We're Auditors, Not Bankers

Hi there. It's really been quite a while since I last posted, & I think I'd probably be doing it more often now. As most of you should already know, I've been working in the audit line for more than a year now & it's definitely amazing. In this post, I'd like to share some insights of the professional so you may widen your horizon of knowledge & widen your options for a career path.

Most of you would already know, that there are the Big 4 + 2 firms in the audit practice. They are ranked as below (you may click on the URL below the image for a link to the website).

Kindly do note, that all these firm's are international networks of practice which operate in the view of profits as separate entities in their own countries (e.g. US, UK, Malaysia).

Our work, as auditors (a.k.a. assurance providers) is with regard to the Financial Statements which comprise of the :

Directors' Report
Balance Sheet
Income Statement
Cash Flow Statement
Statement of Changes in Equity
Notes to the Accounts

Our role is to ensure that the Financial Statements (subject matter) are properly drawn up in accordance with the relevant reporting standards (e.g. FRS, IFRS, PERS). We have to ensure that the accounts show a true & fair view of the company. True in this context, is referring to without fraud & factual. Whereas fair refers to the unbiased condition of the subject matter. Our duty, is to actually prepare a report which is known as the Audit Report as you can see below.
An example of what we do, referring to the Balance Sheet on Cash at Bank balances. Let's say, the amount of Fixed Deposits is $160m, we shall have to confirm this amount. But how?

Sight and agree the amount to the bank statement
If figure agrees, send a bank letter to the bank
Receive the bank confirmation, & ensure amount is true & fair
Ensure proper disclosure on security placed for this amount is performed

By taking these steps, the amount is definitely true & fair and therefore shows a clear view on the company's performance. Do note though, that our work is based on materiality, a concept developed for efficiency. Our work depends on the size of the client. If the Profit before Tax figure is small, more work shall have to be done as a small Net Profit margin would mean that the shareholders would require more assurance of the figures, as a loss making company is completely different than if compared to a money making one.

Then, comes the quality control process where reviewing and leadership comes to play. Here's positioning by ranking in a firm :

Internal auditors are different than compared to external auditors. They work for company's with the NEDS (non-executive directors), ensuring internal controls are operating effectively. Paychecks are paid by the company itself and therefore an independence threat is apparent.

Hola there. I finally managed to put this post up. All right, as you can see above... I'm currently employed in an audit firm, namely SJ Grant Thornton. I'm also being sponsored as an ICAEW trainee here as well. And yeah, auditing is fun. Honestly, it is. And, yeah... I have a message to all of you reading this post. Please refer below.
Dear Potential CEO,

School. A perfect place to train candidates of the most efficient employees. Then comes the million dollar question, where do these people work without employers? There is no specific subject being taught in any school around the globe on being a successful employer. Therefore, the subject that should be learned is financial education.

Financial education is a subject where someone should learn to make things work the opposite way. Employees work for money and employers don't. Employers make money work for them. This is a form of education which has outrageous demands which result in either an oblivious failure or a magnificent success story. Here, I shall divide the matter to four scopes: investment, understanding the market, accounting & law. To be a successful employee, one must know everything about something. Example given, a doctor who specializes in a particular area earns a considerably higher amount of money & reputation than a normal doctor. On the other hand, an employer has to know something about everything. His/her scope has to be limitless to accomplish so.

The art of investing money is the key to making money work for you. It is like science that has formulas which you apply but not necessarily have to memorize. The crux is learning how to make formulas which particularly involves a lot of brain-storming or in a simpler term, thinking. Nevertheless, creativity is the most vital factor in investing. Take note that even in investing, there is something that works like gravity : inflation. Take precaution, think creatively and win.

Before you can actually master the art of investment, you shall have to be able to understand the market. This is the renowned process of supply & demand. The market is like a person with feelings. It's all about emotions, which frequently doesn't comply with logic. Mastering these emotions will take thorough research & understanding. The deeper you get into these emotions, the easier it gets. Pokémon cards used to be the "in" thing during my childhood days. Almost every Tom, Dick & Harry had them. Then suddenly, everyone stops and the cards becomes very much dead. There was a tipping point. Therefore, the flow has to be followed and understood so changes can be made.

Next up, understanding financial statements. The one & only way is through accounting. Advanced accounts has to be mastered to fully understand documents & importantly, financial statements. By using the financial statement, one will know whether the investment has potential to succeed or fail which most probably goes unnoticed by the untrained eye. Accounting plays an important role in eradicating fraud too. Anyone could lie, so you'll have to get smart & see through them. In these lies, the genuine truth is hidden.

