The numbers were a bit disappointing with only about 12 of us making the trip this time around but with the smaller numbers we had a close knit group and lots of enjoyable conversation. The sun was a beast and with a gray dreary sky taking pics was very tiring but we made the best of it. We traveled along the south coast making stops at a couple old train stations, a mud lake, lovers leap, treasure beach among other places.

Stay tuned to my flickr page for the pictures from this trip over the next few days. Most of the pictures or of my beautiful model (and girlfriend) and as usually this trip offered excellent opportunities for practice and trial and error.

The picture set is called Star Wars figures and chipmunks and when I surfed into the images earlier today I was having a really bad day and before I knew it I was chuckling away at the computer screen while viewing these pictures.

I am sure they will have you giggling too. I like this style of comical photography that is much more than a posed studio set up, one of a gazllion portraits or a famous landmark that has had so many pictures taken of it from every concievable angle. I hope to be able to try something like this one day.

Our trip took us to many locations including the Spanish Town Iron Bridge, Rio Cobre Dam, Flat Bridge, Walkers Wood, Lyme In and White River. At the beginning of the year we started a project to have members participating more in the group. Each month we decide on a theme to snap pictures for and this month’s theme was “Light Source” and the aim was to use a traditional or nontraditional light source to creatively create an image and share it with the group.

I am the darkness

We had 12 entries, mine being the one above where I used a flashlight in pitch black conditions to light half of my face. It is now my background picture at work. Two of my favorite entries are viewable below.

People, especially children, attract me. I rarely ever ask people to pose, or place them in a studio like setting, because they are way more interesting in their comfortable surroundings. Initially there may be self consciousness because they think that the usually impoverished surroundings are something to be ashamed of. Establishing a rapport is really important to get a great snapshot of their life.

I’m like to think that I have grown a bit in the year and a half since I got my can and took up photography as a serious hobby. I am still am amateur but I think I have graduated from the photography newbie title. It was nostalgic looking over some of the 50+ posts I’ve made on this blog over the past 18 months and I am even more excited about what the future will bring for my photography and this blog.

It’s been a long time since I unpacked my camera and snapped this picture

My first blog at Jamaipanese.com has always gotten the majority of my blogging time and energy but I am looking forward to putting more effort and time into my blog posts here while using the experienced gained from blogging there. It will take a while for me to grow the readership here but I am up for the challenge. I look forward to fousing on posts sharing my information of my experience taking photographs as well as to share what I have learned so far with others. I look forward to the continued support of the few readers I have so far as well as appealing to and gaining a growing audience for my potography and blog posts.

I still have a lot of work to do organizing the pages and categories as well as more customization and fiddling around with plugins and the backend of my blog but I should be capable. Look forward to the continued transformation of this blog over the next couple weeks.

I am years away from even considering going pro and I don’t make any money at all from photography so I am not even semipro. It’s time I star making steps to move up from being am amateur.

I still can’t afford or justify the expenditure (especially in these economic times) on a DSLR camera although I want one so badly but I can make he most of he very capable camera I have now. I’ve been thinking long on hard on the way to move forward and the list belwo is some of the things I need to work towards achieving.

  • Upgrade blog to latest version of wordpress
  • Change to a cooler looking and more functional blog template
  • Organize, optimize and start promoting my photoblog more
  • Get an “Eyeshrine Photography” logo done
  • Print, matte and frame my first photographs
  • Start making attempts to sell some of my photographs
  • Enter the JCDC Competition for the first time this year
  • Experiment and take more photographs

That’s it for now but I am pumped up and hope I can remain motivated and start getting more things done.

All together it was a good link-up with a big group and lots of new faces. My experimentation with photography continues and I will be updating my Flickr page with images everyday for the next few days. Below are a couple I have uploaded so far.
