Damaged telomeres have prevented this yeast cell from dividing. Instead, it has continuously replicated its DNA in preparation for division, resulting in numerous copies of DNA, as seen in the multiple bright spots of stained DNA. This image dramatizes a pond microorganism cell with damaged telomeres trying, unsuccessfully, to divide. Telomeres are the last portion of chromosomes to divide. The lit up, elongated filaments shown in the cell are chromosomes that the cell is trying to pull apart. They cannot be separated because they are stuck together. <title>Osama Bin Laden</title>
<description>&amp;nbsp;
&amp;nbsp;

Osama Bin Laden

AP

MastermindOsama bin Laden, seen here in 1988, is the leader of Al-Qaeda, a jihadist terrorist organization bent on ending western, especially American, influence on Muslim countries and the elimination of Israel. It seeks the creation of a new Islamic caliphate, a system of rule by Islamic law under a holy leader, across the Islamic world. "The terrorism we practice," he says, "is of the commendable kind for it is directed at the tyrants and the aggressors and the enemies of Allah ..."

RootsBin Laden was born in 1957, reportedly the 17th of the 57 children of Mohammed bin Laden, the owner of the largest construction company in Saudi Arabia. He was raised under conservative Wahhabi tenets, and, while enrolled at King Abdel Aziz University in Jidda, developed a belief in pan-Islamicism, a philosophy that stresses a united, Islamic world.

JihadIn the late 1970s, after Afghanistan was invaded by the Soviet Union, bin Laden traveled to the country to raise money for the Mujaheddin. Through his family connections he was able to deliver heavy equipment &amp;mdash; used to build roads, tunnels and training camps &amp;mdash; to the Mujahaddin. Exiled from his native country for criticizing the Saudi King &amp;mdash; for allowing US troops to stay in the Kingdom &amp;mdash; bin Laden remained in Afghanistan, where he created his own training camp and, with the help of his former college professor Abdullah Azzam, founded al-Qaeda, meaning "solid base", to offer religious training to the Mujaheddin.

StudyShortly after the embassy bombings bin Laden said, "If the instigation for jihad against the Jews and the Americans in order to liberate al-Aksa Mosque and the Holy Ka'aba is considered a crime, then let history be a witness that I am a criminal."

FleetingPeriodically, bin Laden releases audio recordings. In his most recent taped message, released in March, 2009, bin Laden urged the overthrow of the government in Somalia. "He (President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed) must be dethroned and fought," bin Laden said. "These sorts of presidents are the surrogates of our enemies and their authority is null and void."

Controversial comments
Schlesinger expressed her dislike of the comedian Mo'nique in a blog on her Official website dated July 31, 2006. This dislike stems primarily from Mo'nique's obesity and her efforts at promoting "fat acceptance" through the film Phat Girlz and the UPN television program Mo'Nique's Fat Chance.
Schlesinger summed up her opinion of MoNiques Fat Chance by saying:
"Being big is one thing, but being fat because you can&amp;rsquo;t stop shoving food in your face is totally another and, honestly, shouldn&amp;rsquo;t be rewarded."
"Fact is, most of them weren&amp;rsquo;t even pretty, they were just fat..."
"It was painful watching her (Mo'nique) as she struggled to enunciate her words over, her fat throat-sounded like it was closing up on her every few seconds. I wanted to hit her, or, in the words of Mike Jones("Ring her fat goose neck till her eyeballs popped out.")

<title>Conference postponed in South Africa in the absence of the Dalai Lama </title>
<description>&amp;nbsp;
Mar 24 2009
The peace conference linked to the World Cup in South Africa has been postponed because of the refusal of local authorities to grant a visa to the Dalai Lama, announced Tuesday the organizing committee this conference.

"(...) The organizers have decided, in the interest of peace, to postpone the conference on peace in South Africa to ensure that it takes place under good conditions," said chairman Irvin Khoza , one of the leaders of the World-2010. "The South African government has persuaded the Dalai Lama to postpone his visit to South Africa," he added during a press conference in Johannesburg. The South African authorities said Monday after refusing, on behalf of the national interest to grant a visa to the Tibetan spiritual leader who would take part Friday in a conference in Johannesburg on football in the fight against racism and xenophobia. The Nobel Committee for Peace and two winners of South Africa, Desmond Tutu and Frederik de Klerk, immediately announced that they had boycotted the meeting. The spokesman for the South African presidency, Thabo Masebe, reiterated Tuesday the position of Pretoria. "We have taken our decision. We stand, nothing will change," he told the press. "It is not forbidden to travel. We just did not invited," said Masebe. China has said later of his satisfaction that countries do not the spiritual leader of Tibetans, which Beijing accuses of independence conducted. The grand son of Nelson Mandela criticized Tuesday the position of South African authorities. "I do not think, as an independent nation, that we must succumb to international pressure," said Mandla Mandela, also an organizer of this conference. "For me, considering the role my grandfather played towards democracy with these colleagues, this government's refusal to issue a visa to the Dalai Lama really undermines our efforts to promote democracy. It is a sad day South Africa is a sad day for Africa, "he regretted.
