AlanD, given that poster then goes on to list all of the reasons why it would not make any sense for a team to want to actively sabotage a driver, the “I’ve done the research” comment was clearly intended as sarcastic mockery of pcxmac’s claims to “research” a topic.

I saw an image comparison between last & this season’s editions at that marginal left curve where the pit building roughly ends, & I’m unsure whether the precise solid white line positioning was actually different this time around or just an optical illusion caused by the space being covered with Cadillac’s stuff compared to the same garage being unused.

However, the pit exit itself has been identical for a long time, so only the left curve in front of the garage space closest to the exit was altered, if anything, & in this case, the space would remain unchanged for future Monaco GPs, so perhaps FIA should just outright ban any line that cuts over the pit box area used by the last-placed team in previous season’s championship (or a new entrant, depending on the season).

How about just watching the races with one’s eyes open?

While I wouldn’t go as far with my conspiracies as pcxmac, and I can certainly understand that one team / 2 drivers can occasionally create scenarios where a favourite must be chosen, Mercedes seems to be going through a phase where they’re actively sabotaging one of their drivers to the benefit of the other.

The “traditional” stop/go penalty still exists, but is reserved for the most dangerous offences (like entering a closed pit lane or ignoring double waved yellows). The 5/10 second pit stop penalties were introduced to give the stewards more options to penalise conduct that didn’t warrant a stop/go or drive-through.

Nothing was adjusted at the pit ext, not even the precise fast lane ending point, which has been the same for a while, including in 2013, 2014, & 2016 with the same team amount, & for that matter, also in 2010-2012 with one more team than, so nothing has changed on this front, or otherwise, adjustments to pit exit would’ve been/would be done on all circuits.

Therefore, nothing to do with Cadillac, except regarding their pit box, if anything, because all other drivers marginally cut over their pit box area with their left tyres, which the FIA had noted to them, although nothing was mentioned in the race director’s event notes about this, the short-cutting at the pit entry curve, or the pit exit position.

All in all, the pit lane speeding matter in the race was about the shortcut line drivers regularly take at the pit entry, the line they took when passing the Cadillac garage, & even the marginal shortcut shortly before the pit exit line.

You would think any celebrity or security personnel given passes for the grid walk would also be given a large flyer with Brundle’s mugshot on it with the pass; warning them not ignore this person or dis him, as literally ten’s and ten’s of millions of people will be watching it live, and you may turn into the joke of the day; and generate many clicks and infamous meme’s that you were hoping not to get : )

Agree, this was not speeding, it was taking a shorter route than calibrated against the average speed detectors. Road average speed traps measure shortest distance. If the drivers could take a shorter route, legally, then this should have been measured. I think FIA would struggle to prove a speeding violation in court!

You’re not kidding. Just look at this season as an example of just that by how drastic of a change in performance Aston Martin is under Newey!
Maybe next year they can drastically improve to get back to at least matching their 2025 speed : )

Certainly not the prettiest perforce but a win is a win, and AM scoring any point this season is a total win for them, they’ll take it any way they can get it; even though it had a lot to do with other teams attrition and penalties to help them get there. I bet Alonso is laughing on getting that point.

I would be quite surprised if Alonso continues on with AM next season, unless they can categorically prove to him that he can podium; but the problem with that, AM pretty much told Alonso the same thing last summer. So we’ll just have to see.