Lastly, one should learn to utilize the law. The law is supposedly a punishment to the rich, but in practice it really isn't. Taxes are paid by everyone. Employees work, get paid, pay their taxes then spend their money. Employers get paid, spend and pay their taxes with their leftovers by utilizing personal corporations. Almost anything can be accomplished at the tip of your fingers if you understand the law. Use it & never let it outdo you.

If all of these are learned in school, one would definitely be on the road of being a successful employer. Unfortunately, it isn't. So, it's your call. A persistent person believes in destiny, a capricious one in chance.

King of the Jungle

The most beautiful people we have known are those who have known defeat, known suffering, known struggle, known loss, and have found their way out of the depths. These persons have an appreciation, a sensitivity and an understanding of life that fills them with compassion, gentleness and deep loving concern. Beautiful people do not just happen. :)

The pic above is my workdesk. I'm currently employed by PPG as a purchaser. For those who didn't know, purchasers purchase on behalf of the company. In simpler terms, we do the shopping for the company's needs. It's the link between a company and it's suppliers. And the best part is, I work only from 8.00am - 4.30pm and have 3 breaks in between. ;p
Next up, tattoo; a permanent picture, design, or other marking made on the skin by pricking it and staining it with an indelible dye. It's a awesome process honestly. You get into the tattoo parlour. You either bring your own design or choose one of the thousands that have been predesigned, and he traces it using a carbon paper. Then, he rubs alcohol on your designated tattoo area and shaves it. Next, he applies a special type of glue on the area and puts the traced design on the glue, applies some pressure and voila, the design has now been transferred to you. Then, he uses an electric tattoo machine (that's what its really called ;p) to draw it. And after a few minutes which might feel like the longest and most painful ones you've ever been through, you'll have your tattoo. It hurts so bad, but feels so good. You'll definitely feel awesome.
That's Haridass' tribal one. It looks even better when you see the real thing honestly.
This is the design that was initially transfered to me.
To avoid misintrepretations of the design, it's an infuriated lion. Cut the long story short, in the heart of every brave man, sleeps a lion. Some say getting a tattoo is like a continuous ant bite. Sadly, thats a lie. It's actually a lot more agonizing than that. I gotta go "Hakuna Matata" with Timon & Pumba now. :)

Truth, Honesty & Lies

You want it all. Well, guess what? Everyone wants it all. Alright, you get it all. You sustain for a lil while. Then, you begin to lose your pride & dignity. And that's pretty much losing it all, ain't it?

I'm pretty disappointed with individuals who claim to have it all and convince others to follow in their paths to having it all too. Particularly, I'm referring to the highly famed "peak performance coach", Anthony Robbins. A one day seminar with 3000 other participants will cost you a stunning USD10,000. Well, there are also camps(like one week seminars) which are priced at around USD100,000 per participant. Overwhelming? Here's the catch. You'd be able to fire walk after the seminar. Spectacular yet possible. Read about it here. Strangely, the cool down period(time frame where you are entitled to revoke the contract and get a full refund) for his seminars are relatively low compared to other seminars. His books are spectacular reads and I'd recommend them to all. However, some facts are baseless so please beware.

He also self proclaims himself as having a "perfect marriage", to his first wife, Becky who is 10 years his senior which ended up in a divorce after 15 years in the year 2001. And in June of the same year, he got married to Bonnie Humphrey who is 22 years younger than his first wife and hence 12 years younger than himself. The best part is, he met both of them at the seminars he hosted. And yeah, he markets products for the "perfect marriage". ;p

Lesson: Do not trust everything that you READ or HEAR.
Here's another good example. It's called the "Yales Study of Goals". Scientists surveyed the Yale class of 1953, and found that 3 percent had written down financial goals for their futures at their college graduation. When the group reconvened in 1973, this 3 percent of the class that had started their careers with some kind of plan controlled more combined net worth than the other 97 percent combined.

Sounds astonishing ain't it? I went "WOW" for a while. This "study" has been quoted by Zig Ziglar & Anthony Robbins in their self-help books & seminars. Guess what? The study never existed. It turned up to be just an urban legend.

Even the crux of Einstein's theory of relativity - E = mc² may be relatively wrong. Lene Hau has already shaken scientists' beliefs about the nature of things. Albert Einstein and just about every other physicist insisted that light travels 186,000 miles a second in free space, and that it can't be speeded-up or slowed down. But in 1998, Hau, for the first time in history, slowed light to 38 miles an hour, about the speed of rush-hour traffic. And in 2002, another discovery made by a team of Australians gave evidence that the speed of light may be slowing down. When one of the cornerstones of physics collapses, it's not obvious what you hang onto and what you discard.

