How Fine You Look When Dressed In Rage

If you were a PC gamer around the time of Y2K hysteria, you might remember a game called American McGee's Alice. McGee wore a number of hats at id Software and worked on games like Doom 2, Quake, and Quake 2. Alice was McGee's first and only game for Electronic Arts after leaving id.

Furthermore, if you were a fan of the game (how could you not be?!) then you are probably aware of the years that this movie has spent in the place we all know as Development Hell. Shortly after the game was released, Wes Craven was on board to direct a film adaptation. After four and a half years and a number of scripts, Universal acquired the rights. Word then came that Marcus Nispel (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake) would direct and Sarah Michelle Gellar would star. Fans of the game, anticipating the movie, have been left to argue over who should direct and who should star in the film. Well..

A video interview was posted at collider.com on 11/1/07 with Dwayne Johnson and Sarah Michelle Gellar, both doing promo for the upcoming Southland Tales. At the end of the interview, the interviewer asks Gellar specifically about Alice:

We've been trying to get it made. Unfortunately, it's just been a tough one to convince the studios to make. I hope, at some point. I think it's an amazing story and I really hope so but it just depends.

Take that news for what you will. At this point, with the lack of involvement American McGee is bound to have, I think I'd rather not see the film made.
