Some Tier-1 laptop makers thinking about dropping the ExperssCard slot to reduce size

There are reports that some Tier-1 laptop manufacturers are considering dropping ExpressCard ports on all laptops - to reduce size and costs. ExpressCards haven't been successful and almost all laptops now include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and enough USB ports to make these modules quite unnecessary.

According to industry reports, less than 0.5% of laptops that has ExpressCard slots are actually equipped with an ExpressCard device. An ExpressCard slot costs about $5, and takes up quite a bit of space.

RunCore announces an ExpressCard that offers 64GB SSD and two USB 3.0 ports

RunCore announced a new ExpressCard module that offers a 64GB SSD and two USB 3.0 slots. That's a useful combination! The SSD features 110MB/s read speed and 80MB/s write speed. The biggest disadvantage of this two in one design is that while the SSD is busy, the USB 3.0 bandwidth drops.

We do not know when this will be available and at what price.
