Each year my father Harry Baulisch, a retired Lieutenant of the US Navy, visits a local school in southern Minnesota and speaks to the kids there about the meaning of Memorial Day. Every year I eagerly look forward to receiving a copy of his speech. I feel so honored to be able to read his words about how much a day like Memorial Day means to someone who saw close friends lose their lives for our freedom. I wanted to share with you a short passage of his speech this year so that we all remember both to enjoy this 3-day weekend with our loved ones, as well as to also celebrate it with remembrance and gratitude for those who have served our country and given the greatest sacrifice.

“This whole “Memorial Day” thing, was born out of conflict, born at a time when our nation had just engaged in a great civil war. Born at a time when brother fought brother and mothers lost sons on both sides. As much as we would prefer to ignore the issue of war, our nation has been immersed in war often since those days when our nation was divided and torn apart. Many of us, here today, have witnessed first-hand, the horrors of war. Many with us today, have had to fight, to suffer, and to sacrifice (to a lesser degree) in the service of our country. For those of us who came back, although we may be scarred and carrying unseen injuries, there are other days in which thanks can be offered. For, today, we remember those who did not come back. We have lost loved ones in World Wars One and Two, in Korea and Vietnam. In the deserts of Iraq and Afghanistan, our brave warriors have fallen for us. Many have fallen in the past, and more will fall tomorrow. Yes, we have lost many to armed conflict, we have lost future families, future businesses, future ‘anythings to numerous to mention’. But, today, let us mourn and remember those in the past, who gave that ultimate sacrifice so that we would have a future, a future of choice. A future that we can build for ourselves and our families. So that we, although we may struggle in our daily lives, we still enjoy freedom and liberty that no other nation can claim.

“Yes, today is Memorial Day. We can sum up our thoughts, our deeds and our actions in two words today. When you see that name on the wall, that name on a grave marker, that name in the paper program you hold in your hands. Remember two words, just two words; “thank you”. “Thank you”, is the least we can say to those heroes. “Thank you” is what we must always remember.”

“I am a mother of five kids and an ESL student. We have lost many family members over the last three years for various health reasons. I decided it was time to take my own health back. I have lost weight with e84 in the past, but I wanted to take it a step further and build muscle this time. My experience was unbelievable! I had hoped to see more results in my lower body, however, two weeks after starting my e84, I was hit with a serious injury to my foot, which made weight bearing activities nearly impossible. As a runner, I had to modify my exercise plan significantly. I could not do any kind of running, walking, jumping, or any exercise that involved “landing” on the foot which made cardio very challenging. I focussed on strength training (which was new for me). I still saw big results in my upper body and still saw differences.

“Overall, I added 4.5 ” to my arms, and an inch to my thighs. I lost 4.5 inches off my hips/waist/belly button area. More than that? I am thrilled. Despite having to quit the exercise program I loved, I was able to replace running with strength training, interval training, cycling and water running and still saw some pretty awesome changes. And, I demonstrated to my kids that injury is not an excuse for inactivity. Thank you Evolv, for helping me maintain my sanity through one of the most difficult stages of my life”

“Back in 2000 my wife and I retired from Merril Lynch. st that time we enjoyed the good life, ate good food and probably was anything but good health. I was taking medicine for my cholesterol and acid reflux. Along came 2011 and we got a call about Evolv and were offered a chance to change our health. Once our product came we took our Limitless and Shakes every day. Once we started the Limitless I was able to do more with less discomfort and the pounds were disappearing. In the beginning of my e84 I was about 205 pounds and today I run between 162-164 and am down just over 40 pounds at age 75! My range of motion and ability to work in our yard has been greatly impacted as well.”

“This is the not the first time I entered the e84 Challenge, it’s just the first time I finished it. My husband and I had separated and I had reached rock bottom. I went into a phase where I pretty much stopped taking care of myself. After several months, I was so tired, stressed and so run down that I realized at the time I needed to take care of myself the most I wasn’t.

“An additional 5 lbs later, and a trip to the store to buy a pair of bigger pants, I had a long talk with myself. Now conversations with myself happen all of the time. I work from home, and have few people I connect with regularly that are over the age of 14. But this conversation was different. This conversation was about the quiet self-pity I was indulging in for the last several months. Not the kind of self pity that one would expect by having one’s life turned upside down by something as unoriginal as her husband’s mid life crisis. Not the kind of self-pity that involves tears and vitriolic Facebook posts. I indulged in the worst kind of self-pity there is (in my opinion). Martyrdom. I had every excuse quietly on repeat in my head. I am too busy, tired, broke, etc., to continue to indulge in things like gym memberships and Evolv shakes.

“But I told myself, “self, this is your life, and it’s not awesome. No one is going to change it but you. And if you’re in control of the change, aren’t you in control of the timing?” So that was it, I realized I was being a complete idiot stuffing my head with excuses instead of motivation. I had better get a hold of myself before I turned into the crème filled donuts I was scarfing down like they were manna from heaven. I signed up for the challenge again, a little more scared than motivated, but unwilling to let fat pants take hold of my closet.

“I continued the conversations with myself over the next few months. Every time I would come up with an awesome excuse to quit, I would have to talk myself right back into staying the course. Over the course of my e84 I lost 15 pounds and renewed my strength and conviction.”