Even logic can be proven illogic. There is no shame in not knowing; the shame lies in not finding out. Give it a thought the next time you decide go by logic. It's never too late. :)

Not Your Average Super Hero

Ever wondered how it felt like growing up to be a superhero? Well, I'll tell ya. First up, you will have to understand that "Heroes are born, whereas superheroes are made" :)
That's me during my training days. I used M16's for criminal hunting practice. Yeah, I kinda used guns coz' I haven't learnt CQC (Close Quarter Combat) or should I say, dirtying my hands for the kills. ;p
That was me about a few years back when I bagged my first melee kill.
I had my undercover missions too, when I had to get to parties and catch some of those nasty villains.
I never missed out on clubbin' moments too as a superhero.
And finally, that's me after I saved the world. Phew, it was a tiring day really. ;p Memorable, but still exhausting. Hope ya'll enjoyed the post. I gotta go off and get those evil dudes running around now. Cheerios. =)

It's Not My Time

Alright, here's the first post of the month.
That's LA2D, "Let's Agree To Disagree". It's a show which will soon air on TV2. And yeah, I'm one of the "artists" which will star in the show. Why I used the word "artist"? I don't really know either, it states "artist" on my appointment letter.
Well, during the shootings, I actually learnt quite a lot. Firstly, it would be that pink is actually not that bad. It's awesome really. I also learnt to listen to others opinions and also accept them when they're found worthy. I've managed to refute, dispute and disagree more effectively. Not forgetting, I've also learnt to agree to disagree. =)
We are face to face here with the sometimes confusing role of paradox in our lives. An example is the well-known advice to "be careful what you wish for". The longing and loves of our youth, so ardently pursued, often lead us toward some combination of amusement and regret in our later lives. Where is that girl we so desired in high school? Even if we are married to her, the person we fell in love with is a memory, as are, all too often, the feelings she inspired. The things we are sure will make us happy seldom do. Fate it seems, has a sense of humour.
The list of paradoxes is endless: the relentless pursuit of pleasure brings pain, the greatest risk is not taking any. My personal favorite is the truth that everything in life is a good news/bad news story. The long sought promotion brings more money and more headaches. Our dream vacation puts us in debt. Experience has taught us well, but now we are too old to use the knowledge.
Consider answering this question. What are you saving your life for? If you can't seem to answer it, here are some ideas that might trigger your mind into coming up with better suggestions to spend your life a lil'.

Contact sports (rugby, boxing, wrestling)
Backpacking around Europe
Military service
Driving to Russia

I suppose you have a rough idea of what I mean now. After all, life is a gamble in which we don't get to deal the cards, but are nevertheless obliged to play them to the best of our ability.

Hey there. I attended the Unity Concert, and I suppose a review about the night would be alright. Yeah, I do support local bands and Klang.
First up, a pre-concert snap. Thats me and my homies. They say "a picture means a thousand words". With this one, I could give ya' a million. For starters, hows "Americans, Canadians and OCP"? =)
Next up, the bouncers, Nash, Zebo, Bobo and Fitri(Old Putera Alpha 02'). Literally, they're people employed to expel disorderly persons from a public place. I perhaps learned a thing that night. A smile and empathy can really do miracles. In life, we tend to treat and get treated like objects at times. Try giving the phrase a thought. Sometimes, we get in I - It conversations. Suggestion : Have more I - You conversations, and you'll be amazed by how amazing people can really be. Everyone has a story, sometimes you just have to stop and listen... and you might learn a lot. =)
That's Balan from the KLG Sqwad. The night was made possible by them. Kudos to em'. The system was never equal nor fair. Minors wouldn't understand. A courageous effort was made.
P-dancing on stage came next. There is a bit of insanity in dancing that does everybody a great deal of good.
Sasi's singing Anbe (My Love), Kavin's with me at the back. We were "discussing" at the time. Confrontation, is a unique word really. It's violent and yet peaceful at times.

Support Local Ones

I went to the BMW Sauber road show that was going on in KLCC. It was pretty much okay, however I really find it weird to have to purchase RM200 worth of merchandise for 3 laps on the F1 simulator. Haizzz, they make everything marketable I suppose. Here's the BMW Sauber's new ride. =)

Last season (2007), they finished 2nd place. Not bad huh? ;p And, both of the cars from the team finished in the top 10 today (2nd and 6th) in the Sepang F1 Circuit.
Since November 2005, both BRP-Rotax & Petronas have jointly designed the Rotax 4-TEC 1200, a high performance and high revving four stroke inline 3 engines for snowmobile and personal watercraft applications. Here's the Ski-Doo MXZ. Whoever said, we Malaysians' aren't prepared for snow sure is proven wrong. Personally, I find it really weird though for Petronas to be investing in snowmobile. =.="
This next one's called the Can Am Spider. This investment by Petronas is way much more understandable compared to the one earlier.

