When I read in today’s news that actor Richard Gere “dissed” the movie Pretty Woman, calling it a “silly romantic comedy” and claiming that it “glorified greedy Wall Street traders”, I felt a bit annoyed and maybe even a bit betrayed by Mr. Gere’s thoughtless remarks. Okay, maybe it’s not your favorite movie, Dick, but what about all the fans who supported your career by going to see it? I personally have purchased the movie on several formats (VHS/DVD/Blu-ray) since its release. What about my hard-earned cash? Do I get a refund now that you’ve decided that the movie wasn’t up to snuff? No, I guess not. So, how am I supposed to feel about your negative comments now – years after the fact? Kinda stupid, I suppose. Why didn’t you voice your opinions about the film back then? I guess you wanted that paycheck and that popularity, Mr. Gere, and now that you have it, all of sudden, it’s not good enough for you anymore. Well, that kinda sucks, in my opinion.

In 1982, Mr. Gere received much critical acclaim and a Golden Globe nomination for the film An Officer and a Gentleman. After 1982, his career pretty much did a nosedive until Pretty Woman came out in 1990 and made him one of the most popular stars of the decade. It stands to reason that he should have a bit more respect for the film and its creators because, quite frankly, who/where would he be without it?

Pretty Woman may be the least favorite of all the movies you’ve made over the years, Richard Gere, but it damn sure is one of your most successful, so perhaps you should think about that before you open your mouth and offend people. When it comes to critiquing your films, perhaps you should leave that up to the critics. From now on, just smile, nod and be thankful for what you’ve got. I bet you’ll never hear Julia Roberts bashing the film. She’s way too smart (and classy) to bite the hand that feeds her.

There’s this so-called “review” site online (fanhosting.org) that rates all the current fansite hosts out there, but who owns this site really??? Who is Denis Foos (the only name I could find on the site on the Contact page) and why did this person feel the need to create this “review” site? Well, I did some research and lo and behold, the name Denis Foos comes up as the owner on another site’s Contact page: 4fans.net, which just happens to be another fansite hosting company that is also reviewed at fanhosting.org! Isn’t that interesting??? A fansite host owner owns a site that reviews other fansite hosts!

Now, if you look at the “review” page for fanstar.org, it says that I don’t give domains to established sites, but I do! It says that I don’t transfer sites from old hosts, but I do! The IM support and support board is spot on (I don’t currently provide those things), but I take support e-mails directly in my Inbox. How come it doesn’t say that on there? It says that I don’t have Ruby on Rails or ASP, but I do! No one’s asked to use them yet, but they are there when you are ready. The stuff about the ads and restrictions is very brief, but if you look on the page for the review of 4fans.net, the response is much more elaborate. They go into more detail about ads and restrictions. Does the owner of fanhosting.org and 4fans.net also own other fansite hosts, too???

I noticed that as soon as I made the post that I made before this one, I got a visit from someone at fanhosting.org. The widget on the bottom of my sidebar says so. Question: Why am I being watched so closely by this person, yet my “review” information hasn’t been updated for a while? What is up with that??? I’m not making this stuff up. Do the research for yourself! PEOPLE, do NOT base your opinions of fanstar.org or other fansite hosts on the so-called “reviews” of people that you don’t even know who you’re really dealing with, people who may have an agenda when it comes to making their company or their friends’ company look good and other companies look bad in comparison. There’s a whole lot of funny business going on around here. Time to let the truth be known. If you have any information about this person or people, feel free to comment. Thank you very much!

The posts that I made previously on this blog about design and content thieves have stirred up quite a mini-drama behind the scenes. I have received a few more e-mails from other people who have told me about their own (bad) experiences dealing with these people. In a new development, I received an e-mail from “Brianna” from Sweet Sounds Designs herself today that contained a lot of foul language and ignorance (and more bragging, of course). By the look of it, one can safely assume that this person has a lot to learn about a lot of things, namely grammar and spelling. I guess all this tough talk was supposed to frighten me or make me cry or something. I don’t know. Well, it did neither of those things. It only made me more convinced that I had done the right thing by outing them the way I did. She sounds good and mad in her e-mail, but that doesn’t surprise me, because when people want to do sneaky things behind people’s backs (like steal) they don’t like having that spotlight shined on them. There’s a really foul, rotten element of the Web that is making itself known right about now. There are people out there who want to make money and/or be popular, and they will do ANYTHING to make that happen. They will steal from you, they will lie about you, and they will harrass you. Don’t let these knuckleheads scare you. Stealing isn’t that hard to prove. Just look at the “designs” that they have made, then look at the better designs and icons that they also claim to have made – those designs exhibit a skill that these people obviously don’t have. It’s just a matter of common sense and sane judgement on the part of the people viewing them. So, I still intend to out these design and content thieves whenever the subject comes up in regards to FanStar.org hostees, but in addition to me doing it, I think that it would be nice if the people who’ve contacted me in the past with the proof that their designs were stolen by these people would “come out of the closet” and speak up about it in public as well. Put the proof on your site and speak about it so people can see it. I did not keep the original e-mails, but I will from now on. I don’t mind standing up for what’s right, but if you ALL stand up and support each other (and me) it will be more credible and less of it will fall back on me personally. Stand up for yourselves and speak out, people! Show everyone else what you have shown me in private! That’s all I have to say. The attached e-mail snapshot says it all. This is the kind of person that claims to be sweet and innocent. You judge for yourself.

