With some new lens kit arriving in time for the first All-Ireland final at the beginning of September, the low-light test was in The Hole In The Wall, one of Kilkenny’s oldest venues and home for the foreseeable future of a new music series called Songwriters In The Round.

The night was being filmed for SoKilkenny.com, one of our biggest content products to date (if not the biggest) and while you can find photos and videos from the night there, here’s a look at how the videos turned out.

The below videos were shot on a mounted Canon 60D using a Sigma 70:200 F2.8 lens with a stereo mic pair picking up the audio in the room, synced through Final Cut Pro X.

I’ve been using a Samsung Galaxy Note II for almost two years as my office mobile and this week added the Samsung Galaxy S5 to the collection, with the iPhone 5S still the primary mobile handset.

I send mobile screenshots the whole time. With the iPhone, it’s a breeze – hold the power button and menu button together and off you go.

With the Samsung Galaxy S5, however, the approach is a little different and rather innovative. Slide across the screen from right to left with the side of your hand, the screen will flash, and your screenshot gets saved out to the gallery. Handy!

Enable Palm Swipe on the Samsung Galaxy S5

If you need to enable to disable the palm swipe feature on your Samsung Galaxy S5, do the following

Open Settings

Scroll to Motion and open Motions and gestures

Open Palm swipe to capture

Toggle on or off

WooThemes’ Canvas theme (which drives this blog, and many others I’ve published) is without fail one of the most flexible and customisable WordPress themes you’re going to come across.

After months and months of version updates, one of the most requested features – child themes for Canvas – has come to the fold. There’s three commercial child themes available but from a development point of view, this will make custom development around the Canvas theme a whole lot easier in the long run.

The first child theme, Uno, was launched about three weeks ago and this has been followed up by two additional child themes, Duo and Fashionable, all with really nice WooCommerce integration (as would be expected at this stage).

Overall it should make porting custom designs, functions and changes between custom Canvas developments a whole lot easier for WordPress heads.

As part of a LEADER-backed project for 2014, I’ve been working alongside Graiguenamanagh’s Spark Productions on matters marketing and technology to get the group up to speed in terms of their advertising and promotion in the arts world through the use of graphic design, audio and video.

Next month, the group return to the scene of their first theatre production, One For The Road, which has grown legs over the past three years to become The Last of the Freshers, a coming-of-age comedy of sorts.

This is the finished artwork for the overall production, with a number of character only promos to follow.

The show runs at the The Duiske Inn, Graiguenamanagh, Co. Kilkenny from 22-24 August 2014.

The group recently completed an intensive day of design software training here at the office so I’m looking forward to seeing what they can do when they put their new found skills to the test.
