The future is here! And while it may be impossible to foretell exactly what the face of tomorrow’s online leaning trends will look like, there are several predictions worth noting.

Freedom from Traditional Classroom Learning

Students may very well have the option of setting their own curriculum and studying at their own pace. This means the paradigm shift of learning will be geared towards the needs of the individual student. As it stands now, the online learning model all but eliminates the need of a formal classroom and addresses the need for individual learning freedom.

What the Future Holds

It’s believed by those who have future-vision that learning opportunities will be embedded in other activities, just like players who learn as a game progresses. Only thing is, those learning will not have to learn how to play the game first; they can augment learning by attempting to achieve goals and tasks and what they need to learn will be provided in that context.

Envision the Perfect Future Learning Environment

The perfect learning environment is believed to be an experience where formal and informal learning models can be realized in a single experience. Online learning is trending towards the day when students can choose how they learn, when they learn, and where they'll learn.

Online learning can be accomplished from the safety and comfort of your home, on vacation, or on the go! And with the rapid of advance of technology, who can tell what the new hand-held mode of delivery might be.

Everest University Online, a division of Everest University, wants to be there when you decide it's time to be the driving-force in your own future.

Attending college right after school was put off, or delayed indefinitely until the so-called right time approached, which in the case of many never arrived!

However, thanks to the Internet, getting an online education in many cases has never been easier and more affordable.

The great thing about finding an online education or degree program that works is that it allows you to work around your own schedule. Securing an online education is great for parents and working professionals. Another notable fact is that an online degree is widely accepted as a legitimate by many employers.

The personal flexibility that an online degree provides is sought by more and more people of all types and ages. While no one knows the exact amount of students presently enrolled online, it makes sense to reason that the numbers are growing yearly.

Many people are taking the time to return to school and enhance their education and career possibilities. A person can find the same activities in an online learning class as they can in a traditional classroom.

Videoconferencing allows students, in real time, to interact with other students and professors. Chat rooms and message boards can also provide a great way for students to bond with others of like mind and spirit in an online learning environment.

There is also a definite social benefit associate with taking classes online. Students are able to fit study time around their own personal lifestyle and then attend to other important matters. With online education, the cost of relocating may be a thing of the past as well.

There are a huge number of schools offering online education programs, and that number can reasonably be expected to grow in the near future. One main reason is that an online education program offers amenities that can fit the diverse lifestyles of a growing segment of the population.

Why not check out Everest University Online, a Division of Everest University, to find out if we're the online education fit you've been looking for.

If you are like most people, this downtime in the economy could be a signal to get back in the saddle by upgrading your online learning experience.

Just be aware that online classes are often very different from the traditional face-to-face class largely in how the material is presented.

Everest University Online, a division of Everest University, understands the online learning experience will be different for everyone. Even excellent students sometime find the experience to be incompatible with their learning style. Before enrolling in an online class, it's widely advised to examine the pros and the cons of getting your degree online.

Earn A Degree at Your Own Pace

One of the benefits that online learning provides is the privilege of learning at your own pace. This means you get to choose the classes and you want and the opportunity to work them into a personal schedule that reflects your lifestyle. It also means saving on driving expenses. Learn "anywhere" at "anytime" is no longer just a catch phrase.

You will also have the privilege of accessing your homework 24/7. Read lectures, access discussions, explanations and comments when you choose to. The distractions in a traditional classroom, such as tiredness and boredom, are virtually eliminated by the online learning experience.

Boost Your Earning Potential

It's commonly agreed that pursuing an online degree carries the possibilities of boosting your earning potential in both the long and short run. While there are no guarantees, many employers value candidates who have the self-discipline and motivation to pursue higher education. It makes perfect sense to give yourself an obvious edge.

Online Learning Courses

Here are just a few of the most popular online degrees being pursued:

Accounting

Master of Business Administration

Applied Management

Computer Information Science Criminal Justice

We think your decision to inquire about an online learning experience can lead to bigger and better things.

Why not apply today to find out more about the online learning experience that might just give your career options the wings they deserve!

There is entire economy of excitement that is generated both inside and outside of higher education circles as a result of accessible programs.

