Am I a Female Chauvinist Pig?

My Sweet and I are recovering from another little spat. I’m doing a bit of warehouse contract work at the moment, and yesterday a young woman there asked my age. She followed up my response with, “Oh my god, you are so old! Are you married?” Umm…no. “Oh my god, you’re not married? Oh my god, but you’re so old!”

Nice.

The young woman walked away, and another woman I work with turned to me and said, “What a rude girl! To ask your age, and if you’re married. Very rude.” Of course, I came home and mentioned all this to Sweet, assuming she’d agree with me.

She didn’t.

“I don’t understand you,” she said. “You claim to be a feminist, but here you’re holding on to outdated, chauvinistic beliefs that it’s rude to ask a woman’s age. She wasn’t being rude. She was asking straightforward questions. What’s wrong with that? You’re being juvenile and anti-feminist.”

Juvenile and Anti-Feminist? Them’s fighting words! And Sweet knows very well the reaction they provoke. She knows, if there’s one way to get my dander up, it’s to question my commitment to feminism. I was pissed. Not because Sweet disagreed with me, but because…well, okay, maybe a little bit because she disagreed with me.

I don’t just call myself a radical feminist, I live that way. I’m a vocal proponent of equal rights for all. I’m rude, my mother says. She means outspoken. I don’t let things sit. When I see injustice or hear people say things that denigrate women or any other marginalized group, I say something about it.

That’s why it was such a kick in the gut for Sweet to call me anti-feminist. How dare she? But then I started thinking about one of the few fantasies I have involving Sweet that she won’t go along with: I would love to watch her cook me a steak dressed in the full June Cleaver get-up—pearls and heels and vintage housedress.

So, the question remains. Am I a Female Chauvinist Pig? I mean, I can see why Sweet might find that demeaning, but that’s not even the reason she won’t do it. For her, as a trans woman, it would feel too much like Fetish Dressing. Psychologically, she has a very strong need to separate herself from the mentality and culture of cross-dressing. She wants to be seen as a woman like any other. So, “dressing up” to satisfy any fantasy of mine—particularly in the sexual realm—is completely out of the question. And that’s fine. I understand. No June Cleaver for Giselle. I’ll live.

But my primary concern still remains. What the hell is with this retro housewife fantasy? I know I’m a feminist. And I won’t say that women or lesbians can’t be chauvinist pigs, because we certainly can—and many do—belittle other women. But I know I don’t degrade my partner. She’s awesome. Sure she whines every time she breaks a nail, but that doesn’t mean she backs away from the power tools. She can cook and do electrical work. I love that.

I think we all want to come home to a partner who understands the aggravations of the workday, who realizes our feet are aching from standing for eight hours straight, and, more than anything else, understands that we need to fell heard. I don’t need Sweet to fix me a martini and rub my feet—though, honestly, I wouldn’t say no to either—but I do have a need to hear those two magic words, “I understand.” It bothered me that she couldn’t just give me a big hug and say, “I can see that all those questions irritated you. I’m sorry you had a rough day.” Really, that sentiment is far more valuable than pearls and apron strings.

Bright Blessings,

Giselle Renarde

Ugh, what to write, what to write. I’ve started this blog over four times and I can’t figure out what to write. My muse must have decided to take an unplanned and unexpected trip. I know the weather is nice outside even if I can’t partake but come on, my muse should’ve at least stuck by my side to keep me company.

But no, she had to go out and play in the sunshine with my older two kids. So why am I sitting inside on such an unseasonally warm autumn day? That’s easy! My youngest daughter is sick. Bronchitis and an upper respiratory infection are ruling my house at the moment. Add an asthmatic child to the mix and you end up with antibiotics, steroids and every four hour treatments to forgo a trip to the emergency room and a possible hospital stay.

So what do I do to lure my muse back inside with me? Left over Halloween candy? Well that might work if I had any left but the cildren inhaled the last of it two days ago. The chocolate chip cookies I made on Wednesday are out too for the same reason. Little thieves posing as my children polished them off last night. Amazing how quickly four dozen cookies will disppear when three hungry children swarm all over the cookie jar.

So sweet treats which usually are her favorite lure are out. Perhaps a long hot shower and a few hours of peace and quiet will do the trick. But wait if she’s outside with my noisy children perhaps a hard pounding rock music is the trick. I suppose if all else fails, I can take the flogger and whip outside and force her back inside. Wish me luck!

Thanks to the Twilight Saga (which I got the kids hooked on and then bailed after book two) ours has been a house divided. Vampires vs. Werewolves.

Don’t get me wrong, I love a good vampire. The Lost Boys is one of my favorite movies, so is Fright Night and Queen of the Damned and hell, I could rattle off a slew of them. I loved Anne Rice’s vampires and followed the series all the way up to Pandora, I believe. At that point I just wanted to kill myself. I was done. But I do love vampires, truly. However…they ain’t no werewolves.