Of Nuffnang & Stripping

It all began with NuffNang's invitation which I got.
I had Haridass, a close friend of mine to follow me to the event. Things got a lil' complicated, as we didn't know where exactly the place was and so we decided to use public transportation. Save money a bit plus I'm better at em' than driving when it comes to KL. After a lil' bit of detour on foot, we finally arrived at the Borneo Baruk Club.
And yes, we kinda had the 'stop and stare' look on our faces when we got there and saw this.
Then, I got back into reality and registered. And we got bands, I got a green one.
We got in and started chillin'. Heineken was on the house, so I and Hari stayed by the bar with a cool dude, E and his friends Nick and Sean. "Cheers to World Peace" =)
Then, the gambling got into play. We met these two people while we were at it. Yvonne and Ione. Well, there's a story to Yvonne though. She had N$600. Haridass, offered N$700 for an all-in game of first-to-5 scissors-paper-stone. The competition, in my eyes as the betting commissioner and spectator, was really quite a fight. It was 4-all when it came to the last one where Haridass won. The Gambler's Fallacy helped I suppose. (Read about it peeps)
The crowd was massive really. I suppose you could spot me and Haridass in the pic here. And that was only downstairs. =)
Try spotting us in this one too. :PThen, we got to the Brangelina thing. I would like to thank my Angelina as she was really easy-going with me.
And yes, special thanks to all the other Brangelinas'. We really kicked ass peeps.
Well, then came the Dawn Yang moments. I would also like to thank everyone for contributing to this special moment I had with her. You know what I mean. And not forgetting Ming lost N$200 to me in a first-to-3 scissors-paper-stone game. Won 3 - Love. ;p
She had me strip off my clothes. The crowd wanted my pants too. =(
We had a lil' conversation before...
Lucky for me, the chambermaid got me locked and loaded to progress with the rest of the night. I owe ya one'. ;p
Out of a sudden, Haridass introduced me to a girl that happened to be an ADP student of Sunway University College, our college.
We had to go home. The chambermaid had a last message and so she figuratively said "Peace" while Haridass bid "au revoir" to her. =)

Life's A Four Letter Word

Ahhh.... Life, the physical, mental, and spiritual experiences that constitute existence. Beautiful yet confusing. A good life is a main argument. And with a lil' research, I've compiled a few ways people define life in general:

Career - Studying your ass off, getting good grades, later a good job at a good company with a good paycheck, getting married, having kids and finally dying. Perhaps this is the most famous way of defining life. I find it really pretty "interesting". And the best part of this life, is that you're constantly in an unstable battle to reach financial stability. It's really a struggle most part, but I suppose that's the beauty of it. Life is difficult after all.
Money - I suppose this one's really pretty popular in today's world. This one's really confusing though as there really is like two ways people look at it. Some will be like, money is everything in today's world, whereas others say money can't buy you everything. Then, comes the popular belief that money is the root of all evil. Perhaps buying feelings and emotions would be fun too. And yeah, life's supposed to be easy with money. A lil' contradictory to the "career" definition of life.
Happiness - Then comes the really sweet definition of life, its about being happy and spreading the joy. Most people would rather be certain they're miserable, than risk being happy. It's pretty hard to tell what does bring happiness. Poverty and wealth have both failed. Life's supposed to be more about freedom here. This one's pretty weird though, coz' usually the one's spreading the joy are more like candles to the society. Someone has to struggle for happiness. But struggle isn't all that happy now, is it?
Sex - Yeah, there are people around who define sex as the best thing in the world. Therefore, it is automatically taken for them that sex is life. Having animal sex with a sexually intimate partner or partners really defines life to some. This actually relates to the "money" definition as most of them use it to increase their sex appeal. However, this definition really spoils lives of a few unfortunate. One word, rapists.
After life - Fighting others in order to prove that their theory of living and dying is the truth really has caused quite a big portion of damage to the world. Perhaps I really don't get this process of living. Living to prepare for death. I find it really confusing as it really takes a lot of faith and patience. Still, it's a definition of life to some and yeah, I understand that it might be a lot discretionary. And I would be really happy if someone could really explain to me this definition of life to me.

Lemme guess, now you want it all. Well, then life's gonna be hard, easy, sad, happy, wild and peaceful? I wouldn't mind having em' all really. My personal opinion is life's about balance. You could go ahead and embrace life or let it hit you. Or you could do both. Or you could live in the moment. And yeah, here's something you could try for starters:

