The Flux Laboratory Grand Bal

As one who like Flux Laboratory very much since I discovered this art space quite recently I was looking forward to attend their annual Grand Bal. This year the party took place at a new venue, GenevaArtSpace, which is a cool event space recently opened in Geneva. Guests were welcomed with yummy cocktails and passed hors d'oeuvres. Animations were provided by Le Projector and Voxset followed by the fantastic Metamorphoz Crew who demoed a few dance on different beats and came down from the stage to warm up the dancefloor and motivate the crowd. The entire crew stayed on the dancefloor for quite some time dancing with the guests on music spinned by the duo Lulúxpo.

Eco-Chic Picnic Essentials

When it comes to napkin I like to use tissue ones as it's more eco-friendly and I feel it much chicer and in our world of highly disposable items I tend to feel it's a more special occasion and hence elevates the mood. Today being National Eat What You Want day was of almost no interest to me compared to the fact that it is also the day celebrating the famed show THE TWILIGHT ZONE- yet you know I am very much into more lifestyle issues than scyfy.
Indeed I tend to have very little interest for such shows and movies but somehow when a dear friend made me watch an episode I got hooked and enjoyed many more episode and was delighted to explore themes ranging from time travel, creatures, enchanted objects, parallel dimensions and universes and much more which I never though I would enjoy. I found that the creator, Rod Sterling, made each story very compelling and most of his characters are very likable including robots, machines and other possible odd creatures. The fantasy, drama and suspense of each story appears quite precursor as well as the general tone of the show since the anthology series debuted in 1959.

I am off for to a TWILIGHT ZONE mini marathon trying to watch as many of the 156 episodes as I can! I am definitely due to watch my absolute favorite again, Time Enough At Last and the classic To Serve Man. What are your personal favorites?

Earth Day means time to sign up for Community Supported Agriculture

Earth day doesn't seem such a big deal to me as I consider everyday as such but I did want to share a specific post with you and thought about suggesting the idea of signing up for a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA). The concept is simple; you own a share of the farm and in exchange you receive or pick up a selection of fresh vegetables ( and soemtimes fruits, flowers and even eggs) which let you discover some you might never try otherwise - some farmers even share recipes along with their shipments. The only slight danger is that if the year is bad the harvest will obviously not be as good as it should but most farms have enough crops to avoids these issues and if you select a CSA who has been in business for several years you have more chances for a better crop.
If I were in NYC I would absolutely sign up right away to be sure to have fresh fruit and veggies all summer long while supporting the local agriculture and the farm to table movement.
I browsed LocalHarvest to pick the best reviewed and most appealing to New Yorkers but it's important you carefully review all the options as each farm offers specitures such as events and some let you volunteer by trying out your farming skills.

Unexpected life changes

You probably noticed that I have been unable to keep the site up to date recently. Obviously I was not being lazy or anything but it turns out that I have gotten extremely sick and spent too many days at the hospital in a near death experience.
As a result I will be running the site from my home country of Swissyland -aka as Switzerland of course- this is only temporary and will be beneficial as it will enable me to write about more diverse matters. I will have someone helping me from NYC while I will keep writing most of the content including posts about my new life in Europe.
I was originally not very enthusiastic about this but decided to make the best of it and I am absolutely aware that change can be absolutely positive at times and will work harder than ever in order to keep providing you interesting content.

It only take a few minutes to fill up a foot bath and let your feet soak in it for a while and simply enjoy a relaxing time. Grab a magazine or flip through this week tabloids - I avoid books during home spa moments as I very much dislike having to interrupt my "real reads" - and after a few minutes of relaxing soaking in some damp water infused with natural oils the use of a yummy smelling scrub is a well welcomed treat. As you might have noticed with last week hula hooping post I purposely choose to extend the "Sunday Funday" feature to its literal sense and not stay limited to the hair of the dog boozy end of to your weekend.

Looking at my closet I can't help but thinking it needs a major cleanup- as I have actually been recently told that it's "throwing up clothes" (very appealing I know!). Like many girls who appreciate fashion and has fun switching up styles I have a gianormous apparel and accessories collection. So here is what I am planning for my next Sunday Funday and I highly recommend it for whenever you have to accomplish the daunting closet makeover task- invite one or two of your most trusted friends and be ready to try on pretty much everything you own. I am aware this might take a while
Let your friend play dress up with you and listen to their advice regarding what still fits you, what you should wear more often and put together new unexpected looks with what you already own as for the rest it goes into usual piles - to sell - to donate - to mend/clean or customize and to store.
I can assure you that a free afternoon of playing dress up, while sipping cocktails and snapping photos of you new look will have you in the best mood for week ahead.

