Hi.

This is being written and sent from High River, Alberta, Calgary where we are enjoying the week reconnecting with friends through the years and meeting new wonderful people, too. Perfect combination.

For the intensive 2 ½ day introductory course, thirteen engaging and adventurous individuals have joined in the adventures.

Thank you, Pam, for organising it all and helping make everything flow smoothly!

Please do stay in contact, sharing your questions and new ways of using the face reading tools.

Sending my best wishes to you,

4. Frequently Asked Questions

5. May Face of the Month

- – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – -

1. Mirror images - Observing the differences and similarities between the left and right sides of a person’s face provides another layer of information about that individual. In this way we can get clues as to how consistent or inconsistent a person is, how they are in private as opposed to a public or social mask they might wear. See section 4 – FAQ, for additional information.

2. Personality profiling – Each human being is unique and complex. However, there are also many similarities and generalised behaviour patterns or personality programmes that can be observed and interpreted. Using the tools to identify the separate and blended personality types, we learn to recognise and assess basic personality types, their associated beliefs, behaviours and attitudes. We also learn the positive as well as the uncomfortable aspects of each of these ‘personality progammes’ and explore ways to most effectively interact with the various programmes – socially, professionally and personally.

3. Glenna’s reading of the April 2012 Face of the Month – I hope you compared the difference in the ‘public’ and ‘private’ sides of his face. Look through photos of Robbie through the years and let me know if you think the differences between the right and left sides of his face gets more pronounced as the years go by. In this specific photograph, he wears a ‘social mask’ in which his eyes appear friendly and approachable. A mirror image of his left eye projects a surprising level of hostility, grief and exhaustion. (Robbie Williams, singer.)

4. FAQ – “When comparing the right and left sides of a person’s face, what does it mean when it looks like two completely different people?”

Glenna replies – When observing such noticeable differences between both vertical halves of the face, we reach an entirely new insight into the meaning of the phrase ‘being two-faced’. Where there is a marked difference between the private (their left) and the public (their right) sides of an individual’s face, we must first explore the possibility of this being a result of an illness, injury or surgery. Once that has been addressed, the next level of explanation is that the greater the difference, the more complex the person is and the more complicated their life experience. An example is that some people compartmentalise their life, having completely different expectations of themselves in their professional role as compared to their private life (i.e. remaining incredibly serious in their work setting while being a complete joker in social settings). A different example is that of the con artist where the ‘social mask’ projects someone who is down on their luck and in need of your generous assistance whereas the private side of their face may well display overt cunning or other self-serving intentions. On the other hand, when the right and left sides of the face are more similar, ‘what you see is what you get’ … that individual’s personality is more consistent regardless of the situation they are in.

5. May Face of the Month.

There’s something for everyone with this months featured photograph. I am confident that new students and advanced ‘Face Readers’ have plenty of information to explore in my selected ‘Face of the Month’.

Global Webinar. I trust you all received the message that the Face Reading webinar I participated in with Patryck and Kasia Wezowski (Micro-Expression Specialists, Belgium) and Robert Phipps (Non-Verbal Language Expert, UK) actually took place on Monday, 26th March. I appreciate the feedback I’ve received from many of you. It fascinates me that technology allows for people in Australia, Belgium, Canada, Costa Rico, France, Germany, Great Britain, India, The Netherlands, Spain, and the US to be linked together in real time. I will answer one of the questions asked in the webinar in section 4 of this newsletter.

Always, I invite you to share your thoughts, questions, discoveries with me.

Cheers,

1. Decoding several layers of emotional expressions

2. What is face mapping?

3. Glenna’s reading of the March 2012 Face of the Month

4. Frequently Asked Questions

5. Try your skills with the April 2012 Face of the Month

- – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – -

1. Decoding several layers of emotional expressions - Emotional expressions provide a rich source of information in face reading. I encourage you to learn to recognise when the entire face is expressing each of the following emotions, happiness, sadness, fear, anger, contempt, disgust, surprise and serenity. Then pay attention if different parts of the face are displaying different emotions (for example, a smile in the eyes accompanied by a look of contempt on the mouth). Teach yourself to be aware of the sequence of emotions, in what order and at what speed they scroll across the face. Also look at what emotion(s) are deeply etched into the face. One other important layer to look for are the micro-expressions and leak through emotions which are harder to spot but provide a wealth of information. If you learn no other face reading tools, enhancing these skills alone will greatly increase your awareness and understanding of what others feel, think, and try to communicate.