Impact - Smile at someone today, talk to someone. Motivate that person, leave a memory, be creative. Giving a big speech about world peace isn't really gonna put a stop to hatred. Why don't you try getting one person at a time. Happiness shared is double happiness, and sorrow shared is half a sorrow. You really have everything to gain with little to lose.
Don't hold back - Give everything you're doing you're all. Put everything you have in doing whatever you're doing currently. In a more business approach, this would mean be efficient. Successful leaders have the courage to take action where others hesitate. Lose yourself in the moment.
Never trade your passion for glory - If you're doing something, do it if you want to do it. Even in competition, fight against yourself. Fighting against yourself brings improvement which is much more valuable than victory. Beat yourself every time you do something. You are your biggest opponent.
Love it - Savour the moment. Remember the rush, ecstasy, feelings and thoughts that came into your mind during the moment. Chances are you felt something, but your mind was blank. Hey everybody. Chipster is the new hottest thing. It literally burns =) And yeah, thats me in the picture. I'm kinda in my PJ's on my comfy bed. And yeah, I realized that it doesn't look like what most people would wear to sleep. It's like I'm heading for a battlefield instead of dreamland. Haha, well Chipster helps me get there. :D

Since I'm already talking about dreamland, I suppose I could help ya'll get better sleep every night with these tips. I have personally tried them all. It really works.

Eat Chipster as it's fiery hot taste will leave sleeping better
Maintain a sleeping schedule as it creates a mindset
Don't eat or drink heavily before sleep
Do not nap during the day
Avoid nicotine, alcohol and caffeine in the evenings
Exercise regularly
Use a comfortable bed and pillow
Take six deep breaths
Feel your aches
Assure yourself you'll wake up on time
Think of a hammock

You'll definitely have better sleep if you practice em'. Tell me if you have better suggestions and I might put it up here too.

Well, I was at Bar Celona last week. Was pretty awesome. Ex primary and one year high school mates asked me to come, and I went. People change and stay the same. =)

Alright, and Happy Valentine's Day too!

I guess there are people who don't really "celebrate" or enjoy Valentine's. I don't really get it really. Yeah, Valentine's can be any other day. I've heard remarks like, "What's so great about Valentine's?" and "It's just a normal day like any other day". Well, suggestion is... do not ever repeat those phrases again. It really makes you sound like saying, "I'll just spend Valentine's like every other boring day of my boring life". Maybe, its just me... But, it's ME if you get what I mean. Perhaps, singles might be saying... "But, I don't have a date". Well, here's what I did on V-Day.
I had work like usual, till it finished at 5.30pm. Then, I headed to MPH. Spend quite a fortune buying those books you're looking at. Well, weird though. I've been buying books like crazy, and only now I realized that if you buy books like crazy, you get an MPH card FOC. Still, here's the list of what I bought:

Dale Carnegie - How To Win Friends And Influence People

And yeah, I really recommend everyone this particular book by M Scott Peck, The Road Less Traveled. I just read it, and it's really one of the best books I've ever read.

Haha, alright. Now, let's get back on track. After MPH, I headed back to Subang to pick up a friend. Then, headed to AsiaCafe to meet up with another friend. Then, we thought of what to do. Made a phone call, and decided to join another group of singles. So, we all headed to PJ together. Had dinner. Met quite a number of new people, namely Niro, Dino, Praveen, Ranjeeta Kaur, Sash & Debra Low. Perhaps I simplified it a little too much. Well, I suppose you could imagine what happened in any way you want. Use your creativity and logic. =)

The message I'm trying to convey here is...

Don't worry, be happy.

Work hard, and play hard too.

Nothing says it better than the cake. HAPPY BIRTHDAY ROSHANN! A year better, stronger and not forgetting, older. To me, celebrating birthdays is not merely a convention. Birthdays are occasions to celebrate one's growth, maturity, and development. Birthdays remind us that the gift of life is the most precious and important one. Live daringly, boldly, fearlessly. Taste the relish to be found in competition - in having put forth the best within you.

For those who have noticed my inactivity in my blog and online-ness, its due to my recent employment with UMW Toyota Capital. I'm currently an Accounts Executive at the 20th Floor of IBM Plaza at the company mentioned. It's right beside One World Hotel which is right beside One Utama. So, every who hangs out at One Utama at around 1.00pm - 2.00pm, let me know and we could have lunch together. For those who are there even longer at perhaps after 5.30pm, let me know too. We could hang out and you could be getting a free ride home. =)

And yes, everyone already knows this but I'm gonna say this.

CIGARETTES KILL

I've successfully managed to quit smoking. I thank everyone for their trust and support. It is basically pretty darn easy if you're a busy person. Like occupy all your time doing something. The month of January 2008 has been very building. I feel very much more disciplined and chivalrous today. For those still studying full-time, I suggest you make full use of it.

I have to be in my office at 8.00am. I wake up at 6.15am and leave the house at 6.45am. Send my sister to school and manage to make it in time. Finish work at 5.30pm and reach home at 7.00pm. Send my sister to tuition at 7.15pm and go to the gym after that. Pick her from tuition at 10.00pm and get dinner together. Reach home at about 10.45pm. Then, it's either study or go online for a while. Then, at about 11.30pm, I read my current book. And I go to bed at 12.00am. And thats, Mondays to Fridays. I have got class from 2.00pm to 8.30pm on Saturdays. And, class again at 8.00am to 2.30pm on Sundays.