Online education today is transforming the ability to deliver information to new audiences - which will ultimately continue to affect the competitive employment landscape.

The rational for embracing online education generally falls into several categories:

Access is Greatly Expanded

Many states are expanding access to online education to meet increasing demand. The great news is that larger amounts of work and family responsibilities are synchronized and accomplished through the availability of education being offered online.

Classroom Capacity has Increased Exponentially

Current colleges and universities are hard pressed to accommodate the influx of students. The solution may be to increase the delivery of online education to avoid overwhelming traditional brick and mortar capacities.

Lifelong Learning as the New Norm

A growing acceptance of lifelong learning has the affect of increasing the demand for online education across the board. These trends include executives seeking further training, working adults and those looking to leverage their time by pursuing online education. An increasingly competitive environment along with changes in public funding are both catalysts pushing the need for greater access to online education as well.

At Everest University Online, a division of Everest University, we believe we have a solution to those seeking an online education by offering career - oriented degree programs that allow you to access higher leaning when and where you want.

Now you can earn your Associate, Bachelor's or Master’s degree in an array of popular career fields. You also get the quality of support and instruction that can make your dreams of getting an online degree a reality.

•	Apple Unveils New iPods, Software. On Wednesday, September 9, Apple introduced a new lineup of iPods as well as upgraded software for its iTunes, iPhone and iPod Touch services. The upgraded iPod Nano includes a built-in video camera and microphone, as well as a slightly larger display. The high-end 16GB version is priced at $179, a $20 price cut from the previous flagship model. The stripped-down iPod Shuffle now comes in a new variety of colors and has a lower entry price of just $59. Owners of the iPhone and iPod Touch will be able to download free Apple’s new OS 3.1, which includes the “Genius” feature that recommends new music and application selections based on previous purchases. Also, Apple’s iTunes 9 software purportedly allows users to better organize applications using a drag-and-drop feature. The highlight of Apple’s presentation was the keynote address delivered by company co-founder Steve Jobs, who had not been seen in public since October 2008, just prior to undergoing liver transplant surgery. He quipped to the audience, “I’m still vertical.”

•	EPA Turned Off by Big Screen TVs. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has drawn a line in the sand when it comes to granting its coveted “Energy Star” sticker to big screen digital TVs monitors. These monitors tend to be big electricity guzzlers, consuming an average of 4 percent of a typical household’s monthly power bill, according to the EPA. To qualify for an “Energy Star,” the EPA wants digital TV energy efficiency increased 40 percent by May 2010, and 65 percent by May 2012. And no screen larger than 50 inches will qualify under any circumstances, due to their inherent thirst for power.

•	Twitter—Profitable? Until now, the wildly popular Twitter microblogging site has managed to snare tens of millions of users, but has yet to demonstrate any actual commercial capability. That may soon change. Twitter co-founder Biz Stone recently announced that the company is completing development of an analytics dashboard to which companies will be able to subscribe. The purpose of the dashboard? To measure what people are tweeting about them. (Naturally.) Twitter is expected to start selling subscriptions to its service by year’s end.

•	Cordless Electricity May Be On Its Way. WiTricity, a commercial spinoff of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) research, believes it won’t be long before laptop computers, telephones and even electric automobiles will be powered without benefit of a cord or cable. “Broadcast power” has been a dream of engineers since the days of 19th century inventor Nikola Tesla, but until now it has been limited to low-power, low-distance applications (like electric toothbrushes that are charged by sitting atop a plastic cradle). Now, WiTricity believes a new technology it calls “magnetically coupled resonance” will be able to cheaply—and safely—create electricity at a distance by use of certain magnetic frequencies. One would only need a “broadcast” unit plugged into a wall socket and “receiver units” either attached to or built into anything from laptop computers to electric automobiles to charge them up and make them work. Not only will magnetically coupled resonance do away with pesky power cords, but will also eliminate the need for disposable batteries, WiTricity believes, which will be of great benefit to the environment.

Computer giant IBM and the California Institute of Technology recently announced a breakthrough in microchip design that could result in a whole new generation of super-small, super-fast and super-smart computers. The breakthrough is based on studying how DNA folds itself, a form of organic “origami” that will allow chipmakers to pack even more transistors onto a single chip that is possible by current methods.