This post is being made to remind you all about the rules, in case you have either forgotten them or didn’t read them in the first place. After your FanStar.org account has been setup and you have been sent your account information, you have TWO WEEKS to open your site to the public. If two weeks is not enough time for you to setup your site, then it is YOUR responsibility to contact me and ask for a time extension. Otherwise, it appears to me as if you have abandoned your site. I should not have to hunt you down to ask you when you are going to be opening your site. I have been contacting people as a courtesy, but that is going to stop as some of you are abusing the courtesy. If you don’t open your site in two weeks and you don’t contact me to request a time extension or help or whatever, your account may be deleted.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Thank you!

So, now I’m getting e-mails from Ariane Marie saying that she’s not the same as Sweet Sounds Designs. Funny thing is I see an earlier post on the Sweet Sounds Designs Twitter profile announcing a new theme at beyonceonline.org, but nowhere on the post does it say that the theme doesn’t belong to them!!! And to top it all off, I see the name of the hostee I spoke about in my earlier post (Blessing) on the top of the page who had the audacity to e-mail me and brag that she had a site elsewhere after I kicked her out of here for stealing someone else’s layout! At this point, I’m not really sure who is who, but they all seem to have the same bad habit of stealing other people’s stuff, so I don’t want any of them here at FanStar.org. DO NOT BUY FROM SWEET SOUNDS DESIGNS! Avoid that bunch because they are all thick as thieves and can’t be trusted.
UPDATE: I went back to double check Ariane Marie‘s Twitter profile, but it is now saying that the user does not exist. There’s another post on the Sweet Sounds Designs Twitter profile that says to someone else who inquires about FanStar.org that FanStar.org doesn’t give domains until you get 1,000 unique hits (THIS IS A LIE! I’VE NEVER SAID THIS!) and she’s telling them to go to FanFusion! Why am I not surprised to hear that name come up in conjunction with a lie??? I have NEVER said anything about 1,000 unique hits being a rule here! What a bunch of liars and thieves! I now wonder how many other people they’ve lied to to take possible hostees away from FanStar.org and send them to FanFusion? You are so busted! You are all liars and thieves!

I received another request for a free domain this morning from someone who put on the application that their name was Ariane Marie. I go to look at their Twitter page for a minute and find a post freaking out about how their beyonceonline.org account has been deleted. WTF? So Ariane Marie and Alicia Brandon and Sweet Sounds Designs must be the same person/people! All of this lying and stealing to get a free domain??? I’d be very careful about ordering any “designs” from these people, because they obviously can’t be trusted.

Last week, I made a post warning all FanStar.org hostees not to steal other people’s designs or content. Well, today I had to delete someone’s account because this person didn’t take me seriously. I had adopted out beyonceonline.org to Alicia Brandon, but this morning I received a complaint that the theme that she was using on her blog had been stolen. The person who complained sent me proof that the design was hers and explained that she had made it for another host’s hostees to use as long as her credit link remained. The theme author’s credit link had been removed and the theme had been “customized” to look like the hostee had created it. Apparently, this ex-hostee was trying to get me to buy her a domain for a design site that she wanted to open and she thought that the way to make that happen was to be deceitful. What burns me up the most is that Alicia’s response to my previous warning post was to e-mail me and tell me that she liked it and thought it was funny. I bet you it isn’t funny anymore.

As my current hostees all know, I do not allow themes to be used on my server that link to another host’s site, simply because I do not wish to pay to advertise someone else’s hosting over my own. You guys can understand that, right? However, that does NOT mean that you are allowed to remove any credit links that are requested by the author to remain on the theme. If you can not make your own themes, you can either have a custom theme made for your site by one of a hundred fansite designers OR you can find a theme that doesn’t require a link back to another fansite hosting company to use. FanStar.org does not currently offer free themes to hostees. I might do that in the near future, but as of now, I do not. Please be sure to follow the rules or risk losing your FanStar.org account. Sorry to start the day off with bad news, but sometimes that’s the way it is. More positive news is coming today, so please check back later for updates. Thank you.