A lot can change when you understand and accept this phrase.

Life is difficult.

Hola peeps. I suppose it's time I posted something new. The picture you see above was taken on the 18th Dec 2007, during the Passing Out Parade for the year. Taken in front of "Block A" of the students dormitory or my home for 4 years at the Royal Military College. Well, the place is kinda awesome now with new stuff here and there. Haha, I suppose the budget given to the place isn't just "disappearing" now. Anyways, the people there are all from my batch, 03-06 Royal Sovereign'.
Most of you should already know the people in this pic. But for those who don't, I (Rosh) am on the left, and my sister (Yash) is on the right. And she's my biological/blood/real sister.

Gambling
The sure way of getting nothing from something

Lately, I tried gambling. I wanna let people reading this to not gamble coz' it ain't good. Having said this, you're most probably guessing I lost a whole lot of money. But, actually I kinda won a whole lot in only two sessions. Most people would actually tend to believe something called the "Gambler's Fallacy".

Test yourself: You are flipping a coin, and you are not cheating. You have just flipped 7 heads in a row. Is your next flip more likely to be:

Heads
Tails
Heads and tails are equally likely

The correct answer is 3, heads and tails are equally likely. Answer 1 is an example of one version of the Gambler's Fallacy (you think that your luck will continue). Answer 2 is an example of the opposite version of the Gambler's Fallacy (you think that your luck will change).

A popular way to explain why answer 3 is correct is the expression, "the coin (or dice or whatever) has no memory". It does not matter what the previous flips were. The coin always shows 50-50 odds.

Probability says that approximately 50% of your flips will be heads and approximately 50% will be tails. It does not say that exactly 50% will be heads. In fact it says that there will be streaks of several heads in a row and streaks of several tails in a row. You will have streaks. But probability gives no clue when your streak will end. And if you think that you do have such a clue, you are fooling yourself.

If you find yourself saying, "I can't quit now, I'm on a winning streak" Gambler's Fallacy. If you find yourself saying, "I can't quit now, my luck's about to change," Gambler's Fallacy (the second version). "Gambler's Fallacy" is another way of saying "stupid".

And yeah, if you must play, decide upon three things at the start: the rules of the game, the stakes, and the quitting time.

Alright, now there's a good start to a post. My personal caption for it would be CSI : Subang. Hahahahaha. It's really random how we all met actually. Ash (the person on my left) stays in MyPlace, the apartments behind AsiaCafe. One day, I hanged out at AC. Then, I called her to come there coz' I wanted to see her. She came then we went to her apartments. And yeah, I met Sabrina, Raeeda and Fang.
And the black car you see in the pic is mine. It's a totally awesome car. Speaking about cars, I would like to recommend everyone reading this to get a manual transmission car coz' :

Manual cars can provide awesome pick up
You can save fuel if you know how to use the gears wisely
Easier to overtake and race coz' dropping the gear will help
Emergency braking can be done by clutch braking while dropping the gear
You can do tire spins as well as drift with a manual transmission

Another plus factor would be that you could drive any other car if you use a manual one. Trust me, it's way better than automatic transmission. =)

However, I'd like everyone reading this to not drink and drive. I repeat,

DO NOT DRUNK DRIVE

It's totally not good for your life and your wallet too really. I was involved in 3 particular ones last month (Nov 2007) alone. The 1st one was mine. Cost me 2 weeks without my car and RM200. 2nd one, was the worst. A friends car, cost him 2 days without his car and RM1750. Third one, was another friends car. Cost her about RM600.
The ads you watch on TV, hear on the radio and read on this blog is true.
So, don't do it... unless you want your car to end up like the car in the pic below. You could lose your life.
And, I'm currently having my exams till the 12th. I apologize if I might say that I'm busy during that period of time. Everyone, listen to these songs too. They're certified awesome by me. Haha =)

Alright, it's been pretty long since I last blogged, but hell yeah... I'm back. Well, I've been pretty much trying my very best to put all the little pieces of my life which have been kinda scattered lately back together. Thinking have been done, and conclusions have been made. I hope everyone reading this will learn something after reading this post.

Life is difficult.
This is a great truth, one of the greatest truths. It is a great truth coz' once we truly see this truth, we transcend it. Once we truly know that life is difficult - once we truly understand and accept it - then life is no longer difficult. Coz' once it has been accepted, the fact that life is difficult no longer matters.

Honestly, it did sound pretty painful to me at first. Even the 1st of the 4 Noble Truths which Buddha taught was "Life is suffering". And, yeah it pretty much has been suffering for me for some time. Life is a series of problems. It's really pretty much your choice to moan about them or solve them.

