There are different reasons why you may not be able to access your account and unique ways to contact Facebook for each case. Therefore, it is important to be sure that you are using the correct channel when submitting a request for help. First, identify the correct reason why you are unable to access your account from the three reasons that are listed below. Then, follow the instructions listed by the reason that pertains to you.

Disabled for violating Facebook's Statement of Rights and Responsibilities
Facebook accounts that have been reported or detected for policy violations may be disabled by Facebook. Possible reasons include, but are not restricted to:
- Continued prohibited behavior after receiving a warning or multiple warnings from Facebook
- Unsolicited contact with others for the purpose of harassment, advertising, promoting, dating, or other inappropriate conduct
- Use of a fake name
- Impersonation of a person or entity, or other misrepresentation of identity
- Posted content that violates Facebook’s Statement of Rights and Responsibilities (this includes any obscene, pornographic, or sexually explicit photos, as well as any photos that depict graphic violence. We also remove content, photo or written, that threatens, intimidates, harasses, or brings unwanted attention or embarrassment to an individual or group of people)

Security disabled
Accounts that have been reported or detected as hacked or phished may be disabled by Facebook. If you think your account was disabled for security reasons, refer to the Security section of the Help Center to find the correct contact form.
Can't log in due to access issues
If you are disabled, you will clearly see a "Disabled" message when you try to log in to your account. If you do not see this message, then your account is not disabled and you are simply experiencing login issues. You should refer to the Login and Password section of the Help Center to find the correct contact form.

Examples of login issues include:
- Inability to log in due to password problems
- Inability to log in due to an error message (e.g., "Site Maintenance," "Invalid/Unregistered Email Address," etc.)
- Inability to log in due to forgetting one's login email address or password
- Other technical difficulties accessing Facebook

I have been blocked from using a feature.

Facebook has policies to stop behavior that other users may find annoying or abusive. Even if you did not have this intention, Facebook systems have determined that you were repeatedly using the same feature in a short period of time.

Since you did not adhere to previous warnings, a temporary block was set on your account. Here's what you should keep in mind about your block:

This temporary block will last anywhere from a few hours to a few days.
Attempting to use this feature while you are blocked can extend the block.
We cannot lift this block for any reason, so please be patient and refrain from using this feature for a few days while waiting for this block to be removed.
Once you are allowed to use this feature again, you must significantly slow down or stop this behavior. Further misuse of site features may result in more blocks or your account being permanently disabled.

Unfortunately, Facebook cannot provide any specifics on the rate limits that are enforced. The threshold at which you are warned is not a specific number, but rather determined by different factors, such as speed, time, and quantity.

Please keep in mind that only your confirmed friends can contact you via Facebook Chat. We recommend that you remove this user from your Friend List. If necessary, you may block the person using the "Block List" option available from the bottom of the Privacy Settings page.

How do I delete or look through my Chat History? Is it saved permanently?

You can view recent conversation history by opening a chat window with your friend. At this time, you cannot view older conversations or conversations with friends who are not currently online.

To clear your Chat History, click the "Clear Chat History" link at the top of your Chat window. While Chat History is saved from page to page, and even between login sessions, please note that it is not logged permanently.

How do I prevent a friend from chatting with me?

You can block a friend from chatting with you by putting them on a Friend List, and then choosing to go offline to that Friend List.

If you would prefer that this individual no longer be able to contact you on Facebook, you can also block them from interacting with you on Facebook.

You can tag the following things in a post:

Your confirmed friends
Pages you are a fan of
Events you are attending
Your groups
Applications you’ve used

To tag any of these things, enter the "@" symbol followed by the name.

Groups will show a group icon next to their name in the drop-down menu, and events will show a calendar icon. Pages will show the Page photo, and profiles will show the profile photo.

When you tag an application, the link in your post will lead to the application’s Page. You can only tag applications that you have used.

How does the Publisher work?

The Publisher lets you share content on Facebook. It is located at the top of both your home page and on your profile. Both locations offer the same functionalities.

Typing in the Publisher text box and clicking "Share" updates your status. Clicking inside the text box displays additional types of content that you can share:

Link (add a web address to external content)
Photos (upload a photo, create an album, or take a webcam photo)
Video (upload a video or record a webcam video)
Note (add from Facebook’s Notes application)
Import (add external blogs or RSS feeds)
Gifts (add from Facebook’s Gift Shop)

Once you have added content, you will still need to click "Share" in order to publish a story. To exit the submenu for a specific type of content, simply click the "X" in the upper-right corner of the Publisher box.

The Publisher also allows you to select a privacy setting for every post you make. After clicking inside the text box, or attaching your content, look for the lock icon next to the "Share" button. Clicking on it will bring up a menu that lets you choose who will be able to see your post, from Everyone, to Friends, to Friends of Friends.

If you type in the Publisher box and then add content (e.g., a link or a video), the text will appear as a comment above the content you have shared. It will not appear as a new status update or replace your current status.

