EFT Bureau, Gurgaon: The Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh will lay the foundation stone of India's first Defence University, "Indian National Defence University (INDU)" on May 23, 2013 at Binola, Gurgaon. INDU would be a unique autonomous Institution of national importance.

It may be recalled that after the Kargil conflict, the government had set up a Review Committee, headed by eminent strategic expert K Subrahmanyam, which had recommended establishment of a university to exclusively deal with defence and strategic matters. The aim of INDU would be to provide military leadership and other concerned civilian officials knowledge based higher education for management of the defence of India, and keeping them abreast with emerging security challenges through scholarly research & training. The INDU would develop and propagate higher education in Defence Studies, Defence Management, Defence Science and Technology and promote policy oriented research related to National Defence.

The think tanks of the University would provide inputs for policy formulation. The university would prepare officers for high level leadership, Staff & Policy responsibilities. National College of Defence Studies (NCDS), Indian Institute of Defence Technology (IIDT), Indian Institute of Defence Management (IIDM) and Defence Institute of Distance & Open Learning (DIDOL) would be the constituent colleges and institutions of the INDU.

This long awaited University will be instituted by an Act of Parliament with President of India as the Visitor and Defence Minister as the Chancellor. It would be governed by its own norms and promote coordination and interaction between Armed Forces & non-Armed Forces institutions/establishments in the country. It will focus on higher education in defence studies, defence management and defence science & technology. The University will offer post graduate studies and doctoral/post doctoral research. The present institutes of Indian Armed forces would be affiliated with it such as National Defence College (NDC) New Delhi, Defence Services Staff College (DSSC) Wellington, College of Defence Management (CDM) Secunderabad and National Defence Academy (NDA) Khadakwasla. The INDU would have provisions for other defence training institutions to get affiliated for award of degrees. The University would also provide opportunities for higher studies through distance learning to interested military & civilian personnel.

The University will be headed by its President, who would be a three star serving General/equivalent officer with C-in-C status on appointment. The Vice-President will be a civilian. 66% of students would be from the Armed Forces, whereas 33% of students would be drawn from other government agencies, police & civilian. The teaching faculty will comprise of both military personnel and civilians in the ratio of 1:1. The University is being planned on the lines of IIT/IIMs.

Indian Film Festival 2013 in Seoul From May 24–28

EFT Report, Seoul: An Indian film festival, where hugely popular Bollywood movies like "Veer Zaara" will be screened, is to be held in Seoul to commemorate the 40th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between India and South Korea.

The festival will be held at CGV Yeouido, IFC Mall in Seoul from May 24–28, 2013.

It has been organized by the Indian embassy with the support of CGV, the Indian tourism ministry and the Directorate of Film Festivals, a press release said.

Last month, the film festival was held at Busan to packed auditoriums.

A selection of six films will be shown at this event—"Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara", "Rockstar", "Fashion", "Veer Zaara", "Jab We Met" and "Lage Raho Munnabhai".

The festival will be flagged off with a brief inaugural cultural show by the Indian Cultural Centre on May 24. Both the winners of the "Incredible India & Korea Times Quiz Contest" will also be felicitated at the function.

The Indian Cultural Centre (ICC) was set up in 2011 in Seoul. It offers regular Yoga and dance classes by highly qualified Indian instructors, besides Hindi language classes.

Microsoft Unveils New ‘Xbox One’ Games

Over 91 Killed in Oklahoma Tornado

EFT Report, Moore: One of the deadliest tornadoes hit US State of Oklahoma on May 20, 2013, killing at least 91 people, including 20 children. The disastrous tornado tore across parts of Oklahoma City and its suburbs, flattening homes, flinging cars through the air and crushing at least two schools.

The injured rushed to hospitals, and the authorities said many people remained trapped, even as rescue workers struggled to make their way through debris-clogged streets to the devastated suburb of Moore, where much of the damage occurred.

Amy Elliott, the spokeswoman for the Oklahoma City medical examiner, said at least 91 people had died, including the children, and officials said that toll was likely to climb. Hospitals reported at least 145 people injured, 70 of them children.

Oklahoma Tornado 2013

The suburb recovered from a fierce twister in 1999 that killed six people there and dozens in the area. When that tornado struck, it was the most devastating in history in terms of wind speed, Oklahoma Lt. Gov. Tom Lamb said.

This time, the 2-mile-wide twister stayed on the ground for a full 45 minutes. The death toll has far surpassed anything the area has seen from a tornado—and is expected to climb.

The week-long festival, being held in co-operation with Kerala State Chalachitra Academy, state Culture department and Federation of Film Societies of India would be inaugurated by Adoor Gopalakrishnan.

Dr. Robert Sniadach
Dr. Sniadach has many years of clinical practice with fasting, detoxification programs and chronic disease care. He developed and administered fasting and meditation retreats at various locations in the USA and Australia.

He co-founded Healthful Living International (HLI) in 1999, a membership organization committed to teaching and practicing natural hygiene.