Rocky vs 007

Alright, what I'm gonna do is recommend you guys to watch both this movies. This two movies have pretty much taught me some practical things in life. Rocky teaches you to be humble and also the importance of getting back up and perserving to the very end. 007 is competent, professional and knowledgeable. And, I suppose we also learn that arrogance and self awareness seldom go hand in hand. Relationship wise, I'd say being Rocky is pretty much better but career wise, I'd suggest being a 007. I mean, we should do anything to get a job done. Or perhaps, almost anything. ;p

Alright, thats all for now I suppose. My exams are in a month and I have to really start studying. To everyone having their exams, good luck! I suppose you'll be needing it. I pretty much will. :(

Phew, long time since I last blogged and lots of stuff has taken place. Sunday(16/09/07) was Hari Malaysia and I would like to proudly say that I'm an "Anak Malaysia". Made it to the papers and news if you watched coz' of that! Well, basically there were about 100 students from various colleges and universities brought together by the Malaysian Interfaith Network to prepare a route map to improving Malaysia. Later that same day at Times Square, I as their representative presented it to Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon who is currently the Chief Minister of Penang and also the acting Gerakan President. After a really long time, youth have finally been able to speak for the country and I'd say this is an achievement to young Malaysians and not forgetting myself for being representative. :) You can read about it HERE.

Well, while we're at it... I'd like to express my concern about the "Unity Band". Yes, they are the ones you seen on the TV ads. They're literally extremely rare. Plus, people who do have extra ones actually sell em'. Funny huh? They're supposed to be uniting people but more people are making money out of it. Anyways, with connection to the above... here's some of the things we actually discussed and presented in our route map to improving Malaysia.

Eradicating corruption
Increasing the number of opposition members in the parliament
Compulsory education age till 17 years old/SPM level

I was told that I'd make a good politician by a number of people. When I start speaking about something else, people would say I'd make a good lawyer. Why can't people say you'd make a good entrepreneur/businessman to me? That would honestly make my day! :) Entrepreneurship requires persuasion and communication skills too after all.
People reading this, I hope you love Malaysia. And hopefully, everyone would be able to apply the Golden Rule, "Treat others as you would like to be treated".
Islam - No one of you is a believer until you desire for your neighbour that which you desire for yourself.
Hinduism - This is the essence of morality ; Do not do to others which if done to you would cause pain.
Christianity - Whatever that you wish that others would do to you, do so to them.
Sikhism - Do as you desire goodness for yourself as you cannot expect tasty fruits if you sow thorny trees.
Judaism - What is hateful to you, do not do to your neighbour - that is the basic law, all the rest is commentary.
Baha' I Faith - If your eyes be turned towards justice, choose for your neighbour that which you would choose for yourself.

Hola people. Here I am again. This week was superb. Lots of stuff. Firstly, we had a Street Soccer Tournament. Seriously, superbly awesome. I was like a managing organizer person. Managed all 7 teams from Stamford PJ and organized the event. We had like 15 teams in all. Haha, I was like the person that had to be the DJ for the day too. Here's a note to all future DJ's for soccer like events, make sure you have both this songs with you as it's over-frequently requested by players. The Cup Of Life by Ricky Martin and Return Of The Tres by Delinquent Habits. Music does play a very important role in an event. Not forgetting, I had to talk two teams out of fighting with one another.
Then, we had the Sports Carnival. Superbly awesome too. The overall champions was my team of players. Haha, being manager is kinda fun at times. You just go around scolding and motivating people. And, when they win... you get the fame too. Still, it becomes a pain in the ass at times. Like when suddenly, my college's badminton team wasn't registered. I had to find all the players and register them on the spot. Then, I realized that we were short one female player. Had to talk a girl into the event. And, somehow or rather I managed to do it. Honestly, I'd say that Stamford College is the best college ever. It really is. Plus, we have this college spirit thing which is kinda impossible to find in other colleges.
Last but not least, I passed my driving test. Awesome... Everything passed on my 1st attempt. At least, one important thing is settled. I didn't even finish my driving hours honestly. And, I did not pay any under table money. So, I'm quite happy for being able to do it.

Phew, got lots of stuff left to do. Sorry for not being able to post more pics, I've gotta get em from someone. Perhaps later I'll post em. Remember this everyone, your college life is supposed to be fun. If it isn't, there's gotta be something wrong somewhere.

Hi guys. Well, here I am. Nice pic I suppose but the *ahem* screwed it. Damn *ahem*s. I can't just get rid of *ahem*ing though. Ladies and gents, Roshann's here. ;)

Most of you would already know that I'm a Hindu. In Malaysia, there are many atheists around surprisingly. I don't find it awkward though. Well, religion or no religion, it still depends on the individual whether he/she wants to do right or wrong. Plus, people today are more afraid of the law. Here's an interesting fact I got from somewhere. I find it kinda surprising.
75% of Americans are Christians.
20% of Americans are Atheists (no religion).

