And what an excellent year it's been. Been to a lot of cool events and seen a lot of cool things, not just in the Bay Area, but all over! And the best part was: NO SNOW!

I celebrated by having a normal day at work, buying cat food, finishing Week 8 Day 3 of C25K and then losing my voice.

Not having a voice is so frustrating. Rich keeps asking me questions and then following my response up with "What?" I can't friggen talk! Stahp!

I swear if I'm getting sick right before my Myrtle Beach trip I will be so gotdanged angry. Not to mention that I'm already a bit miffed that my trip isn't going to be as warm as I'd hoped. I planned the trip in May figuring that it would be about 80-85 and not be too deathly hot like the 95+ weather that normally happens in June/July/August. Instead they're experiencing some weird freak spring and it's ten degrees below the average.

The hell.

So basically I'm leaving San Francisco temps to go to...San Francisco temps. Got. Dang. It. Maybe that 10 day forecast will start to look up. If not then at least I'll still get to see my friends and family!

Disneyland!

This past weekend I treated Rich to a Disneyland trip for his 30th birthday! He's been plenty of times, and even used to have an annual pass, but this was only my second time going. I've been to Walt Disney World a good few times before too. My first trip to Disneyland was the day after Blizzcon in 2011 with Cathy and we only had a few hours to spend there before our flight, so this weekend was like my first real Disneyland trip.

We flew into Orange County late on Friday night, checked into our hotel and grabbed a quick bite to eat at The Cheesecake Factory down the street in the Anaheim GardenWalk before heading back to the hotel and sleeping.

We were going to get up super early, but after finding out that the friends we were meeting up with didn't get in till 3am and were sleeping in a bit, we decided to do the same. When we did get up around 9:30ish we decided to continue with our Couch-to-5k schedule and do our Day 1 run around the GardenWalk block. It was pretty rough, but we finished it, headed back to the hotel, showered up and headed to Disneyland!

I'd never been to California Adventure before, and we spent most of our first day there. Wandered around and scouted the place out a bit before meeting up with our friends and having an amazing lunch at Carthay Circle Restaurant. Now, I didn't know this, but you can buy alcohol at a lot of places in California Adventure and even walk around with it in the park, but in Disneyland there's only one exclusive place, Club 33, that you can get alcohol. This place apparently has amazing cocktails, but I opted for a beer instead. Also, if you ever go there be sure to check with the bar downstairs to watch how they make their perfectly round ice...spheres that they put in the drinks. So. Friggen. Cool. I regret not making a video of it!

We rode most everything that we could in California Adventure that day. Tower of Terror, Radiator Springs Racers, The Little Mermaid ride, The Bugs Life Show, Muppets 3D theater, Midway Mania, probably more that I forgot. We did miss out on California Screamin' since it closes when they start doing World of Color at night, plus our friends weren't going to be around the next day, and Rich doesn't like roller coasters, but there's always next time.

I'm on the left, is that a good score for my first time doing Midway Mania?

We headed over to Disneyland later in the day to ride Indiana Jones and Pirates before going to Blue Bayou for the dinner reservations we had made there and then headed back to California Adventure for World of Color!

California Adventure closes an hour earlier than Disneyland on weekends, so back to Disneyland we went, where we mostly just wasted time walking around and window shopping and eating Dole Whip. We did get to ride/play Astro Blasters, which I have to say I like a lot more than Midway Mania. Oh, and played Fix It Felix Jr.!

Back to the hotel, so much walking, so much sunshine, and so tired, especially after running that morning. Rich didn't even make it under the covers at first. He just fell asleep after laying down on the bed!

Original plan was to run again on Sunday, but there was no way in hell we were doing that. Slept in a bit more on Sunday before getting ready and heading back for another day, this time just the two of us really. First order of business was get a FastPass for Indiana Jones, which was probably my favorite ride of the weekend, before heading straight to Big Thunder Ranch BBQ for an early lunch.

