it should be submitted by noon today. With this done most of the red tape is cut and we are well on the way to seeing this dream become a reality. Thank you all for supporting us along this seemingly never ending road.

- Eventide

PS: The NPU program is pretty awesome. It sets up a way for citizen advisory councils to make recommendations to the Mayor and City Council on zoning, land use, and other planning issues. Creative Loafing did a really informative article about it here. Get involved and know your community.

The Good News: It’s a beer fest at Zoo Atlanta. There are too many party animal jokes to be made here, so we will refrain. This shindig benefits the primate collection, so show up for the fun and then go home feeling good about making a difference for a great cause.

Location: Zoo Atlanta from 5:30-9:30 this Saturday the 25th

The Bad News: We don’t have a booth this year. (Fingers crossed, maybe next year!)

Here’s their video trailer:

As many of you know we are coming to the end of American Craft Beer Week, a celebration of the craft industry. Although, most things come to an end your celebration of craft beer doesn’t have to end today, tomorrow, or ever for that matter. Here at Eventide we celebrate craft beer on a daily basis and you should too.

We will be rounding out our weekly celebration tomorrow at the East Atlanta Beer Festival. If you haven’t purchased your tickets hop over to SweetJack and grab the sweet deal. Their beer and vendor list is incredible this year.

Also, be on the look out for our Eventide reps. They’ll have some pretty awesome swag with them along with some behind the scene updates on our progress.

Cheers!
