Turquoise and Grey

Turquoise makes an elegant,contemporary statement paired with grey (see image upper left) and offers a serene, calm setting. And blues in general are favorites in the US and abroad.  Add orange and chartreuse and the drama steps up considerably.

I find the gold combination to be elegant and restful too but very reminiscent of the 1970′s.  This image is a fresh interpretation and quite classic.

Turquoise is  perfect throughout the house as an accent with existing décor.  Complementary with reds and pinks, it unites with deeper blues to join nautical themes and sparks up other greens. This year the hot, frequently shown look is turquoise with yellow-greens.

Cal Anderson Park was full of families, dogs, music, picnics and folks strolling to see the art. The project is the brainchild of MadArt whose mission “is to support emerging artists in the community, to bring art into our lives in unexpected ways, and to create community involvement in the arts.” I think with this  project they hit the mark.

Cal Anderson Park enjoys a long history in Seattle too.  My favorite inspiration in the park is the water feature.

Cal Anderson Park is a 7.3-acre park that was recently redesigned and features a fountain, texture pool, reflecting pool, promenade paths, a plaza, playground, wading pool, and sports field. Even a Glee flash mob for entertainment.

Can’t say I love the era of the 70′s construction as it’s not architecturally interesting to me. However, sitting on the water and offering incredible views and  an open plan, this opportunity to gut/remodel without altering the footprint will be exciting. I see playing with textures and the strong horizontal lines as a design direction. (New kitchen, powder room, pantry, laundry + windows will transform.) I am fortunate to work with Prestige Custom Builders on this project.

Titled Powder Room Talk-HGTV, the video updates surfaces but not wallpaper. But finding the perfect one for a 1970′s home on the water in Seattle will offer a chance to look at new looks and companies.  I began my search at Hermitage is a Home with Jennifer June. This is a fantastic site for wallpapers from smaller companies.

More about Tina’s garden – in addition to winning the sought after Golden Trowel from Garden Design Magazine, her garden has been featured in Seattle Homes and Lifestyles and Seattle Times’ Pacific Northwest Magazine and pictured in Sunset Magazine.  Her garden,rarely open to the public, features bold color and plant combinations, art created by local artisans and more than 20 creative, imaginative container gardens.

Surely, one of the best parts of my job is to see a project evolve.  But my clients have made that a virtual experience by capturing the construction using a web-cam.  Week after week, they share the view from the camera making me excited for the next week . I am able to see the shape and form of the addition unfold.

This video displays Week 8.  Included in the addition is a sitting room for the master bedroom.  One of my favorite aspects is the inglenook at the end of the covered patio.  I am pleased to work with the respected architecture firm, Gelotte Hommas, on the project. Scott Hommas sensitively and artistically interpreted the features my clients desired.  More to come.