So, I really love roller coasters, and I already explained that we missed out on California Screamin', but Rich will actually do Thunder Mountain and Space Mountain since they don't go upside-down Unfortunately, Thunder Mountain is closed for renovations until October and Space Mountain is closed due to a safety review. Bah. Next time next time next time. Luckily I knocked out Space Mountain and Matterhorn on my previous trip (and Space Mountain and Thunder Mountain in Disney World too!)

Sunday also consisted of lots of shopping, and I finally found a pair of mouse ears for myself! Tried to find some for Rich too, but didn't find any good fits. I think I might just buy mouse ears and a new black cap for him and sew the ears on.

Checked out the Iron Man exhibit at Innoventions, which was really just all the Iron Man suits lined up. Not as cool as we'd hoped.

We met up with Rich's parents for an early dinner in Downtown Disney, headed back to the hotel to drop a few things off and change into warmer clothes for the evening, then back to the park for a delicious dessert of ice cream! Nom! Butter Pecan is seriously such an under appreciated ice cream flavor!

Now off to ride more rides and do more shopping! We decided to go to the later showing of Fantasmic since it was after the fireworks and we figured it would be less crowded. We went back to play more Astro Blasters so I could try and get a better score. I don't think I did too bad for only being my second time playing ever!

Hopped on a quick ride of Star Tours before going back to the Fantasmic viewing area and managing to score a pretty sweet spot to sit! I was too entertained to think of taking any pictures of it though!

I can't decide if I like World of Color or Fantasmic more. World of Color is so beautiful, but the opening/ending song is kinda lame, where Fantasmic I felt had better original music and I loved the cast presence in the show.

Bought another thing of ice cream and started the trek back to the hotel.

We only bought a two day park hopper pass, so Monday was pretty relaxed compared to the previous days. We slept in before checking out of the hotel and went to wander around Downtown Disney all day (and buy more stuff, I got a plush Scar!) before heading to the airport and finally back home.

Was an excellent trip and I'm super excited to go back sometime soon, partially for rides, but mainly so I have another reason to wear my awesome mouse ears!

Back with my laptop in my spot on the couch, my cat stepping all over my keyboard while trying to lay on my lap.

I would do a Disneyland trip recap tonight, but I don't think twenty minutes is enough time to finish it up, and it would be silly to fail BEDA when tomorrow is the last day. So expect a post all about that coming tomorrow!

I know I say this all the time, but I'm really going to try and keep updating my blog more often. I know I don't always have interesting things to blog about, but who cares right? It's my blog, I'll write about all the pointless shit that I want! I feel it's better to write up a few boring things than not write at all. Hell, sometiems you even type something up thinking nothing of it, but then having more feedback on it than you expected. That Nintendo post was something that had been bouncing around in my head for a while and the pressure of BEDA just finally made me write it up! And people liked it!

Will I try BEDA again when it rolls around in August? Assuming I remember to start it up on August 1st I believe I will! Actually, I think I'll go set a calendar reminder right now!

It's dangerous to go alone!
It's been a crazy fun, busy day here in Anaheim, CA and while I'd love to write up a whole post about it...I can't because it's not even done yet! The park doesn't close till midnight and I imagine we'll be staying until that point, so this is the best I can do for a post today! I refuse to fail this far into BEDA!

For now, just have a picture from World of Color!

The last couple months I swear this game has been everywhere. From an ad/bug on the IGN boards that would redirect my phone to the iTunes store for this game, to the GDC lanyards, to ads on the sides of buses and on TV. I've seen friends not only update Facebook about the game but actually Instagram screenshots of it.

Then I got the following texts on Monday:

Oh, alright, fine. I'll try the stupid game.

Ever played Bejeweled? It's basically Bejeweled. You match three candies of the same color and they disappear. You get power-up candies if you match four or five candies of the same color! So innovative!

It does have some different game modes. So far I've seen the standard timed mode, where you have to get a certain amount of points in a certain amount of time. The Jelly Remove mode which requires you to make candy matches in certain areas to...well...remove the jelly. And the Get Ingredient mode where the game gives you certain special pieces that you have to get to the bottom of the level. For each mode other than timed you have a set number of moves you can do. If you finish the goal before using up all your moves the game kind of starts playing itself in a bonus round, racking you up more points. After finishing a level you get a star rank based on how many points you got overall, ranging from one to three stars.

