Will be available for first four games

ESPN sources: Chiefs WR Rashee Rice is expected to have his disciplinary hearing with the NFL on Tuesday, Sept 30 in New York. This means that Rice now is likely to be able to play the first four weeks of this season before any potential discipline is imposed for his role in a multi-car crash in Dallas during the 2024 offseason. (Adam Schefter on X)

FF Today's Take: This isn't great for fantasy GMs and it seems like the league is orchestrating this so Rice will be available for early-season marquee games against against the Chargers (Brazil), Eagles and Ravens. A four-to-six game suspension is still a likely scenario which would potentially occur in the middle of the season. Rice is currently valued at around WR24 in Half-PPR leagues.

        $30 million guaranteed

A deal has been reached: Two-time Pro Bowl RB James Cook and the Buffalo Bills reached agreement a contract extension, per his agents Zac Hiller and Matt Leist of LAA. The deal includes the most guaranteed money for a running back in the last five years. (Adam Schefter on X)

FF Today's Take: Cook ended his hold-in yesterday which helped move the process along and now a deal is done which is a 4-year extension and includes $30 million guaranteed. Cook posted a 1009-16, 32-258-2 line last season on his was to a RB10 finish in Half-PPR leagues. Bills GM Brandon Beane on RB James Cook's role: "We do see him as a three-down type of player. We do feel he can take more, but we like to use our three options and keep him fresh."

Shanahan: WR is "on track" to return around Week 6

Kyle Shanahan said all of the 49ers' ACL guys - including Brandon Aiyuk - are on track to be back around Week 6, he said. He said there's a range of weeks that Aiyuk could actually be back in a game, but that's the rough estimate at this point. (The Athletic - Matt Barrows)

FF Today's Take: This suggests that Jauan Jennings and Ricky Pearsall will each have a nice runway for the first half of the season if they can get healthy in time for Week 1. Given how uncertain Aiyuk's return date sounds, there is a world Jennings and Pearsall can operate as clear starters for at least half of the season. Outside of the receivers, Aiyuk's absence figures to boost the floors of Christian McCaffrey and George Kittle.

Packers QB expected to return in a few days

Packers GM Brian Gutekunst said QB Jordan Love is undergoing a procedure on his left thumb. It’s a ligament issue. That’s why he had it taped yesterday in practice. Said the hope is for Love to return to practice next week. (ESPN - Rob Demovsky)

FF Today's Take: It appears to be a minor issue. Fantasy managers would be wise to monitor his practice participation next week, although the good news is that the injury is to his non-throwing hand. Until further notice, continue to draft Love as a high-end QB2.

         Preseason Week 1

#Titans RB Tyjae Spears' initial injury diagnosis is a high ankle sprain per sources. (Turron Davenport on X)

FF Today's Take: We still need more information on Spears' injury but this isn't great news. Depending on the severity, Spears could be in danger of missing Week 1 which would leave Tony Pollard closer to a workhorse role. Spears dealt with ankle and hamstring injuries last season, playing in just 12 games.

         Spotted in a walking boot

Packers HC Matt LaFleur said he is hopeful that WR Jayden Reed will be ready for Week 1. Reed is dealing with a sprained foot that one source described as leaving him “day to day.” (Adam Schefter on X)

FF Today's Take: Reed did not play in the Packers pre-season Week 1 game Saturday against the Jets. LaFleur didn't describe the injury specifically so there's no real timetable for his return. The Packers have a number of options at the position including Romeo Doubs, Matthew Golden and Dontayvion Wicks who can handle receiving duties if Reed isn't ready for Week 1.

The first five rounds are vital for establishing the core of your fantasy team, but you’re not winning your league without some mid round bargains who can take you from a fantasy contender to a fantasy winner. Ankle injury

Bills HC Sean McDermott said he’s being told as of now that WR Khalil Shakir should be on pace to return for the start of the season.

Shakir is dealing with a high ankle sprain. (Joe Buscaglia on X)

FF Today's Take: High ankle sprains can linger so even if Shakir is ready for Week 1, it doesn't mean he's going to be near 100 percent. However, it does sound like the Bills will have their top wideout in some capacity to start the season. Shakir went down in practice on 8/3. His value is currently hovering around WR44 in half-PPR leagues.

We are a full two weeks into RazzBowl7 draft season, so it feels right to discuss players that will ultimately round out your roster depth. Some of these players are current back-ups who will fill in as starters during bye weeks and/or when injuries occur to other players. Please, blog, may I have some more?

Suspended for violating substance abuse policy

Discipline: NFL suspended Vikings WR Jordan Addison for the first three games of the 2025 regular season for violating the league’s Substances of Abuse Policy.

