At a recent conference I attended the topic of HTML5 came up at a Q&A session with Andy Budd, John Resig, Jonathan Snook, Joe Stump and Dustin Diaz. The conversation quickly changed from the general topic of HTML5 and more specifically what is being called HTML5 these days. The term HTML5 is currently being used as an umbrella term for a bunch of new and emerging standards and API’s. Generally I do not think that is a bad thing.

As was ...

Following on from my introduction to HTML5 article today I want to look at two new tags introduced in HTML5 namely, audio and video. While it does not sound like much, these two new additions is changing the way we think about multimedia on thew web. Previously if the topic of multimedia on the web came up there was a few technologies that came to mind, most notable Flash. Flash is the dominating force on the web when it comes to bringing ...

There exists no doubt that WordPress is one of the, if not the, best blogging platform available today. Some people would even go so far as to say that it is one of the best general purpose content management systems. Whichever way you look at it or, what ever the purpose is when using WordPress, the fact remains, you want to provide the absolute best experience for yourself and your users.

WordPress is great straight out of the box, so to ...

I am currently reading the MEAP of John Resig’s (@jeresig) Secrets of the JavaScript Ninja and one of the things that many beginners and even intermediate JavaScript developers do not understand completely, is the different ways in which functions can be defined and how scope differs depending on how you defined your function.

It is absolutely essential to grasp this concept as it opens many doors for the developer once this is understood. Whilst reading the above title I myself finally ...

Over the last couple of weeks I have been presenting talks over at my day job covering different aspects of HTML5. The information has proved useful to my colleagues and I decided to put them on my blog to share them with everyone and hopefully help get you started and excited about the future of HTML.

In this article I will talk about where HTML came from, how it has evolved and how we got to where we are now. I will also ...