And here's where the game loses its charm.

If you fail a level, you lose a life. Yes, failing to match candies apparently kills you in this game. Once you run out of lives you can either wait 30 minutes for a new life or pay $.99 for a new life! Or, if you haven't already, you can connect your Facebook account for a one time increase in lives.

At first I was having fun with the game, getting three stars on each level in campaign mode like the perfectionist that I am. Then around level 23 I hit a wall and before I knew it I was spending more time waiting to play the game than actually playing it. Hell, I even gave up on trying to three-star levels at this point and I've actually been stuck on level 29 for two days now. The game doesn't seem to have a zen mode that I can see, so it's either keep replaying the same level and then waiting for new lives over and over or just stop playing all together.

If you liked Bejeweled, and especially if you wish it had been more challenging, I'd recommend Candy Crush Saga. If you weren't a big fan of Bejeweled probably stay away.

As for me, I'll more than likely be uninstalling this game and returning my mobile gaming time to Pocket Planes.

Procrastinating

I'm super procrastinating tonight.

Procrastinating with writing this blog post. I really wanted to follow up yesterday's post with another strong post, but I'm lacking enthusiasm and a topic.

Procrastinating with doing my 30 minutes of yoga. I told myself every day that I don't run that I'll do yoga instead. Usually Thursdays are the night we do an extra day of running (since C25K is only 3 days a week and we do Sat, Sun, Tues), but we bailed on doing that extra day...so I need to do yoga.

Procrastinating on finishing packing for Disneyland. I mean...it's mostly done, but I know there's more that needs to be gathered and compiled.

Procrastinating on setting up my dresser and putting away all my clothes...still. It's been a month since I moved in with Rich and my dresser still has two drawers and three giant trash bags full of clothes sitting in the garage.

Procrastinating going to bed because I still have to do yoga AND an episode I've never seen of Chopped just came on.

Can I do yoga and watch TV at the same time?

Let's talk a little more about Nintendo.

This is a company I used to love, used to revere. I was a proud Nintendo fangirl. My console collection actually started only as a Nintendo collection, because I wanted to have everything, needed to have everything that they did. They could do no wrong.

I was also young and naive.

And now here I am watching a company I used to love turn into a company I'm starting to hate. And it's not hate because they're a terrible company, it's hate because I feel like they're running themselves into the ground and don't see it, that they don't understand why. It's like watching a close friend slowly ruining their life and distancing yourself from them because it hurts too much to watch and there's nothing you can do. But, as I've learned, this isn't Nintendo's first dismal console release, it isn't even their second. They'll probably pull out of it, but just barely, only after some price slashes and major name releases.

They posted their earnings around midnight PST last night (sometime midday in Japan) and reported an operating loss $366 million dollar ($36.4 billion yen) loss. While they did post an overall net profit, having the operating loss means that they did not make the profit from day-to-day operations, and instead it can be attributed to currency value changes and investments. They also did a weird little restructure. Moving the CEO of Nintendo of America (NOA) into a general manager position at Nintendo Co. Ltd (NCL) and making the current President of NCL, Satoru Iwata, also the CEO of NOA. Enough acronyms for you?

I'm hoping this change brings more parity between Japan and NA for Nintendo products and software (hint: 3DS XL colors! And I guess bring some Japan exclusives over). I'm wondering if maybe this restructure was made to not only help boost western sales and western developer relations, but also to add some more accountability onto Iwata for the dismal sales in North America.

Whatever the reason, reading on Reddit and Neogaf today gave me a few laughs. So many other people hoping that the change ends up bringing us some new 3DS XL colors. I'm sure that's the last thing on Iwata's mind though.

But that's not all the Nintendo news!

They also announced they will not be doing a big press conference at E3 this year.