Addison now will miss games at Chicago, vs. the Falcons and vs. the Bengals. (ESPN - Adam Schefter)

FF Today's Take: The three-game suspension is about what most fantasy managers expected. The good news is that it might turn him into a slight value in fantasy drafts and the suspension ends before bye weeks become an issue. The bad news is that managers probably will not get enough of a discount on him to make him a flex or WR4 option in most drafts. During his suspension, Jalen Nailor stands a great chance of being flex-worthy.

WR returns to team who drafted him in 2013

Reunion: Six-time Pro Bowl WR Keenan Allen is signing with the #Chargers on a one-year, $8.52 million deal, sources tell me and
@RapSheet. (NFL Network - Tom Pelissero)

FF Today's Take: After leading the Bears in receiving during his one-year stay in Chicago, it is a mild surprise that it took until early August for a team to meet Allen's asking price. Regardless, Allen figures to take over primary slot duties while Ladd McConkey and Tre Harris live on the perimeter. McConkey may take a slight hit, but his managers should not be threatened by the possibility that he falls out of WR1 territory. On the other hand, Harris probably goes from a high-upside WR4 option to more of a WR5 with spike-week potential.

QB and GM thrilled with rookie's readiness

The Bucs surprised many when they used the No. 19 pick in April to select WR Emeka Egbuka. They'd just re-signed Chris Godwin to a three-year contract, they still have veteran Mike Evans playing well and their 2024 third-round pick, Jalen McMillan, caught seven touchdown passes in their final five games of the season. Some wondered if the Egbuka pick meant they were worried about Godwin's recovery from his season-ending ankle injury. But again, they just gave Godwin a three-year deal, so they couldn't be that worried. My takeaway from my time in Tampa is that the Egbuka pick wasn't about Godwin as much as it's about Evans, who turns 32 later this month and has reached the point of his career when he's deciding year-to-year how long he wants to continue. It was also about the need for depth at that position. But more than anything, it was about Egbuka, who is the talk of training camp. (ESPN.com - Dan Graziano)

FF Today's Take: Graziano goes on to say that while the Bucs aren't counting out Godwin for Week 1, they believe there's a chance he could miss a couple of games at the start of the season. He also expects Egbuka to be a big part of things for whatever time Godwin is out, and maybe even once he's back. Godwin appears to be a total wild card at this point, if only because he will need some time to ramp up and become a full-time player, and that's only if he doesn't have a setback. Egbuka is not a player fantasy managers should feel obligated to reach for (at least not yet), but he should be going much higher than his current Round 9-10 ADP.

Free-agent pickup enjoying a strong camp

If the coaches are listening to Tyreek Hill and looking for a replacement for De'Von Achane in short-yardage situations, keep an eye on veteran running back Alexander Mattison. Miami loves Achane and Jaylen Wright, and they drafted Ollie Gordon in the sixth round in April. But Mattison, the former Vikings and Raiders back, has opened a lot of eyes in camp and could be playing himself into a role. (ESPN.com - Dan Graziano)

FF Today's Take: This is the kind of news that virtually no fantasy manager wants to hear. Not only could it possibly put a cap on Achane's ceiling, but it would also make stashing Wright less meaningful. The odds are against Miami keeping four running backs on the roster, but it would say a lot about the backfield situation if the Dolphins choose to go in that direction.

RB expected to miss a few weeks with shoulder issue

49ers RB Isaac Guerendo is expected to miss “a few weeks” with a shoulder injury, per Kyle Shanahan. (ESPN - Adam Schefter)

FF Today's Take: Guerendo is no stranger to injuries. although hamstring issues have usually been his downfall. "A few weeks" is a vague timeline, but we can probably assume this injury will force him to miss every preseason game. While this injury may free up Christian McCaffrey to handle more of the early-season workload than most were expecting, it could also give rookie Jordan James a chance to make his case to be the No. 2 in San Francisco. James' preseason will be one to monitor as a result of this news.

WR expected to be used "in a thoughtful way"

The Bears will likely manufacture touches for D.J. Moore out of the backfield as well as a receiver - or both. Moore can line up in the backfield and still end up deep downfield for his targets.

Last season, Moore was relegated to hopeless screen plays and looked disengaged at times. The Bears will try to maximize his opportunities in a thoughtful way. (ESPN - Jeremy Fowler)

FF Today's Take: Even with the hype Rome Odunze is receiving this offseason and the additions of Colston Loveland and Luther Burden III, Moore will be no worse than a 1A or 1B option in the passing game. He probably won't run the ball as often as someone like Deebo Samuel, but it should be noted that he has handled at least 10 carries in three of his seven NFL seasons. Despite receiving a ton of hate from the fantasy community this offseason, Moore should be no worse than a serviceable WR2 again this season.

