Subukia Nursery School

Look at what God has done! New hope is rising in Subukia – the hope that education brings. Because of a generous donor, 15 lovely children now attend nursery school! Without a nursery school education, children may not enter primary school and without primary school, there is no secondary high school education. Little beginnings truly make a big difference in the life of a child. Through our partnership with community leaders, families are being transformed from a life of scarcity to having what they need to thrive. The future of Subukia is certainly looking much brighter!

April 2018 Medical Outreach

Last month, EI Africa partnered with PEFA Church and the PEFA Mercy Medical Center to host a 3-day medical clinic in the community of Bloomhill, Kenya. Four team members from the US joined EI Africa staff and local pastors and volunteers to offer free medical services to over 600 patients and eyeglasses to 190. What a blessing to be able to offer the gift of sight!

Beyond Zero, a Kenyan organization joined the medical outreach by offering free cancer screenings. We love partnering with others that share our passion to serve others with excellent medical care.

The clinic began each day with worship and a reading from the Bible and many received prayer. God’s Spirit was definitely at work in many hearts. Because of it, 41 people dedicated their lives to Christ! What an amazing testimony of God’s love moving in and through His people at the Bloomhill clinic.

2018 Scholarship Conference

This past April, Expansion International Africa held its 6^thAnnual High School Student Scholarship Conference in Kenya. It was the largest conference yet, with 127 scholarship students in attendance. This year’s theme was Prepare for Action, taken from I Peter 1:13-16.

Four amazing servants from the U.S. spoke at this year’s conference. They shared about the importance of being people of character and integrity while living a life set apart for God. Guest speakers from around Kenya shared about important topics such as relationships and peer pressure, self-awareness, stress management and coping with challenges, and self-discipline for academic excellence.

It was a fun time filled with singing, dancing, devotions, teaching, and games. The students were open and eager to learn, grow, and make new friendships.

“It has been encouraging to see the young people in the scholarship conference grow each year in confidence regarding who God has called them to be and the dreams He has placed in their hearts. We are so excited to see God continue to move in the student’s lives,” shares Danielle Moceri. “Thanks to all of you who sponsor a scholarship student. They look forward to this event every year.”

Arlene transitions to Vice President

We are excited to share that Arlene, formerly EI’s Director, is now the Vice President of our Board of Directors. She will gradually transition as she passes the torch to our new Executive Director, Lauren.

EI would not be what it is today without Arlene’s gracious and diligent commitment to serving others – both here and in Kenya.

Arlene, you truly are an inspiration to us all, and we thank you for all you continue to do for Expansion International. We wish you all the best as you attempt to retire (again)!

Come Support Our Mission Team

Our June mission team is having a work night on Tuesday, May 1st at 7:00 pm and we are looking for volunteers to help! The team will be putting together 2,000 children’s ministry packets and organizing medical and other supplies for their trip. They have a lot to get done and need your help!

We will be meeting in the teen center at Eagle Nazarene Church, and snacks will be provided. Come support our mission team by helping them prepare for their trip. Anyone is welcome! No need to RSVP but if you want more information contact us at info@expansioninternational.org.

A Message from our New Director

What an honor it is to join this beautiful community called Expansion International as its new Executive Director; I’ve been so impressed by you all. I had the opportunity to meet many of you at the Build Hope dinner in early April – thank you for welcoming my family and me so graciously. To be part of a people that God brings together to impact precious lives of others through the love of Christ is one of my greatest joys.

Christ-centered, Kingdom minded work is something God birthed in me shortly after my first husband passed away. In 1991, my five young children and I left for YWAM (Youth With A Mission) in Kona, Hawaii with the hope of establishing our “new” family in a strong tradition of serving the Lord. It was there that the Lord planted seeds of service to the poor in my heart, but what could I do? I had my very own little mission field to tend to.

After returning home, I volunteered at my local church, and as my children grew, time opened up for more volunteer opportunities. Once I married my husband Dan, we started supporting children in India. I was blessed to meet young Lalitha there in 2001 on a mission trip. When I returned, Dan and I decided to do as much as we could for the children, their caregivers, and pastors; the need was so great. I served as administrator for the mission work out of my home church for many years until 2015. What a privilege! Now I’ve been given the opportunity to serve Expansion International and I’m looking forward to all that God has planned for us to do together in the coming years.

Our Build Hope Dinner Was a Great Success!

Join with us as we praise God for His presence with us at this year’s Build Hope Dinner. Friendships were rekindled, new ones made, and our E.I. community grew. Our annual event was blessed with 20% new attendees!

We want to thank all of you who donated both silent and live auction items. Many walked away with some amazing gifts while helping to raise money for the Expansion International.

Bill Downs and family really helped us laugh and mix it up; taking our total for the evening to new heights with his skill as a fun and effective auctioneer.

After hearing that the community leaders of Magumu had been praying for 30 years for access to medical care in their region, our hearts were impacted and you all gave so generously. Over $115,000 was raised that evening with $87,000 specified for the construction of the Magumu Medical Clinic. We rejoice that the people of Magumu will see the clinic break ground in late June – a full four months ahead of our plans. Isn’t God so very good?

Thank you for being a part of this world changing community called E.I. As we were reminded by Danielle, YOU are Expansion International and we get to do this together. We’re grateful for you.

Expansion Int’l USA Welcomes Stephanie!

We would like to welcome Expansion International USA’s newest employee, Stephanie Gunnerson.

Stephanie is joining us as our Marketing and Communications Coordinator. She has a bachelor’s in Mass Communication/Film Studies from Olivet Nazarene University and a Master of Communication degree from The University of Akron. She has experience in film production, social media marketing, and teaching/training.

Stephanie grew up in Ohio, but she and her husband have moved several times in the last few years, most recently living in Fresno, CA before moving to Boise in October of 2017. They have been married for four years and have three sons under three (and yes, they’re busy and they love it!).

We are blessed to see God’s answer to our prayer to fill this position. Stephanie has already had a big impact in the last month as she has risen to the challenges presented to her and we’re excited to have her on the team!