Say whaaaat. Nintendo's E3 press conference has been the highlight of E3 for me since I knew what E3 was. Nintendo is the main reason going to E3 has been such a big goal of mine. And here I am, FINALLY going to E3 and...it's the E3 they're not doing any big announcements at.

I suppose it only makes sense, with the rising popularity of their Nintendo Directs, but still it's pretty disappointing. Especially since I'm actually going to E3 this year, but I wouldn't have been able to get into the conference anyway. As long as they at least have a booth I'll be happy.

Maybe this will be the year they turn things around...

3DS XL Colors or Why, Nintendo, Why?

I want a 3DS XL. Ever since the moment Rich first brought one home, and I held it in my hands and saw those bright, big, beautiful screens with my own eyes, I've wanted one. However, I didn't care for any of the colors being released in North America (NA) at launch due to their awkward, two-toned look. So, since Nintendo has a reputation for doing a lot of colors, I decided to wait it out. I mean, an all white system was out in Japan, it surely would only be a matter of time till they released it (maybe only as a limited edition) over here.

But it's been months, and every month it seems either Japan or Europe is getting a new color. And sure, we've gotten a couple new options too, but none that I particularly care for. I keep wanting to cave and just buy a color I don't like, but I just have this horrible, nagging feeling that if I cave and buy one then suddenly they'll announce a new color.

Ever since the announcement of the hot pink 3DS XL for Europe I've been going slightly nuts trying to figure out how I can get a 3DS XL in a color I want.

I'm actually considering importing one of these hot pink ones, buying a used NA 3DS XL and then doing a shell swap. I mean, I've customized controllers before, how difficult could it be? Plus, since NA has a pink/white option already, I doubt they'll bring this one over.

I've also started searching all over for replacement XL shell pieces. At least if there was some way to get a hold of the top and bottom pieces to a white or black 3DS XL (without having to import a whole system) I could go and buy one of the current US colors, replace those pieces and then have either a solid white or solid black. And all without having to mess with any electronic innards!

You know what else would be awesome? Nintendo either dropping the region-locked bullshit (hahaahah not happening) or SHARING SOME GOTDANGED COLORS WITH NA.

Let's review a list of the colors as they currently stand for each region:

NA:
- Blue/Black
- Red/Black
- Pink/White
- Pikachu
- Animal Crossing

Europe:
- White
- Black
- Pink
- Blue/Black
- Red/Black
- Silver/Black
- Pikachu
- Fire Emblem
- Animal Crossing

Japan:
- White
- Black
- Blue/Black
- Red/Black
- Silver/Black
- Pink/White
- Mint/White
- Charizard
- Pikachu
- Animal Crossing
- Luigi
- Red Super Mario Bros.
- Super Robot Taisen UX
- Culdcept
- Shin Megami Tensei IV
- Disney Magic Castle
- Tomodachi Collection

Come on, Nintendo. I know you claim that white systems don't sell (despite you making the base Wii U system white...or wait, was that a ploy to get us all to buy the Deluxe System? And what about Wii or the original DS Lite?) but at LEAST give us the solid black 3DS XL. That's all I want. A solid color.

And as of yesterday, I want that hot pink. Gimme.
I know it's only about 45 minutes until his birthday is over, but hey, some effort of a birthday blog post is better than none!

Started his birthday off by...going to bed around midnight! I tried to send him a happy birthday tweet exactly at midnight (while also being right next to him) but ended up typoing and having to delete and resend. Boo. At least he though it was funny.

Then came a normal day of work for the two of us...

And then his birthday dinner! Fourteen of us got together and went to Buca di Beppo's in downtown San Francisco for Rich's 30th! We ordered a metric crapton of food to share family style between all of us and there was much laughter and even some singing (which Rich was not amused by).

Still to come is our trip down to Disneyland this weekend for his birthday, since we couldn't do it this past weekend due to short notice and needing to ask a day off work each.

Happy Birthday, babe!
I've got to write a fucking blog post."

With only 9 more days left to go it seems like it would be a pretty shitty time to just give up after 20 days of consecutive posting for this year's BEDA.

