How many teaspoons in a tablespoon?

Wonder where the 1/8th cup went to…

I had my tea towel designs printed on linen by Spoonflower, and then stitched them up myself. I’d love to do a wider variety of design for fabric.

The 2010 United States Social Forum (USSF 2010) was a profound event – a time and place upon which social justice-seeking individuals and groups from across the States converged to do many things in a matter of just five days. Organizers term it a movement-building process, and those who attended called the Forum “a collective space that emitted a productive sense of solidarity, unity, progressive voice and vision that I’ve never experienced [before].” At the USSF 2010 in Detroit, participants and organizers hosted myriad cultural and political events throughout the forum, and held an incredible 1,086 workshops.

This is all to say: this thing needed one heck of a program book.

The cover was created from the building blocks of USSF’s graphics suite, conveying both a seriousness about the work to be done, and a deep hope for what our collective future can hold.

As part of the Forum’s commitment to ensuring accessibility, program contents were printed in Spanish and English. This was carried into the tab organization of the publication, to facilitate easy navigation of all 120 pages for as many readers as possible.

The back cover includes a wink to all the Detroiters in attendance, whose pet name for their city is The D.

This wedding was one of the most special days I’ve been a part of, ever. I still can’t believe I was lucky enough to design invitations for it.

I created different patterns for nearly every side of every bit of paper, drawing inspiration from, really, the couple themselves. As with their Save the Date cards, I drew elements from their home, which is filled with vintage textiles, feathers & dream-catchers, art & music (both their own and friends’), and happy animals. C & S wrote all the text themselves, and I love their balance between beautifully lyrical phrasing, and completely casual.

Wedding photos by Kari Nye & Tesni Stephen. (That’s me in the center of the pyramid, second row, laughing hysterically through the mild discomfort.)