Currently, computer chips are made by a lithography process similar to conventional printing that results in circuits as small as 22 nanometers across. (A nanometer is one-billionth of a meter.) The new “DNA origami” method could result in circuits as small as just 6 nanometers, which will increase efficiency multi-fold.

Creating these new super-chips will require entirely new manufacturing methods that builds each chip literally one molecule at a time, meaning we probably will not see this new technology in the marketplace for at least a decade. However, IBM spokespeople insist they’ve already “cracked the code” of how to achieve the results they desire.

“It took a couple of years, but once you figure out how to do it, it’s easy,” IBM researcher Greg Wallraff stated in a recent interview.

When looked at closely, many of these terms—“bug,” “wiki,” “google,” etc.—seem nonsensical. Yet all have perfectly logical, and often very interesting, origins. For example:

Bug – The term is often credited to pioneering computer engineer Grace Hopper who, in 1946, traced a problem in Harvard’s Mark II computer to a moth trapped in a relay, and then actually pasted the fried flier in her log book. (There was a literal “bug in the system.”) However, the term “bug,” meaning a mechanical failure, actually goes all the way back to mid-19th Century Scotland.

Bit – Short for “Binary Digit”—or “Binary Digit”—take your pick—the term was first used in a 1948 paper by the “father of information theory,” Claude Shannon, who himself credited the term to American statistician John Tukey.

Cookie – Meaning a packet of information that travels between a browser and a Web server, the term was reported as being inspired by fortune cookies, which carry information hidden inside them.

Google – Google is the most popular search engine on the planet, so much so that its name has become a verb. (As in, “to google.”) The term “google” was originally “googol,” a term meaning the number “1” followed by 100 zeroes, created by prominent mathematician Edward Kasner. It was meant to represent “a really, really big number,” which is the amount of information Google is supposed to be able access.

Mac – The famous “Mac” computer is an abbreviation for “Macintosh,” a popular apple. Naturally, it’s a produced by Apple, formerly Apple Computer. Apple was named by company founder Steve Jobs who (1) once worked on an apple farm and (2) admired the Beatles’ Apple Records. He and co-founder Steve Wozniak supposedly couldn’t think of a better name, so, in April 1976, settled on Apple for the name of their new computer company.

Nerd – Supposedly the term was coined in the 1940s at the Renssellear Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York. It was meant to describe the opposite of a party person, a.k.a., a drunk. The opposite of a “drunk” is a “knurd”—pronounced “nerd.”

Pac-Man – The term comes from “paku-paku,” the sound the game’s Japanese creators believe the title character makes as it eats its way through its electronic maze. When the game was first brought to the United States, it was called “Puck-Man”—but was changed when smart-aleck kids started redrawing the name on the table-top consoles to something less socially acceptable. (haha…I didn’t know that.)

Radio Button – So named because they resemble pre-set buttons on old in-dash car radios. When you pushed one button, another pops out, only allowing you to make one selection at a time.

Spam – The term for unwanted email was inspired by a classic comedy routine from the 1970s/1980s British comedy troupe “Monty Python.” This particular skit was set in a restaurant that only served SPAM, the infamous canned “meat product.” When a patron tried to order anything else, the staff would inundate him with a list of alternate selections, all of them being, in one way or another, SPAM, until the poor customer relented.

TWAIN – It’s a language for acquiring information from image scanners that stands for…well…nothing. Because it looks like an acronym, computer geeks finally came up with: “Technology Without an Intelligent Name.”

Wiki – This name for software to which anyone can contribute was coined by its creator, American software designer Ward Cunningham, who named it after the fast and efficient “wiki wiki” shuttles at the Honolulu Airport in Hawaii.

If you are interested in a law career but don’t wish to be a practicing attorney, then becoming a paralegal may be just the thing for you.

Paralegals help licensed attorneys do research, organize information and prepare arguments. They often write reports summarizing cases, citing past decisions, articles and precedents that may help their client’s cause. They may also draft contracts, mortgages and separation agreements. Paralegals may not provide actual legal services, such as setting legal fees, giving legal advice and presenting cases in court, except as permitted by law.