This weekend consisted of running and lazing. Knocked out day 1 and day 2 of C25K's Week 7. I might be running slower than the previous weeks, but I'm running longer and not finding myself horribly out of breath afterwards. I can run 25 consecutive minutes at a time! And I'm pretty positive I can handle more! That's a first.

It's also been beautiful, warm and sunny here in SF this weekend, which has given me quite a farmer's tan from running. So after running I've been trying to lay out on the back porch and even up these racerback top tanlines I've got going on. I've made a little bit of progress, but I'm pretty sure I'm still going to look slightly ridiculous in tank tops and strapless dresses for Disneyland and my Myrtle trip.

I hit my goal weight of 120lbs last weekend, but decided to keep MyFitnessPal on "lose .5 pounds a week" for a mental buffer, I guess. You know, with how weight fluctuates and all. I think that since tomorrow starts a new week (and since I measured at 119.5lbs yesterday) that it's time I finally switch it to "maintain my current weight." Will be nice to get those 300ish extra calories back right before my two trips. Although I might find it hard to adjust, because I still keep finding myself under my daily calorie limit as it is. I guess as long as I don't fill the void with crap it'll be alright.

Cups of tea had: 2 I think, maybe 3?

The game only starts out with one bachelor, Neil, and the others won't be available until you build the correct building that the character will eventually reside in. Some of these buildings won't unlock until you've completed other tasks. Basically, getting the right guy might take a while.

Neil was cute, but I didn't like his personality. But, I started wooing him anyway since he was the only guy available at the time. He was standoffish and mean, always telling me to leave him alone and such, so I was over joyed when the hairstylist, Allen, finally moved in. I ended up reviewing the rest of the bachleors on Fogu.com, and decided that Rod looked too young and Soseki came off as a little strange (and Amir and Sanjay would take far too long to get into the village).

Thus I began my pursuit of Allen.

A New Beginning is the first game in the series to introduce the concept of dating into the games. Whereas previous games had you go straight from wooing to marriage, this game requires you two officially "go steady" before you can give that special someone a blue feather. This is easily done by purchasing a commitment ring and having the bachelor's heart color blue or above. Or, if you'd like a challenge, you can get a reverse proposal (which, oddly enough, still requires YOU to buy the ring) by giving the bachelor at least a hundred gifts, and you can only give one gift a day.

So I found Allen sweet, his teasing sweet, so I decided to put in the effort and go for the reverse dating and reverse marriage proposals.

And that's where things went sour.

The reverse dating proposal went off without a hitch, but now my sweetie is being a huge dick. He's saying things like "Listen, what's yours is mine. And what's mine is mine. What... that's unfair? Sooner or later, that's the only way you'll want it to be." or when I see him in the forest something along the lines of "Oh that's cute you want to be near me, I guess I'll let you stay by my side for a little."

Suddenly, I don't like him all that much anymore, and find myself wishing I had gone for a different bachelor.

And here is where my dilemma comes in. I can either push forward and give him the last 50 gifts (will take about 50 in-game days to do) to get the reverse marriage proposal...or break up. And breaking up, as in real life, is hard. First I have to drop his heart color from red back down to purple or black, which requires me to give him gifts he hates once a day and do other things to make him hate me like trying to propose to other bachelors. THEN I have to not talk to him AT ALL for 31 in game days (who the waits that long to break up with someone not talking to them?!), at which point I can finally trigger the breakup scene.

And then I'll have to work on redoing all the wooing over again with a new guy.

So this is where I'm stuck. Do I go for that reverse marriage proposal with Allen? Do I go for the breakup and find a new guy? Do I then try and go for the reverse proposals with the new guy?

BEDA Day 19

I don't even know where today went. Fell into a coding hole today and, before I knew it, it was past 5pm and time to go home. Finally finished up a test script that had been giving me problems the past two days. Pretty pleased about that, also feeling better about my atrophied coding abilities.

Haven't been for a run in three days now, I hate it! I want to go running! Week 7 starts tomorrow with 25 minutes straight of running. Absolutely cannot wait to start, even though I'm still a little worried that I won't be able to do it. Which seems silly since I've done 20 minutes twice and 22 minutes twice and haven't failed either time.