Currently, I am working on (almost done!!) a full length lycan novel. I am hopelessly, madly, deeply and wrongfully (heh) in love with my main character. So with that happening, the New Moon movie coming out right before my birthday (we will go together, kids and I on my b/d) and Halloween just having passed us, bringing a slew of bloodsuckers and lycans alike…I want to ask you: Vampires or Werewolves? What do you say? And why?

I like the whole man/beast thing of the werewolf. I like the alpha premise and the raw power and the force of the werewolf. I wouldn’t say no to snuggling up to (or writing about) a seductive forceful vampire, but the furry boys have my heart if I have to choose.

Right now our house stands thusly:

ME-lycans
GIRL CHILD - vampires (loves Edward but is seeing the potential in a buff, half naked Jacob bounding through the woods)
THE MAN-vampires (”Are you kidding me? Vampires of course.” end quote)
BOY CHILD- die hard vampire fan until…recently…he is on the fence.

Come to the wolf side, boy. We have cookies.

And you?

xoxo
Sommer

When I think about the many things that inspire me, film is quite far down the list, but it’s an important one. I’ve only ever written one story that was directly inspired by a movie and that was because the story I saw didn’t go where I wanted it to, so I created my own version. That was fun! Mostly when I think about films and inspiration, its classic art house movies about character and desire — sexy films that make me think and make me consider what desire does to people, and why.

The first batch of sexy art house films that I saw included Nine and a Half Weeks, Wild Orchid, and Two Moon Junction. These were very much about women and sexual liberation, women exploring and discovering themselves. Although they aren’t as sophisticated as I like to remember, (on more recent viewing,) they came at a great time for me as I learnt about my own sexuality. What came after was probably even more important for my erotic writing. Here are just a few examples.

One of the character types I love when it comes to erotic films is the femme fatale. Movies like Body Heat, The Last Seduction and Something Wild, depict women who are sure of their sexuality and use it to get what they want. These are incredibly sexy icons and films I can watch over and again.

The first ménage a trois film I saw was Rita, Sue and Bob too. It’s a down to earth and gritty British film – realistic, and at the same time enormous fun. This film had a profound influence on me because it made me think about the physical and emotional dynamics of threesome relationships, and the fact that friendship, affection and a good sense of humour can go a long way.

Henry and June is a film I treasure because (like many women) Anais Nin was the first female erotic writer I read, and it was such a liberation. This film captures so much of what Anais Nin was about.

Stories about sexual obsession fascinate me too. Damage is a classic example. Even though you know it’s going to end badly, the sexual attraction is palpable, the affair inescapable. Another one that I adore is Captives. This one is all about anticipation and sexual tension. The story is about an affair between a prisoner and a female dentist who attends him. Yeah, she puts her fingers in his mouth, a lot… He runs his fingers up and down her thigh while she does so… Oh, the forbidden desire, the longing! I haven’t seen it in a while but I do believe this one was particularly important for my writing. It made me think about the importance of anticipation and the build-up of sexual tension.

I expect you might have noticed that these are mostly 80s and 90s films. I’m showing my age here… So what have I forgotten, and even more importantly – what I missed? Let me know your favourites!

Orgasm. I love that word. You should too. After all it feels fantastic. Doesn’t it?

What do we know about orgasms? Not a lot. We know it makes us feel absolutely out of this world, and we’re disappointed if we don’t have at least one during sex, but other than that, not much.

Unfortunately the feeling lasts a ridiculously short period of time. There’s not a lot of data on this, but I’m guessing an orgasm lasts seven to fifteen seconds.

Seven to Fifteen seconds? All that work for seven to fifteen seconds of bliss. For the men it’s dressing up, ninety-seven dollars plus tip at a fancy restaurant, Sixty dollars plus tip at a cocktail lounge, not to mention the gas and flowers, all for say ten stinking seconds. Christ that’s about a seventy-two thousand dollars per hour. For ten seconds. Even Michael Jordan might have trouble matching that.

It’s not free for the women either. Beauty shop, manicure, pedicure, new dress? Sexy four inch heels? Sensuous lingerie to be removed at the propitious moment? You figure that one out girls. All for ten seconds. (assuming the lady doesn’t have multiple moments of ecstasy)

It’s a good thing it feels good getting to the orgasm, too or we might be extinct.

Anyway back to my word—Orgasm. I think it sounds sexy. How about you? It’s sexy, feels great and that’s why you have sex, right?

Maybe not. Some of you—women more than men—may have sex for other reasons and some not at all. While researching this article I came across some disturbing statistics.

For instance, 70% of women have never had an orgasm with a man. Hmmm. How can that be? Female partners? Vibrators? Fingers? Nothing at all? You tell me. On top of that 48% of women have faked an orgasm. In addition, 25% of men will get turned down by their own lovers over half the time. Their partners apparently think sex is a chore. Maybe, just maybe that’s why so many men stray. Women too, because it’s obvious there’s problems on both sides.

More Facts

Average length of time it takes a woman to have an orgasm: 20 minutes. Average length of time it takes a man: 2-5 minutes.
Half of girls have had an orgasm by the time they’re 16 years old.
44% of men say their female partners always have orgasms when they have sex. 22% of women say they always have orgasms when they have sex.

