George Hotz, who gained notoriety when he unlocked the original iPhone, has released a jailbreaking application for the iPhone named purplera1n. For now, it's Windows only (Windows 7 not supported). The jailbreak requires the latest version of iTunes and an iPhone 3GS with firmware 3.0.

Facebook today confirmed that Facebook for iPhone 3.0 is coming "very soon" and it is 98% done. It appears to be a significant upgrade and push notifications are in the works for the 3.1 update later this summer.

Those who use Tweetie (App Store link) as their Twitter client of choice will be pleased to find out that an update has been released that fixes the issue that would cause one search result to display at a time. The new update 1.3.2 is available for free for registered users. Tweetie itself retails for $2.99.

Typically, we find ourselves reporting on Apple declining an application for entry into the App Store. Today we simply find humor in the fact Mariolife (App Store link) somehow received approval. According to Daring Fireball, the App Store team does not deal with copyright and trademark issues when reviewing an app for entry. Huh? Again perhaps we hoped they would deal with common sense.

Fluent News was launched today and it's a different spin on news for the iPhone. The application aggregates mobile news content from a variety of categories and sources. Fluent is not an RSS feed aggregator, so you will be limited to the sources chosen by the developer. Since all sources are formated for the iPhone, it makes it easy to read the news. News junkies will find the NY Times, Washington Post, CNN and the Wall Street Journal.

Steve Jobs Returns To Work at Apple

Steve Jobs is officially back at work today at Apple, returning after taking medical leave earlier this year. “Steve is back to work,” said Steve Dowling, a spokesman for Apple. Jobs is at Apple a few days a week and working from home the rest of the time, he said. “We are very glad to have him back.” Jobs reportedly had a liver transplant, according to his doctors.