75% of convicts in America are Christians.
0.2% of convicts in America are Atheists (no religion).

I'll leave it to you guys to conclude. I find it pretty surprising. Do your own study or conclusion. Ask me in person if you wanna know my comment for the study.

Dudes and girls out there, this is not just a random person. This person is me. And, most of ya'll would already know that I've been recently elected vice-president of my college's Student Council. Well, I've been reading another book though. This one's a must have. I personally recommend this to everyone: The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell.
The world moves in a very funny way. There's something called the 80-20 principle. It's really true actually. Did you know that 80% of all crimes are committed by 20% of criminals. 80% of all accidents are caused by 20% of motorists. Loads more of examples but I wouldn't wanna bore ya'll with em. Little things do make a really big difference. For example, reading a book could increase your self esteem and could eventually lead you to building a multinational company which provides millions of people with jobs. Every thing's possible. Even impossible spells "I'm-possible" ;p . So, read books people!

Haha, this is a suggestion of mine for a car team. Weird huh? Blitzkrieg is originally a German word. It's English too. "Blitz" means lightning whereas "Krieg" means war. It means lighting war literally. However, the English definition is "a swift, sudden military offensive, usually by combined air and mobile land forces". Just getting my car and already thinking of a race team. Well, I call it being unique ;p.

Recently, I've been really busy managing soccer teams of my college. Sports carnival on the 25th of August and I gotta recruit, prepare and manage players. Again, allow me to stress the word "TEAMS". Thats plural, and it hurts. Weird thing is, I thought I couldn't get enough players and now I'm having too many of em'. Haha, wish me luck on that then =D .

Before anyone says anything, the pic is bad. Makes me look shorter coz' it was taken from a kinda high position. Lousy photo- grapher.

This was on the 07/07/07 when I was at the Crowne Mutiara Plaza Hotel attending an accounting fair or whatever you wanna call it called ACCA careers. It was kinda interesting and unique at the same time. A very different experience for me I'd say. At least I knew what kinda companies I'd most probably be working for in the future. Literally wasted one day in BB doing nothing later that same day. That same day, I watched Chicken Little on Disney channel. I was like thinking it's supposed to be a good movie. Well, it isn't a good movie. It sucks. And, it blew my day :D .
No more Mach-3, or whatever for me now. Strictly razor blades when I'm shaving now. I'll tell ya something, they're dangerous creatures if you misuse them. Needs skill and technique to be able to use em'. And if you're emo, better stick to normal shaving blades. Don't use traditional razor blades. The traditional one's are for men, and traditional men don't get emo ;p .

And by the way dudes here, I'm running for Vice President of Stamford College's student committee. If you're eligible for a vote, please vote for me :D . Thank you.

Woohoo! A friend of mine got me this on his trip to India. It's great! Reminds me of the time my mum, dad and sister went there though. I was 5 then and had to stay at home with my brother and grandma. Haizzz... But, what the hell... I'm not really the traveler type... I'm more of the lepak-ing type ma... :D
Yesterday, at AsiaCafe. Something happened. Haha, does it really matter though? No it doesn't. Lepak-ed with Fariu. Haha, he was more into the holiday mood and I managed to kick him back into the highly inspired mode :D . Played pool and beat him like almost every round... Reminds me of the Jackie Chan drunken kung fu. Great game though!

Lads and gents, firstly allow me to correct my earlier phrase. Lads refer to men and gents refer to men too :D .One more time then.

Ladies and gentlemen,
Homosexuality is seriously becoming an issue. And basically, I do not agree to it. I can accept it, but I will not agree to it. It's a non negotiable issue. Gays and lesbians suck! I think it's a call for desperation. Coz' desperate people take desperate measures for desperate situations. People, do not be desperate please. The world ain't gonna end so soon.
What can we do about it? Make sarcastic remarks when you see a homosexual. A suggested phrase from me to you will be... "Ewwwwww... Even animals can differentiate male and female"
or
"(Whistle aka Phewwwiitttt :D) Gay/lesbian man!"

In newspapers today, it is stated that there are about 3 million smokers in Malaysia. It really shocked me. Roughly, I'd say there are 27 million people in Malaysia now. So, the smoker ratio would be 1:9? No way! That's seriously without doubt, a lot understated. And btw, 20% of smokers start in primary school. I suppose they die even quicker too. Primary school is a lil' too early la... I mean a lot. And, the government has increased the cigarette prices again. I dunno when the new prices are effective though. An extra 3 cents per stick.