Still need to do some yoga tonight since I'm determined to try and put in at least 30 minutes on every day I don't run. I tried a 15 minute intermediate class on Yoga Studio yesterday and holy crap was it hard. I'm definitely still feeling it today in some places, but it feels good to be pushing myself. Can only get better from here.

The weather this weekend is supposed to be amazing too, I'm really hoping it'll be nice enough to lay out on the back porch and get some color. I'd really like to get my annual PMLE breakout over with now rather than when I'm back in Myrtle Beach.

Suppose I should get up and do that yoga now, before I end up putting it off for the night!

Times snooze hit today: 2 but I got up before the second one went off
Cups of tea had: 4, possible 5th on the way
Cups of water had: 9+

We went to a southern restaurant downtown and had some beers and food. I got the pulled pork sandwich, which was pretty good. The side of chips was kinda bland though, and my pickle slice was absolutely minuscule. I also ordered a side of hushpuppies and...we either didn't get our them or this place honestly thinks that cornbread = hushpuppies, cause what we got were just mini cornbread muffins. They were good, but I mean...they weren't hushpuppies. Rich has never had a proper hushpuppy so I'm looking forward to introducing them to him when we visit Myrtle Beach next month.

Almost went running again today, but ended up not since Rich ended up not eating all day post-breakfast. Plus, we should probably take a few rest days since we ran on Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday and we'll be running again on both Saturday and Sunday. Did some yoga instead and tried out my first intermediate class on my yoga app. That shit was HARD, but I liked it since it was more of a challenge than most of the beginner classes. Definitely going to continue doing that.

Oh, I ALSO got an email today that I think will make a lot of people very happy soon. I kind of want to tease more info about it, but I also kind of want to wait until it's completely done and just announce it then.
The blog design was done by the amazing Manadrake and I honestly can't thank her enough for it. I LOVE IT. I'd always done the design for the site myself, and I'll be the first to admit that I have absolutely NO eye for design at all. I couldn't be happier with how this turned out!
If you're looking for someone do to some digital (or traditional!) art or a site/YouTube/Twitch stream/Twitter design for you she's available for hire! Maybe later this week or this weekend.

A lot of things are coming up soon. Dinner tomorrow with Rich and another a cool dude, supper club dinner on Thursday, Rich's birthday weekend this weekend followed by Disneyland next weekend as a late birthday gift for him. I think I should have stuff to write about! Although keeping up while at Disneyland might be hard, I think I'm going to make Rich take his Macbook Air and try to use that to keep up.

Officially finished Week 6 of Couch-to-5k today. From today forward the rest of the program is all running, no more walk breaks! I can do this! I've got a weird sore muscle on the left side of my back. I notice it when I bend some ways, but also when I take a deep breath while my back is bent. Probably nothing/just a pulled muscle, but I worry about everything. I've got a massage coming up before my trip home in May so maybe I'll see if my masseuse can just work that spot a little.

There isn't really much else to write about today. Work was good, lunch was good, run was good, dinner was good, shower was good, this post is probably not good.

No Words

It's strange, how on the bus to work this morning I was talking to Rich about what I should maybe blog about for BEDA tonight.

But, none of the ideas I had earlier feel appropriate after what happened in Boston today.

I actually don't have much to say. As a newbie runner hoping to maybe run big races one day, this both terrifies me and makes me want to run in spite of the fear.
Thoughts go out to all of those affected.

BEDA Day 14

I have only a few minutes to write this.

I mean, you can basically say I failed BEDA at this point. Maybe. I dunno. I'm still typing this up so I guess it counts.

Last night I has a great time at a karaoke and dinner birthday party for a friend. Although I only drank 1.5 beers I definitely felt in on my run this morning despite thinking I had enough water to get it out of my system.

Today was the last day of walking intervals in Couch-to-5k for me. It's all straight running for 20+ minutes now for the last few weeks of the program!

Looking forward to doing some more yoga tomorrow on my running rest day.