2. What is face mapping? By dividing the face into nine sections and using specific tools for analysis, it is possible to gain a deeply profound and compassionate understanding of a person’s life experiences. Amongst other things, we gain insight into how they feel about themselves, what they expect of others and the world around them, and how they interact with others.

3. Glenna’s reading of the March 2012 Face of the Month –What strikes me most about the March Face of the Month photo is how dark the area around both eyes are and the fact that his left (‘private side’) eye is closed down so much. With the pull of gravity noticeable in every area of his face and the huge build-up above his eyebrows, I read into this photo exhaustion, excessive worry and depression. (Paul Burrell, who was Princess Diana’s butler.)

4. FAQ – “During the webinar, Robert Phipps talked about most of us having one dominant eye. Is there a direct link between the private side and dominant eye if my dominant eye is my left eye?”

Glenna replies – Great question, Christine. When Robert started talking about ‘dominant eye’ I immediately began putting the information through the face reading tools I’m familiar with. In doing some research, here is what I found: approximately two-thirds of the population is right-eye dominant, nearly one-third left-eye dominant and a very small percentage with neither eye as dominant. (As Robert Phipps pointed out in the webinar, eye dominance is not related to whether a person is left or right-handed.) Both hemispheres of the brain control both eyes, with each taking charge of a different half of the field of vision (a different half of both retinas). Dr. Lawrence D. Lampert, an optometrist in Florida, states that the dominant eye processes information 14 to 21 milliseconds faster than the non-dominant eye. The brain uses this dominant image as the main frame of reference while the second image, being a hair late to the party, is relegated to providing depth perception. Although Dr. Lampert specialises in sports vision, it may well follow that those who are left eye (‘private self’) dominant form their first impressions through ‘personal’ filters ahead of ‘social’ filters, whereas those who are right eye dominant might take their first impressions through their own ‘social mask’ filters.

In all the introductory classes, I encourage every participant to practice looking at a person’s ‘private self’ (their left half of the face) to get first impressions. When you do this, try to consciously use your dominant eye for a week, then switch to using your non-dominant eye for a week. Email me and let me know if you notice any differences in the nature of your first impressions of people.

Hello to you -

Glenna

In this issue -

Try your skill at reading the March Face of the Month

1. What is ‘physiognomy’?

2. What is ‘personology’?

3. Glenna’s reading of the February 2012 Face of the Month

4. Frequently Asked Questions

1. “What is physiognomy? – Physiognomy is the practice of estimating a person’s character, health and mental qualities through the study of facial features and qualities.

2. What is ‘personology’? – Personology was a term coined by Edward V. Jones (attorney and US Superior Court Judge) as he undertook close scientific examination of distinct facial characteristics and subsequently developed their relationship to basic personality patterns.

3. Glenna’s reading of the February 2012 Face of the Month – Okay … I missed this one! The February Face of the Month did not actually get posted on the website. My apologies for that oversight! It will now be the March Face of the month instead. Please send me your observations and I’ll give my ‘read’ in next month’s newsletter.

4. FAQ – “I am always won over by a smile and, when I meet a new person, never seem to see qualities that others find uncomfortable or questionable. Is it really possible to see these things in people’s faces?”

Glenna replies – Yes. Because a smile is indicative of such qualities as positive emotions, pleasure, friendliness and so forth, it is an expression that encourages trust and confidence. What is important to pay attention to is how much of the face is actually smiling. If it is only the mouth that is forming a smile, what is happening in the eyes? Do you see anger, sadness, or other emotions there? Also, I invite you to pay attention to the sequence of emotions. What series of emotional expressions do you see following the smile? For example, is the next expression one of contempt followed by an expression of disgust or anger? Learning to consciously observe expressions in various sections of the face and interpret sequence of emotional expressions are some of many valuable face reading tools. Do let me know how using this information assists you in getting a more accurate ‘first impression’ of people.

