Tiger Woods is thinking about getting married, but Lindsey Vonn has some rules. “During a heart-to-heart about their future in early May, Tiger swore he’s a changed man and told Lindsey that he wants to buy her a ring this summer,” The Enquirer’s source said. “Tiger also casually mentioned that he’d already contacted his lawyers about drawing up a prenup to protect his assets.” The 28-year-old Vonn reportedly wants half of those assets if their marriage goes belly up. Killington Resort, Greek Peak, and Homewood Mountain Resort, as well as Utah's Alta, Brighton, Snowbird, and Solitude, were recognized for helping protect the environment by incorporating various programs and projects. The National Ski Areas Association Golden Eagle Awards were presented to each resort based on the number of annual skier visits. The categories are as follows: Small resort, up to 200,000 visits; medium resort, 200,000 to 500,000 visits; large resort, more than 500,000 visits. “Ski area environmental programs have come a long way in 20 years, particularly in terms of their level of sophistication, demonstrated results, and their concerted focus on addressing climate change,” Michael Berry, NSAA’s president, says in a statement. Here’s why each resort won: Small resort: Homewood, California — “Dramatically reduced erosion through on-mountain restoration projects, including removal and restoration of nearly four miles of unpaved on-mountain roads. The ski area also brought about a 41 percent reduction in watershed sediment in just one year thanks to a new peer-reviewed stream monitoring method developed by the project team.” Medium resort (tied): Alta, Brighton, Snowbird, Solitude, Utah — “Since 2002, these four resorts have worked together in partnership with Salt Lake City and the U.S. Forest Service to support conservation projects on the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest. The resorts have also collectively donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to the Cottonwood Canyons Foundation (CCF) through participation in the National Forest Foundation’s Ski Conservation Fund. The four resorts are the primary funding mechanism for CCF, which now has an annual budget of $240,000.” Medium resort (tied): Greek Peak, New York — “The (newly constructed Hope Lake Lodge) features reclaimed lumber, efficient lighting and automated controls, heat recovery, a Variable Refrigerant Volume (VRV) heat pump system, a Direct Digital Control (DDC) building management system, condensing hot water heaters, and ozone-based laundry equipment among other green implementations. These green features have resulted in annual energy savings of about 690,000 kilowatt hours (kWh). In May 2012, Hope Lake Lodge received Platinum Rating from Audubon International’s International Green Lodging Program for its eco-efficiency and environmental performance.” Large resort: Killington, Vermont — “Killington powers its K-1 Express Gondola with electricity generated directly from cows on Vermont dairy farms through Green Mountain Power’s Cow Power program. The power comes from methane released from manure as it decomposes, helping local farms, reducing carbon dioxide emissions and ultimately helping to keep snow on the mountain. Killington also offsets 100 percent of its electricity use through the purchase RECs, which in total has resulted in emissions reductions of 66,000 tons.” The ski areas were chosen by a panel of judges including Katie Wallace, New Belgium Brewing Co.; Elysa Hammond and Ryan Mayo, Clif Bar; Tiffany Beal, International Mountain Biking Association; Jim Bedwell, U.S. Forest Service; Kirk Mills, Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment; Judy Dorsey, Brendle Group; Geraldine Link, NSAA. ...

On Monday, the California state Senate passed a bill that would require California ski resorts to prepare and post an annual safety plan on their websites. The bill, which passed 24 - 8 along party lines, would require ski resorts to prepare a report that includes information about accident-prevention efforts and operational standards. Last week a group of 60 skiers, filmers, and photographers gathered at Mount Hood, Oregon for a week of skiing at the seventh annual West Coast Session. The Session, hosted each spring at Timberline Ski Area and Windell’s Camp, is one part terrain-park training camp and one part end-of-the-season celebration, with a friendly team video contest tossed in for good measure. For some attendees, it’s a chance to relax and hang out with friends after a long winter of filming missions, photo-shoots and, competitive circuits. For others, it’s a chance for a big break—this might be the most exposure they get all season. Above all, everyone is here to have a blast enjoying the prime-time late-spring conditions on Mount Hood, and it’s this mentality that has built a small but tight-knit community of skiers that return every year for the event.

Auclair I didn't have any film commitment last week, so I took a chance and did something I had been waiting to do since last December—specifically, pack the car, go to Cham, and catch up with the characters over there. The weather wasn't looking too good, but everyone I spoke to told me to make my way and "see what happens." I also had new planks from Armada to try out so I figured, even if it was stormy, I could still go for a couple turns. Turns out I had an amazing three days. I shot all the footage from my GoPro and edited it, as well. Fresh track on the north face of the Aiguille and hot lapping Les Grands Montets. Traveling Circus cameraman Shane McFalls is a member of one of the six film teams shooting away in the parks of Mount Hood’s Timberline for Newschooler’s annual West Coast Sessions, a week-long park video shoot that serves as the casual bookend to the park ski season. And while camera technology has leapfrogged into the realm of 4K heli ball-mounted nonsense that can read people’s thoughts in super HD, McFalls is going for an entirely different aesthetic this week. While hipster film lovers may take great satisfaction in the mechanical whirring and 60’s look of cheap Super 8 cameras, Shane’s gone instead to the forgotten chapters of filmmaking history by bringing back a 1988 Panasonic VHS camera and a 2000-era VX 1000 MiniDV camera, a staple of skateboard videos. And not because the picture looks good.

If greenhouse gas emissions remain constant, what do you think winter will look like in the U.S. in 50 years? Our research has told us that by 2100, if we stay on current the emissions scenario, snow depths in the Lower 48 could decline 20 to 100 percent and the length of the season in the Northeast could be cut in half. So in 50 years, we should see shorter and wetter winter seasons, with a good chance of more of the extreme and unreliable weather we've been seeing these past few years.

I'll admit it. I didn't have high hopes for my trip to the Sawtooths. It was mid-April and the forecast in Sun Valley called for 60-degrees and rainfall. Damn the weatherman. A couple days later, I was clawing my way up the What's Up, Doc? couloir. The rain turned to snow and dumped a foot of fresh. We waded to the top of the 45-degree couloir. On a narrow ledge, we took in the countless couloirs creating lanes through the toothy range. At the top, the snow felt firm. I made short turns, keeping it tight until I reached my guide, one of the owner's of Sawtooth Mountain Guides, Chris Lundy. From there, we opened up our turns as we exited onto the creamy flanks of the couloir. Then we strapped on skins and moved on to the next one.