Stayed up till like...3am last night finishing Mass Effect 3. I would've been done before 2am, but APPARENTLY [SPOILERS] in the Extended Cut if you try to shoot the catalyst at the end it gives you a new, not good 4th ending! [/SPOILERS]

FUN.

So I had to restart from the beginning of the last section and watch all the fucking cutscenes again and go through all the dialogue options and then NOT jokingly shoot at the catalyst and get the ending I really wanted.

It was pretty alright I guess. I enjoyed the stories told and wrapped up throughout the rest of the game more than the ending though. I feel kind of sad though that all this time I put in with these characters has finally come to an end and I won't here any more of their stories from here on out. I mean, yeah, there is DLC but I think BioWare has said that none of the DLC they'll put out will ever cover post-ME3 ending. I'm already missing them so much that I think I might just have to go download all the DLC and play through it.

BEDA Day 12

I'm too involved with the final mission of Mass Effect 3 right now to write a proper BEDA post for today. But I suppose writing something, no matter how short, is better than not writing at all and giving up completely...right?

Today I:
1. Hit snooze 3 times before getting up
2. Went to work
3. Did some testing and coding
4. Came home and did 30 minutes of yoga
5. Played Mass Effect 3
6. Wrote a really half-assed BEDA post

Better one tomorrow...maybe...

BEDA Day 11

Dang. Nearly forgot to blog again. I guess I'll just do a quick little post and call it done. Still counts, right?

I decided I wanted to start doing some yoga, specifically on my off days from running, so I downloaded a little app called Yoga Studio on my iPad. It's pretty amazing. It has a bunch of different pre made classes (flexibility, strength, relaxation, combination) ranging in skill level (beginner, intermediate, advanced) and length (15, 30, 60 min). Or you can make your own classes based off poses you like and it'll match good linking poses for them. I've found it's really good at showing and describing poses for beginners and I already find myself wanting to do more yoga. Oh, PLUS, they're working on making some short 5-10 minute routines for runners to do post-run. AWESOME.

I've also finished the dreaded Week 5 Day 3 of Couch-to-5k, TWICE. And didn't need to stop at all! I can run for 20 minutes straight! I don't think I've been able to do this...ever!

Starting Week 6 on Saturday, but I know after finishing W5D3 that I'll be able to do anything this program throws at me.

Our Napa Valley Anniversary

Poor Rich. February is like a triple whammy for him. He have Valentine's Day (which I honestly don't care about), then my birthday two days after that, and then our anniversary nine days after that!

I insisted that I didn't really want anything big for any three of those things, but of course Rich started teasing me before my birthday about something he was planning. He even needed me to ask off a day of work for it. Hmm.

Ended up he was planning this AMAZING weekend getaway to Napa Valley for the two of us!

We got up early on Saturday, picked up our rental car and then started our hour and a half drive to wine country.

Also my first time going over the Golden Gate Bridge!

Rich got us the fanciest room at The Old World Inn in Napa. The bed and breakfast was super cozy, with wine tastings each night at 5:30 followed by desserts left out for everyone until they're gone. Little French presses already set up with coffee in them and cast iron teapots available downstairs at all times with an assortment of teas to try. Oh, and obviously breakfast every morning.

Our room had this huge, plush king sized bed, a little gas fireplace, a HUGE bathroom with a ginormous bathtub and a shower and a fancy HDTV.

We got to the inn around 3pm, and decided to walk around downtown Napa to get a lay of the land and find some coffee for Rich. We returned and went straight to that evening's wine tasting.

Obligatory wine glass picture.

We then got dinner at Red Rock Cafe and got some delicious BBQ pulled pork then headed back downtown to a place I had scouted out on our earlier walk, Downtown Joe's Brewery and Restaurant where we proceeded to be rebels and drink beer in wine country.

Nom.

After we got back I took advantage of the amazing bathtub (which took forever to fill up) and just soaked in there for an hour or so. So. Relaxing. Thinking of it again really makes me wish we had a bathtub here instead of just a standing only shower.