1 February 2012

Hello from beautiful Seattle -

At least we have recovered nicely from the snow/ice storms of January. We were not the only ones ‘camped’ at SeaTac Airport for 27 hours while nearly every flight was grounded until temperatures warmed enough to melt the sheets of solid ice covering all runways. Interesting experience.

We did make it to Banff, Alberta, Canada (photo above) in time for me to introduce face reading skills to a conference of nearly 400 Rural Doctors and Nurses. It was lovely to meet and work with so many dedicated and highly motivated individuals. One M.D. commented that these face reading tools are a benefit to the medical profession as they help practitioners “go straight to most important issues, or at least recognize that they may be present.” Every person who completed an evaluation indicated they would like to learn more of these skills. Since using face reading tools for many years has made such a positive difference in my life and work, it is deeply rewarding to be able to share this valuable information with others in a way they also find useful. My thanks to each of you who participated in the presentations.

I have been asked to review the very basics of face reading since many of the older newsletters are not accessible in the archives. So, beginning with this issue, I will do that. Hopefully it will be a great resource for those of you just beginning this journey and a fabulous review and practice for those of you who have been following this for a few years. As always, I invite you to share your thoughts, questions, discoveries with me.

Cheers,

Glenna

In this issue –

1. What is ‘face reading’

2. Various ‘tools’ for face reading

3. Glenna’s reading of the January 2012 Face of the Month (and further comments on photo of David Carradine featured on Homepage)

4. Frequently Asked Questions -

1. What is Face Reading? – All of us read faces. Seeing and reacting to a face is the method most of us use to form our first impressions of others and by reading emotional expressions of others we often gauge their reactions and opinions. But there is so much more to observe and understand about self and others through the study of face reading.

One basic premise of face reading is that each individual represents a walking history of her or his life’s journey. Our face is like a roadmap – revealing where we came from, where we are at the present time, and where we are going (unless we have a fundamental shift at core levels.

Our facial features, emotions and other qualities in the face can be ‘decoded’ or ‘read’ to reveal things such as attitudes, beliefs, health and behaviours.

2. Various tools for face reading - Since there are many layers of information imprinted on each person’s face, a variety of methods have been developed to increase the accuracy and understanding of human beings and human doings. In future issues I will be describing ‘physiognomy’, personology’, emotional expressions, face mapping, mirror imaging and personality profiling (from the face reading perspective).

3. Glenna’s reading of the January 2012 Face of the Month- Seems like you were pretty busy last month as I didn’t get too many ‘reads’ from you for the January Face of the Month. I always enjoy reading your insights, so please do not be shy about sending me your thoughts each month.

If you have not done so already, please do a mirror image of this photo. His ‘social mask’ (his right face) reveals focussed and immoveable determination as well as anger and sadness. Looking behind his mask, to the ‘real self’ (his left face) you begin to see the slight confusion and depression added to the anger and sadness. This is a photo of Colonel Mikolaf Przbyl as he was attending a military investigation into media links in Poznan, Poland. Immediately after defending his integrity and record of good service, he pulled out a gun and shot himself in the head. He survived and is speaking out from his hospital bed, stating he did this to expose ‘corruption in defence procurement contracts’.

What I see in this photo of David Carradine is the complete opposite in his ‘social mask’ (his right side half of face) and the ‘real self’ (his left side half of face). Publically he projects fierce determination and no small amount of angry/creative energy (even though there is an element of fear in his right (‘public’) eye, too). His private face reveals diminished energy and less resolve as well as a much deeper sadness. While his public self gave the impression of being unstoppable, on the personal side, he’s ‘running on empty’.

