When you think of settings for movies the elevator shaft doesn’t necessarily come to mind.  However, I think you will be surprised at just how many movies have incoporated the elevator shaft in the plot.  Take a look at this website to get a glimpse of some of them.

I wonder how they decided the cutoff was the 6th floor?  That’s a lot of steps everyday!  I have to admit, they certainly have a way with words.  How would you react if this sign were posted by the management of a building that you lived in?

This article posted yesterday highlights an entrepreneurial couple in our industry who recently opened a dollhouse store. I’m sure most of us have dreams of making money doing what we love, and if my hobby became as successful as Michael Zuckerman’s, I’d certainly have to consider quitting my day job. I wonder which he likes more!

The artist behind this video was asked “Why did you pick this escalator?” His response follows:

First off, I was fascinated by the hypnotic movement of the escalator; it runs all day long in the same way. I wanted to break this repetition with a kind of game and let people imagine public spaces in a different way — more funny and more creative. I like to imagine this world as a place with no rules, where you can act more freely and take life less seriously. Another reason is that I wanted to mix my passion for animation with my passion for urban installation.

So, the next time you are taking the escalator just think about this video. Maybe you will experience the ride in a whole different way. Then again, maybe not; but at least you will be thinking about the Elevator World blog!

I have a feeling some people have had a little trouble while riding this elevator.  If most people are like me then they would simply read the button, push the one that is desired and not look at the corresponding symbol.   This could also be a serious safety issue as one may push the “door open” button to hold the elevator for another passenger and in turn the door actually closes, potentially harming that person.  Let’s hope this mistake has now been fixed!

The extra cool part; the shoes are controlled by an iPhone app in which users can control the up and down motion. Now, this doesn’t fit my sense of style but vertically challenged people will never need to worry about being joked about again. Now, if they could only do something about the way you look while walking with the shoes are on!
