2011 F1GP Predictor Review

Congratulations to joe_f_10 who finished first in the F1GP Predictor for the second year running. It was a tough battle for first place, and in the end, it came down to the pole time prediction that joe_f_10 picked in the final race! Congratulations also to h0psing who finished second in the competition and George who finished third. George took the Gantech honours for the season ahead of Arch who finished in fourth place. And in fifth place, mustang54 snatched the third prize for the season with only eleven points separating fifth to eighth place. Full season results are listed on the Results page.

Second place winner h0psing wins a Defensive Driving Course valued at $285 donated by John Bowe Driving. 2011 Brazilian Grand Prix Review

Mark Webber finally broke through for his only win of the 2011 season with a win in Brazil for Red Bull Racing. Webber’s team mate Sebastian Vettel dominated the early part of the race but suffered overheating issues with his gearbox which forced him to slow down and handed the race to Webber. Red Bull dominated the race and even with the gearbox issues Vettel was able to hold on for second place ahead of Jenson Button who finished third for McLaren.

2011 Brazilian Grand Prix Qualifying

Red Bull Racing’s Sebastian Vettel took his fifteenth pole position of the year in Brazil, breaking the all time record for most pole positions in a season previously held by Nigel Mansell. Vettel qualified in first position with a blistering lap that was the only sub 1m12s lap of the day. Vettel’s team mate Mark Webber made it an all Red Bull front row qualifying in second place ahead of the two McLaren drivers, Jenson Button in third place, and Lewis Hamilton in fourth place.

2011 Brazilian Grand Prix Preview

The Brazilian Grand Prix this weekend rounds out the Formula One season for 2011. With both Championships decided weeks ago, only minor honours remain up for grabs. Jenson Button for McLaren and Fernando Alonso for Ferrari are separated by only ten points for second place in the Driver’s Championship. Red Bull’s win-less Mark Webber trails Alonso by twelve points and although he can still mathematically finish in second place will require very poor results from the drivers ahead of him in the standings to achieve this. Lewis Hamilton is only six points further back and cannot finish second, but will challenge Alonso and Webber for third place in the title.

2011 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Review

Lewis Hamilton took advantage of circumstances to take his third victory of the season for McLaren in Abu Dhabi. Sebastian Vettel retired on the first lap of the race to register his first DNF for the season, whilst team mate Mark Webber could only manage fourth after trouble in the pits with a sticky wheel nut, making it the first race of the season that Red Bull did not have a driver on the podium. Fernando Alonso for Ferrari finished in second place and took the fight up to Hamilton, but Hamilton had the pace when he needed it to take a welcome victory.

2011 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Qualifying

Red Bull Racing’s Sebastian Vettel took his fourteenth pole position of the year in qualifying for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. McLaren pair Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button took the challenge up to Vettel but had to settle for second and third grid positions respectively when Vettel yet again pipped them at the post at the end of the final qualifying session. After Button set the time to beat at 1:38.631, Hamilton squeezed in just nine thousandths of a second quicker at 1:38.622. But Vettel managed to go another fourteen hundredths of a second quicker on his final flying lap to register a 1:38.481.

2011 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Preview

The Formula One championship turns to Abu Dhabi this weekend which holds a unique twilight race that starts in daylight and finishes under flood lights. Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel has shown no signs of backing off since claiming the 2011 title, and has won both previous races at Abu Dhabi. He will start favourite to take his twelfth win of the season. The battle for second place in the championship still continues with McLaren’s Jenson Button currently holding a thirteen point lead over Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso. Mark Webber for Red Bull is also still in with a chance to challenge for second place, only six points behind Alonso.

2011 Indian Grand Prix Review

Sebastian Vettel led every lap of the race in yet another dominant performance for Red Bull Racing to take the inaugural Indian Grand Prix title. Only Jenson Button was able to keep in touch with Vettel throughout the race; the McLaren driver cutting the gap to within three seconds at times. But Button wasn’t able to get close enough to challenge for the lead and by the end of the race he trailed Vettel by eight seconds. Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso held off a challenge from Mark Webber at the end of the race to take the final podium position.

2011 Indian Grand Prix Qualifying

Any thought of Sebastian Vettel easing his foot off the gas pedal after having sewn up both championships for Red Bull was put to rest; the double world champion taking his thirteenth pole position of the season in India. Lewis Hamilton registered the second best time of the day for McLaren just three tenths of a second behind Vettel. However Hamilton will start from fifth place after receiving a three place grid penalty because of an incident in Friday practice. Third fastest time of the day went to Mark Webber in the second Red Bull; the Australian benefiting from Hamilton’s penalty to be promoted to the front row.

2011 Indian Grand Prix Preview

The first ever Indian Grand Prix will be held this weekend at the Buddh International Circuit in New Delhi. It’s all new for all teams and both the Driver’s Championship and Constructors Championship are all sewn up. However Jenson Button for McLaren, Fernando Alonso for Ferrari, and Mark Webber for Red Bull are separated by only 13 points in the battle for second place; and McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton is only another 13 points further back from Webber.