Why consider a paralegal career? Here are some key reasons for choosing this exciting career path:

•	The Nature of the Work. The law is wide and deep, offering opportunities for people of varied interests. Specialties you can pursue include criminal law, corporate law, intellectual property, health care, international law, entertainment law, environment law, and many, many more. The work itself can be varied and challenging. This is also a field for ambitious individuals who are eager to assume ownership for complex tasks and who enjoy uncovering and organizing information.

•	Work environment. Seventy percent of paralegals work in law offices. The rest tend to work for either corporations or government agencies. All of these environments tend to be very professional, clean and well-organized. Co-workers tend to be well-educated.

•	Qualifications. Most law firms require that candidates have at least an Associate’s degree in Paralegal studies, or a Bachelor’s degree with a separate certificate in paralegal studies.

•	Income Potential. The earning power of paralegals varies widely depending on such factors as location, experience and the type of company/firm worked for. According to the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics’ (BLS) most recent data (May 2008), the median annual income of paralegals and legal assistants nationwide was approximately $43,000 in 2006, with half making more than that and half making less. The middle 50 percent earned between $33,920 and $54,690. The top 10 percent earned more than $67,540 while the bottom 10 percent earned less than $27,450.

Note that income potential varies significantly from state to state and from city to city depending on local economic and employment conditions, as well as the number of hours you choose to work and the type of facility where you choose to practice. For more information, please consult the Bureau of Labor Statistics and your local state labor department Web site.

•	Benefits. Because hours can be long, paralegals often receive bonuses, especially when they’re involved in winning cases. They usually also receive paid vacations, sick leave, a 401K savings plan, health insurance and similar corporate-style perks.

•	Job Prospects. Again, according to the BLS, employment opportunities for paralegals are expected to increase faster than average over the next six years. On a national level, approximately 53,000 new paralegal positions are expected to have been created between 2006 and 2016, driven by both population growth and continuing pressure on law firms to reduce expenses. At the state level, 2006-2016 growth projections vary widely. The strongest percentage growth is projected for Wyoming (43%), Florida (42%) and Utah (41%), while the weakest percentage growth is projected for Alaska and Colorado (14% each), Hawaii (12%) and North Dakota (11%). (Occupational growth rates are projections only, and will vary from community to community.)

•	Opportunities for Advancement. As your career progresses, you can look forward to assuming additional responsibilities, up to and including management positions where you supervise groups of paralegals.

An online education can be very attractive to someone who is already employed full time or has family responsibilities, and yet wants the rewards a college degree can bring.

Of course, getting a degree online isn’t for everyone. Online education has its positives—and its negatives.

Here are some important issues to consider before deciding to invest in an online education:

* Time Commitment. One of the primary attractions of an online education is that it allows you to pursue your degree on your own schedule and at your own pace. In fact, going online may be the only way people with 40-hour-a-week jobs or young children at home can get a higher education. But while online learning offers greater flexibility than brick-and-mortar colleges and universities, there is still a time commitment of several hours a day, both for Internet-based activities and off-line reading, writing and research. Some sacrifice will still be required—but at least you’ll have more choices in where those sacrifices are made.

* Course Materials. Another advantage of online learning is that course materials are usually provided digitally. There’s no need to invest in expensive hardbound books. But because materials are digital, you have to make a special effort to make sure they’re properly organized and filed. And some people are not all that comfortable reading everything off a computer screen. If this is your situation, be prepared to spend time and money using your printer to convert digital text to easier-to-handle hard copy.

* Social Interaction. One benefit of traditional education is that it allows you to meet new people, make new friends and often establish contacts with like-minded people who can be part of your professional “network” for years to come. While online learning still has a social component—many courses include virtual discussion groups and you often get to interact directly with your teachers—the experience is rarely as personal as face-to-face contact.

* Cost. Although there are no physical facilities involved with online learning, the cost of pursuing a degree online can be comparable to taking a similar program at a traditional private institution. Fortunately, in most situations, financing is available for those who qualify.

* Accreditation and credit transfers. Before committing to any educational program, be it online or off-line, make sure that the school is properly accredited and that any credits you earn can be transferred to other accredited institutions. If you are pursuing an online degree to further your professional career, it’s particularly important that you choose a school recognized for its quality education.