Sunday we knew we wanted to do a winery tour, so after the delicious breakfast Rich went to ask the front desk for recommendations. He eventually decided on Castello Di Amorosa, a winery in a castle.

One of the two resident cats joined us to wait for the next tour.

The tour was pretty cool, we saw a bunch of rooms of the castle, learned some history of Italy and Italian castles that inspired the building of this one.

Banquet hall

Market courtyard

The tour then started telling us more about the grapes and wines grown and made here and the processes for both while we toured the more technical and industrial parts of wine making in the castle. Then made our way down into the wine cellars where the barrels are kept for aging.

Oh, the castle also had an armory and a torture chamber with authentic armor and...torture devices.

Finally, we got to the actual wine tasting, where I think we got to try like 10 or 12 different wines. I was actually interested in seeing Rich's reaction to wines, since he was very certain that he didn't like wine at all. But, ends up that he does! He just likes dessert wines!

Rich's wine tasting notes

We ended up buying two bottles of wine and some sea salt dark chocolate that was given to us while tasting the sweet wines. Still haven't opened either bottle though, should probably get on that.

Headed back to the inn and almost straight to the wine tasting going on there. Then we walked back into downtown and got some delicious dinner at an Italian restaurant. We decided we'd done enough drinking during the day and retired back to our room to spend the rest of the evening relaxing on the plush bed and watching the Academy Awards.

We slept in as late as we could the next day before checking out and heading back into the city.

Our first anniversary was absolutely amazing. Everything about the trip was so perfectly relaxing and romantic. I'm seriously so lucky. Now, wonder how he's going to top this next year.

I just found a new smoothie recipe on Pinterest yesterday (I'm not sure why, but I've recently been on a Pinterest kick) and just happened to have a good majority of the ingredients. I decided to tweak it a little bit to fit more of what I have in my kitchen and give it a bit more protein. After my run today I decided to make this for my post-run protein.

Mango Banana [protein] Smoothie
(makes 1 smoothie)

1 small banana
1/2 cup frozen cut mango
1/2 cup fat-free milk (or your milk of choice, add more if you like a thinner consistency)
1 scoop vanilla protein powder (I use Designer Whey's French Vanilla)
1 tbsp flax meal

Nutrition Facts (per serving): 345 calories, 27g protein, 54g carbs, 5g fat

Directions:

Combine all items in a blender.

Blend.

Pour into glass and enjoy!

My Camelbak Eddy waterbottle.

Back in January, right in the beginning of my journey into fitness, I determined I needed to drink more water. I started tracking my water intake with MyFitnessPal and...I was probably getting about 5 or 6 cups worth of water a day, when I should be having 8 AT LEAST. I noticed I really only drink water at work, and very rarely at home, even though we have this nice, fancy Brita water pitcher and everything.

When I went to Ohio in January I bought a big bottle of water while waiting for my flight out of SFO. For the rest of the weekend toted this disposable water bottle around with me, constantly refilling it when I needed. I even took it on my trip back from Ohio (took it through security empty and refilled once past security). So many airports have water bottle refilling stations now too!

I decided I really just needed to get a water bottle, that way I could have water on my walks and would (hopefully) drink more when at home. Plus it would be a lot easier to carry around and refill when dealing with airports. But which bottle to get? I knew I wanted BPA free (but who even makes non-BPA free ones anymore at this point, right?) and I would prefer one with straw-like part, since I notice that I tend to just mindlessly sip with a straw.

So I started my Google search, and came across this interesting little study from Pepperdine University where participants drank 24% more water when using the Camelbak bottle than other bottles.

Plus the bottles were available for relatively cheap (with Prime shipping) on Amazon AND you can get one in bright orange?

Sold.

Since getting mine I've definitely been drinking A LOT more water at home, work and everywhere in between! The bottle I got holds 750ml which is a little over 3 cups of water and I try to have at least two (if not three) full bottles done by the time I leave work and tend to probably average around four (~12 cups) a day. Definitely an improvement from before!

Rich even liked mine so much that he bought his own!