Shopping for a cause: Samantha Thavasa One Day Sale For Japan

Samantha Thavasa the high end Japanese fashion company, known primarily for their handbags will be discounting its collections at 70% to 80% percent. Celebrities and socialites such as Beyoncé and Solange Knowles have participated in their advertising campaigns while Nicky Hilton, Victoria Beckham, and Tinsley Mortimer have handbag lines with the company. Jennifer Lopez is the latest celebrity to endorse the brand . All proceeds will be donated to the Japanese Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.

Fancy Friday: Barbie Foot Table

As some of you might now this is not news as this awesome Barbie Foot foosball table was launched almost two years ago.

French designer Chloe Ruchon collaborated with Mattel and foosball manufacturer Baby-foot Bonzini to present a toy which is usually perceived as masculine in a feminine way for a change.
It seems that this limited edition foosball table has not encountered a huge success- only ten were made- but as I found out this week a FAO Swarz they have not been sold out since the summer of 2009. Each table retails for just under $25K but I can see it as an inspiration to for DIY upcycled toys.

This week I simply want to remind you of the importance of a few basics that will always serve you well:

Know the colors that look best on you. If you are still unsure it time to figure it out- pay attention to compliments and have a few trusted friends telling you what they think of different tones on your skin. Pink,blue and white compliment most complexions then just adjust the shade to you carnations.
Be trend selective according to fit and flatters you and only pick what you really love from each season.
In case of doubt, rush or any possible emergency situation stick to styles that you feel comfortable in and style it up with gorgeous heels and purse, and accessories to give the vibe you want.You know that accessories are the key to any look - so have fun with them and don't hesitate to splurge in this area as they can transform any outfit from drab to fab.
go for a sleek and mess-free hairdo such as a high ponytail or simply slip in a fashionable turban for an easy update on traditional looks.

The main principle of makeover being based on a wardrobe revamp it might seem easy to buy a cheap version of something new "just to try it out" but it will be wasted money if you end up not being at ease enough in it to wear it outside your home. An easy way to incorporate a new style element you like but are not sure you would actually wear is t make it part of a costume and head out to a theme party or event as it will give you a chance to figure out how you feel in it and test people's reaction to it. I sported my first wig when I dressed as Barbie several years ago and I now own about ten wigs which I wear regularly.If you aren't planning to attend or throw a costume party anytime soon and want to try something new just go for a shopping afternoon with your most trusted friend- mine would be my mom- and force yourself to only pick looks you like but don't think you would pull them off and be very selective when trying on. You want to feel totally at ease or it might become just another addition to the things (sort of )piled up in the back of your closet. Walk several times through the store in it, it, bend down, etc before making any buying decision but be ready to step out of your comfort zone as you will most likely like it.

Wednesday Hump day: Desirs at the Crazy Horse

As of today each Wednesday will include a on something sex-y in honor of hump day as it is sometimes good to stick with the basics and by the basics I do mean to refer to the action of humping and not the fact that it will be all down hill for the rest of the week!Because honestly I believe we all like the idea of sex more than judging each day of the week compare to the others and the original meaning of hump day does only apply to 9 to 5ers!

So for the first post on the subject I wish to share the experience I enjoyed during my last trip to Paris. I finally went to see the "DESIRS" show at famed cabaret, The Crazy Horse. The renown venue used to be a wine cave and has been transformed over the years to host amazing shows since 1951- it now uses the space of twelve wine caves. The famed venue had Dita Von Teese as its first guest star back in 2006 and she now comes back quite regularly.
DESIRS has been performed for over a year and a half but the legendary avant-garde scene has worked with the talented Philipe Decoufle as directing choreographer who explored the many faces of femininity through surprisingly modern dances which were high in colors. Absolute aestheticism combined with special effects and incredibly perfect beauties dancing to carefully selected songs made for a dreamy evening.

Les filles du Crazy (the girls of the Crazy) as they are called are sensual, mischievous and as stars of the Parisian nights they master the art of teasing. The sassy dancers represent the elite of seduction and glamour. Their audacity and grace shows through each number as they use and abuse of their ability to keep their mystery behind funky and sexy stage names.

The House has many rules and codes but only a few are obvious to the public such as the perfect curves of each dancer's body, the blood-like lipstick,the extremely high heels and its trademark bob wigs which can only be cut to a very specific length.

The more than revealing yet chicly precious costumes were commissioned to Poupie Cadolle et Fifi Chachnil as both designers goal is to make women feel sensual and beautiful while several of the dances featured heels specially designed by hyped shoe-maker Christian Louboutin.