4. FAQ – ‘Is it possible to control your face to show only what you want others to see?’

Glenna replies – Not for someone applying more than one of the face reading tools when doing the ‘read’. During our early formative years, our body and mind act as one to respond to powerful influences in our life. We each form specific thought patterns and make essential decisions of ‘self’ based on these (or our perception of) earliest experiences. This information becomes ‘imprinted’ on our face through the repeated use or ’body building’ process of facial muscles which pull or push our features into recognisable alignments or characteristics. Experiences from this early time in our life is usually forgotten on the conscious level, but remembered in the subconscious. Most of us spend the rest of our life acting on these decisions without ever evaluating them. This results in our attitudes (hence the patterns in our face) becoming more pronounced and visible as we age. Because our face (and every other part of our body) is living tissue, it responds to changes we make in our life. Hence, what I said above, the face is like a road map that indicates where we have come from, where we are at the moment and where we are heading. So learning face reading is a powerful way to gain immense insight into self and others. It is a fascinating (if not always comfortable!) journey. Welcome aboard!

Geez, I’m a bit late with this newsletter, aye? I’ll make no excuses, but will share the news that I have had two very successful cataract surgeries in the past few weeks. Perfect eyesight is absolute magic and I thank Dr. Bassett and his team for their knowledge and skill. This will be a short newsletter … but I wanted to thank you for your patience and continuing interest in face reading. Please keep in touch.

Saif, the most prominent son of the now deceased Col. Muammar Gaddif, had been accustomed to weilding absolute power and, at the moment this photo was taken, was completely powerless.

This will be an interesting face to watch for changes over the next year if he is put on public trial by the new Lybian government.

Hello – and happy December wishes to you!

A major change has taken place … the WebWizard has finally succeeded in convincing me that I needed to learn how to blog. With much guidance, assistance and encouragement from him, I now venture into this new (to me) realm. Please continue sharing your ideas and thoughts with me – about face reading in general as well as what you’d like to see in the website/blog/newsletter.

Apologies to those of you in the UK who tuned into the BBC One Show on 16 November. Our programme on Face Reading was bumped for a very worthwhile Children In Need charity fund raising telecast. I have no idea when it might be on, but will let you know if I hear from the producer.

It is important to me that I once again thank WebWizard Richard as he has been dedicating hours and hours this month to setting up the blog and helping me learn to navigate my way through it all!

I wish you and yours a lovely season …

2. FAQ’s

1. Glenna’s reading of November 2011 Face of the Month

More than one of you commented on how severely sculpted this face appears to you, while others noted the recent grief expressed in his eyes (showing more in his ‘private’ face). This face is fairly congruent (similar ‘public’ and ‘private’ sides but there is a quality of intensity in his ‘social mask’ that softens considerably when you look behind his ‘mask’. Looking at characteristics from the combination of personality types listed below, this is a self-assured man who pays optimises his resources, is aware of his reputation and the impact/influence he can have on others. He is driven to succeed, caring, creative and can also display an explosive temper if pushed in a direction he does not want to go. He can be profoundly expressive and likewise, can be withholding and self-protective. I get the sense he would like the ability to have more privacy than his very public life allows.

For those studying personalities – LAM, AYM, Bootstrap, ORD, PANG and a touch of KEG.

2. FAQ’s – “How can it be that each characteristic means the exact same thing for absolutely every person?”

Glenna replies – I’m not sure I completely understand what you are asking, but I will try to explain the process of using the tool of ‘facial features and their associated meaning’. First, though, let me reiterate that face reading is neither an exact formula nor a proven science. However, the art of studying the face for insights into an individual’ state of health, behaviour and personality (sometimes referred to as physiognomy) has been practiced for hundreds of years.

Each feature of the face has general and specific meaning based on cumulative human observations and study. Undertaking this study, one has the opportunity to learn that while a specific feature (i.e. – eye, nose, lips, etc.) have general meaning applicable to everyone, it is the shape, size, relative placement and so forth that can have more specific and individual meaning.

Gaining a basic understanding of each of these encourages us to be more observant of detail, of what is … leading us to ask more questions and therefore, ideally, making fewer assumptions and generalisations. We open ourselves to realising each individual is unique and complex, while also displaying other aspects that are similar to others.