How do I edit my Wall privacy settings?

You can control who is allowed to see specific elements of your profile from your Privacy Settings page, which can be accessed from the Account drop-down menu at the top of every Facebook page.

To remove a particular Wall story:

Hover your mouse over the right corner of the Wall story
Click the "Remove" button

To control the types of content that can be seen on your Wall:

Go to the Privacy Settings page from the Account drop down menu
Click on the "Profile Information" link.
Update the "Posts by Me" and "Posts by Friends" sections to your desired privacy level. For example, if you only want your friends to be able to see your Wall, simply adjust the settings for both of these options to "Only Friends."

To turn off Wall stories published by specific applications:

Go to the Application Settings page from the Account drop down menu.
Click the "Edit Settings" link next to the application you would like to edit.
Select the Additional Permissions tab in the box that appears and uncheck the box next to "Publish recent activity to my Wall."
Click the "Okay" button.

Phishing is an online attempt to trick a user by pretending to be an official login page or an official email from an organization that you would have an account with, such as a bank or an email provider, in order to obtain a user’s login and account information. In the case of a phishing login page, the login page may look identical to the login page you would normally go to, but the website does not belong to the organization you have an account with (the URL web address of the website should reflect this). In the case of a phishing email, the email may look like an email you would get from the organization you have an account with and get emails from, but the link in the email that it directs you to takes you to the above phishing login page, rather than a legitimate login page for that organization.

To prevent your account information from being obtained in a phishing scheme, only log in to legitimate pages of the websites you have an account with. Please note that is not technically possible to hack a Facebook group. As long as the current administrators of a group keep their login details secure, keep their account enabled, and do not allow any suspicious people to become admins, then the group will remain secure. Please note, however, that if a group is left without an admin, any member will be able to assume that role. If this situation occurs, we encourage you or the former admin of this group to contact the current admin to resolve this matter. Unfortunately, Facebook is not able to add you back as an admin for any group.

In addition, as long as the group does not contain information that violates our Terms of Use, we will not take any action it. First, please make sure that you received this request at an email address that is listed on your account. If the request was sent to a different email address then it will not show in your account. You can send the other person a friend request from your account, or you can ask them to request you as a friend again at the appropriate email address.

Please make sure that you received this request at an email address that is listed on your account. If the request was sent to a different email address then it will not show in your account.

In addition, if someone deactivates his or her account, you will not see the friend request on your Home page.

Feel free to send the other person a friend request from your account. Alternatively, you could ask them to request you as a friend again at the appropriate email address.

How do I view the pending friend requests I've made?

Unfortunately, a list of pending friend requests is not available. You can, however, determine the status of your friend request with another user when you find them in search. The "Add as Friend" link will appear if you have no pending friend request with them. If you have a pending request with them, "Friend requested" will appear instead. If the "Remove friend" link appears, you two have confirmed your friendship.

I sent somebody a friend request but they did not receive it.

Please provide adequate time for the person to take action on the request as they may have missed the notification email or may have not seen it on their Home page yet. If you sent this request using the Friend Finder, please make sure that you sent it to an email address that is listed on this person's account. If the request was sent to a different email address, then it will not appear in their account.

People are appearing on my Friend List without me sending them a friend request.

Friend connections on Facebook must be confirmed by both users involved. This happens through an initial friend request or invitation to join the site and a confirmation of the request by the recipient. It is not technically possible to become friends with someone without this confirmation.

A friend request can be sent manually or through features like Friend Finder and Classmate/Co-worker Search.

When using these features, please be aware that multiple friend requests and invitations can be sent simultaneously. If a user signs up through these invitations, they will automatically be added to your Friend List.

A large number of my friends have disappeared.

The security of your account may have been compromised. Please select a unique and complex password that is different from other passwords that you use on the Internet, and keep this information completely to yourself. You can reset your password by using the "Change Password" field on the Account page.

You should also make sure that all email addresses associated with your account are secure. Remember that anyone who can read your email may be able to also access your Facebook account. Additionally, please make sure that you log out of your Facebook account after each use and "quit" your browser when you’re done using the site. Never check the "Keep me logged in" box when logging in from a public computer or someone else’s mobile device, as this will keep you logged in even after you close your browser window.

To suggest a friend to someone, take the following steps:

Click the "Suggest Friends for [Name]" link found at the bottom of any friend's profile page. Or, after confirming a friend request from a new user, click the "Suggest friends that he/she knows" link. A window of all of your friends will appear.
Select the friend(s) you want to suggest. To find a particular friend, you can type their name in the "Find Friends" field or scroll through your complete Friends List. You can click the "Filter Friends" drop-down to sort your friends by network or Friend List.
Once you make all of your selections, click the "Send Suggestions" button. Each friend that you selected will receive an invitation to add the new user as a friend.

Just use Facebook Search to find the person you know and then click on the "Add as Friend" button to the right of their search listing. A friend request will be sent to that person. Once they confirm that they actually are friends with you, they will show up on your Friends List.