Each year the Crazy goes through 2500 pairs of tigh high , 500 liters of body makeup and 300 « Crazy » red lipstick tubes (of course the Crazy has its own shade of lipstick!).

As you can see on the above picture the Crazy serves its own champagne, "La Cuvee Crazy"during the show. The bubbly, which was specially created last Summer, comes in two sizes and is also sold at their store. To me this was just the perfect extra touch to top off an amazing evening.

The experience is simply brilliant and I highly recommend the "Made In Crazy" unforgettable evening during your next Parisian vacations. If you absolutely can't wait until then you can also opt to fly to Las Vegas as they extended with a troop performing at the MGM Grand since 2001. The dancers have been rotating between Paris and Vegas every six months ever since.

Emily Giffin, a book signing and matchmaking event

This one is going to be brief as I didn't think the event was particularly noteworthy and was originally going to skip this post. Friday a friend convinced me to stop by Pranna for New York Times bestselling author, Emily Giffin's early celebration of Something Borrowed to the big screen with Hillary Swank (coming out May 6th) which doubled as the paperback launch of Heart of the Matter . The evening of book signing and matchmaking started as a Girl's Night Out with an hour and a half of women lining up forever and therefore crowding half of the space dedicated to the party. The first 100 ladies who bought the book received a gift bag while everyone was given a chance to enter a raffle to four tickets for the advance screening of Something Borrowed!
At 9pm attendees' most eligible bachelors friends were welcomed to mingle - but the obvious good ol' trick of filling a venue with ladies to make men come and spend $$$ was too obvious to my taste- and I personally wasn't able to enjoy being surrounded ONLY by women for over an hour...with only passed appetizers but no open bar!

The evening ended with Emily introducing her six most eligible bachelor friends and her Bday as an after party but by then I was more than ready to head back downtown for more fun!

5 minutes for you : Relax

As I am rolling out daily sections I am planning on making a "5 minutes for you" Tuesday piece to remind everyone how simple things can lead to a happier a more balanced life. We all know "me time" is essential to our well being but our busy schedules easily lead us to skip these essential moments in favor of some more work, chores, random web browsing and over media-socializing.

For today I simply hope want to get you on the bandwagon and motivate you to regain your me time. It so easy to put your phones and computers away for a while and light a few eco candles - I personally like New Leaf in Bamboo River-. I suggest covering up your eyes with an aromatherapy eye pillow for as long as you wish. Feel free to play some feel good chill tunes I know it can be hard for some of us but DO NOT THINK ABOUT ANYTHING and just be there enjoying the moment. f you can't help but thinking about all your "to-do" lists and other ongoing concerns simply focus on your breathe a you would in yoga. I will develop further on that in upcoming posts.

HERMES Sample Sale at Soiffer Haskin

One of my favorite chic and classic french luxury fashion house is prepping for a major sample sale starting tomorrow at Soiffer Haskin, as you can imagine the legendary Birkins and Kellys wont be available there but the choice will still be large enough that you won't know which bag, accessory or piece of apparel to invest on. Feel free to bring your man or get him a early birthday present as there will be an assortment for him as well including ties and more.

The sale last a few days but I would suggest to go in the first couple of days - or third if you really can't make it earlier as nothing is being said about new arrival daily - and for such a brand I doubt there will be any!

SUNDAY FUNDAY: Hula Hooping

As the new daily sections are coming together Eventista will now be sharing a SundayFunday idea for its readers to enjoy!

Having done so much hula hoop as a kid (I remember hooping hours long and even skipping meals for not wanting to stop counting how many thousands times the hoop had been around my waist ) I was so happy to see a few of my fabulous girlfriends hooping in a Brooklyn Park a couple of years ago. From that day on I raced to Party City and bought a few blinged-up hulas to start practicing again and was to be found every Sunday hula hoopin at my favorite Brazilian hangout, Miss Favela.

Summer being upon us I can only encourage you to grab one or more to get started and reconnect with your inner child - Enjoy the outdoors and get hooping after watching a few Youtube tutorials if needed. I personally need to resume practicing as well and I am considering buying weighted hoops for the first time- This fun and cheap activity also double as a great, easy and fun cardio workout... just in case you aren't quite convinced yet.

I will soon again be heading out with a few hoops around me - so let me know if you feel like joining! I added a GrooveHoops class I will attend on the 28th as a calendar item for Eventista - should you want to join in the fun ...

I am so psyched to resume my wanderings to parks and fun hooping friendly bars. If you are not used to hooping just give it chance and you will see what a great conversation starter this fun accessory becomes and might love it even more!
