Shocking Pink Congo

I was meandering through the papers the other day and came across the work of Richard Mosse in The Guardian. He uses infrared film to capture his images to pretty spectacular effect. His site showcases work he has done in the DRC, an example of which is below.

As for me, well I seem to have inadvertently tuned out of photography for the last few months. Of course, this has been due in no small part to the addition to our family, Emily, who was born last year. I found that the nature of the images that I have been inclined to capture has inevitably changed. I am less likely to spend time in urine soaked alleyways taking pictures of street art for example and more likely to capture my daughter covering her face with peanut butter, or jam, or both… that said, I am finding that increasingly my creative mojo is returning. Despite the site ticking over, I have been neglecting things a touch. Hopefully, sooner rather than later I’ll be adding some new galleries and posting a few images of my own here. In the meantime, in sharp contrast to shocking pink images of conflict in Congo, this is Emily Rose.

Light Graffiti by Michael Bosanko

Click here to check out the work of the Welsh artist Michael Bosanko. He uses coloured torches and a digital camera with the shutter left open on a long exposure to create these “light graffiti” photos.

Beavering Away in London and Paris

My last blog post was over a month ago. That may lead some to think that I am the very definition of laziness. Not so, quite the opposite. ‘To beaver away’ is an important but infrequently used verb. So you can imagine how delighted I am to use it here… I have been beavering away behind the scenes, formatting this image, tweaking that image, travelling here and occasionally visiting there. The sum total of my efforts is the addition of five new galleries, four of which are the result of recent trips to Paris and London. The galleries can be accessed through the thumbs below.

The C215 gallery features the stencil work of Christian Guémy. He’s a stencil graffiti artist based in Paris who has become well known for his intricate portraits and distinctive style. He started spray painting in 2005 and since then his work has appeared on walls all over the world and as one off works of art. While in Paris recently I saw his first solo show in the city at the Galerie Pierre Cardin. His work also features in the Leake Street and Shoreditch galleries on my site. I would encourage everybody to check his MySpace page for more his work.