About 1% of women are able to achieve orgasm solely through breast stimulation.
63% of college women say they’ve had multiple orgasms.

Anatomically, all women’s orgasms arc centered in the clitoris, whether they result from direct manual pressure applied to the clitoris, indirect pressure resulting from the thrusting of penis during intercourse.

Women are naturally multi-orgasmic and most women are capable, if she is immediately stimulated following orgasm, is likely to experience several orgasms in rapid succession.

Although women’s orgasms do not vary in kind, they vary in intensity. The most intense orgasms experienced by the research subjects were by masturbatory manual stimulation, followed in intensity by manual stimulation by the partner; the least intense orgasms wore experienced during intercourse. What? Blah!

Now, tell me ladies and gents (if there are any out there) Would you have sex more often if you could have longer orgasms? I know I would?” Tell me if you would, if you could experience longer orgasms what would be your ideal length? Thirty seconds, one minute, two minutes, five minutes? More? Get serious. You’d be catatonic after five minutes. I deciced two minutes would be ideal. That’s about ten times the length of the average Or-r-r-r-r-r-gasm, Wouldn’t that be a gas?

That’s why I started to write a story called the Two Minute Orgasm. Watch for it!

Also watch for my sexy new book coming out in two weeks, November 16th, The Big Bamboo – Separate Vacations.

As I’ve grown older, I’ve begun to see my birth as kind of a fulcrum, or a pinion point. My body has moved forward in time, but my tastes have headed just as far back, if not further. I actually miss things I never experienced.

I was born in the perfect year for a writer of erotica, ’69. Within months of my birth, The Beatles were officially no more (I claim no responsibility). There are some artists I like more on a sentimental level, but I place no-one higher in the popular musical echelon than The Beatles, even though, to all intents and purposes, as a group they did nothing in my lifetime.

I have long felt that I was born too late. Perhaps it’s because my adolescent years all occurred during the eighties, when the sixties were placed on a pedestal so high that even LSD wouldn’t get you there. I feel like the sixties would have been my time.

Lately, though, I’m stretching back even further. Back to the times of Benny Goodman, Louis Armstrong and Scott Joplin. The times of Ava Gardner, Myrna Loy and Rita Hayworth, of Gene Kelly, James Stewart and Cary Grant.

Back to a time when writers, at least screenwriters, had to work without many of the liberties we enjoy, or even take for granted, these days. No foul language, nothing too graphic or challenging. The best writers found ways to work within, or even circumvent those strictures, and they elevated any readers, watchers and listeners who went along for the ride.

Now I’m certainly not a fan of suppression, nor do I embrace people covering their ears and eyes and chanting “la la la la la” to themselves (metaphorically speaking). What I am a fan of, though, is thought.

From all I’ve seen on the eXcessica site, from all I’ve read of my fellow authors, there is a fine mix of liberal language and thoughtful, sometimes tangential, coyness. It’s a nice place to be, and I’m grateful to have been included.

Everyone loves the free sweet treats on Halloween, so I am giving away my own kind of treat this year in the form of Free Erotic Short Stories! Just come knocking on my door by sending an email to howell (dot) kiki (at) gmail (dot) com and say Trick or Treat in the Subject Line of the email. ~You will hear evil laughter in the background~ Then, choose a story from my treat bowl that you would like to put into your bag by writing one of the following choices in the message area of the email: A Witch Story, A Ghost Story or A Vampire Story. I will then put a treat into your bag by replying to your email with the eBook you chose. Offer ends at midnight on October 31st, 2009.

Notes: All stories will be paranormal erotic romances. The ghost story has a rural, contemporary setting with the ghost of a dead witch in it; where The Vampire Story, is a gothic tale set in Regency England! The Witch Story will be one of my choosing depending upon how impressed I am with your costume when you come knocking upon my door! ~Again with the evil laughter~

Happy Halloween!

The flu outbreak has me thinking about Sick Sex.

Not sick as in disturbing but sick as in boogers, fevers, and body aches. Let’s face it, if a cold is lingering or being passed back and forth between you and your partner, sooner or later you’re going to have to have Sick Sex.

I define Sick Sex as doing the deed without breathing on each other or being face to face at all. It’s gentle due to the body aches and not very long lasting or creative.

Usually Sick Sex is pretty pathetic and merely pacifies the participants until they feel better. Sick Sex is often followed by Wet, Sloppy Sex or I’m Going to Fuck the Shit Out of You Sex. T

his got me thinking about all the titles given to the act of having sex. Here are a few off the top of my head:

Loud Sex – which is also called: Kids are at Grandma’s Sex or Kitchen Counter Sex

Quickie – yep, we know this one

Naughty Quickie – this can happen in the bathroom during a boring dinner party

Lazy Sex – slow and wonderful

Ok – the ones I listed are pretty common. I’m pretty sure you all have some great types and titles of your own. Let’s see what you’ve got.