Expected to pick up where he left off late last season

(The Buccaneers) love (Bucky Irving), and while they also like Rachaad White and have a role planned for him, Irving is viewed by people in the building as special enough to warrant a high-volume RB1 role. That includes pass-catching work.

"His vision (makes him special). His timing of when he's supposed to hit the gas. He's patient, patient and then hits it. I just think he's always looking to score. It's tough to see in practice. Like, last year at this time I was like, 'Eh. We'll see. It looks good.' But didn't expect it to be like it was. He's just tough to bring down. He's strong, he's got great vision, he understands it, and then also you add in the ability to catch, too. He's well-rounded," Baker Mayfield told reporters recently. (ESPN.com - Dan Graziano)

FF Today's Take: Fantasy managers should not be overly surprised, but it would appear any talk about Irving losing work to White - as was the case throughout the first half of last season - should be taken with a grain of salt. While it seems unlikely that Tampa Bay would consistently give a sub-200 pound running back 20-plus touches for a full season, Irving regularly handled that kind of workload after the team's Week 11 bye. Do not hesitate to select Irving in the second round of fantasy drafts over the next month.

Bills top wideout will be held out of camp

Bills WR Khalil Shakir is week to week with a high ankle sprain (Joe Buscaglia on X)

FF Today's Take: Shakir missed a week (5) last season with an ankle injury as well. This version is likely to keep him out most if not all of training camp. Shakir led the Bills last season in receptions (76) and yards (821) in 15 games played. This injury will ding his fantasy value and lower his ADP which currently sits at WR44, 86th overall in Half-PPR leagues.

Surgery to fix broken bone in foot

#Ravens tight end Isaiah Likely suffered a small foot fracture during Tuesday’s practice, sources told @jamisonhensley and me. If all goes well, it’s an early season return and Week 1 is possible. (Jeremy Fowler on X)

FF Today's Take: Likely is scheduled to have surgery on his foot. The timetable for recovery is six weeks which gives him a chance to be available for Week 1. Even if he's ready for the start of the season, a slow or limited start should be expected. He's lost some of his ceiling but Likely should still be considered a strong TE2 by mid-season.

This is cut-and-dry. These are players I do not want to draft at their current cost or even at relatively lower prices. Most of these players would require multiple round falls for me to have any interest, as their prices in 2025 drafts are inflated due to name value, a “flukey” season, and/or a lack of injury information. Please, blog, may I have some more?

RB eyeing important role in Denver offense

Payton says J.K. Dobbins’ transition to Denver’s offense has been “swift.” Previously said it was important to get that deal done with the veteran RB in early June so he could enter the offseason break with the playbook. (The Athletic - Nick Kosmider)

FF Today's Take: Dobbins makes a ton of sense for managers in the middle to late rounds in large part because he enters his second full season post-injury and does so in a very good offense. While RJ Harvey is not Alvin Kamara and Dobbins is not Mark Ingram, no one should be shocked if that is how HC Sean Payton uses them. Considering how good the Broncos' defense should be in 2025, both backs could be in for a ton of volume.

         Week to week

Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, who is dealing with back soreness, will not return to practice next week as anticipated, coach Sean McVay said Saturday. Even after Stafford returns to practice, the Rams intend to keep the quarterback on a modified schedule. On Saturday, McVay said Stafford did not experience a setback, but that it feels like "the smart thing to do a week at a time with him." (ESPN)

FF Today's Take: We'll see how long Stafford sits, but it would be nice to see him out there practicing and developing a rapport with Davante Adams. At this point, it doesn't sound like Stafford's in danger of missing Week 1 but this situation should be closely monitored.

Expected to miss the start of the season at least

#Titans WR Treylon Burks suffered a fractured collarbone here at their stadium practice, per me and @TomPelissero.

Burks will undergo further tests, but he’s expected to miss the start of the season at least. A frustrating outcome for the young pass catcher. (Ian Rapoport on X)

FF Today's Take: Burks has struggled to stay on the field during his short three-year career never playing more than 11 games during a season. He was limited to 5 games last season due to a knee injury. The Titans will move forward with Tyler Lockett, rookie Elic Ayomanor and Van Jefferson all competing for targets behind Calvin Ridley.

Out an extended period of time

#Texans RB Joe Mixon, who is on the non-football injury list, is expected to be out an extended period of time with a frustrating foot injury, sources say.

The Pro Bowler coming off a 1,000-yard season will be reevaluated closer to the season to determine his availability. (Ian Rapoport on X)

FF Today's Take: Not great. Mixon has handled 285 and 309 touches in each of the last two seasons. Being injured before we even get to Week 1 is an ominous sign. He's ADP will be falling in short order. Nick Chubb Woody Marks, and Dameon Pierce are next up on the depth chart. Chubb comes with his own injury history but has been working as the No.1 back thus far in training camp.

As training camps start kicking off, it’s time to set our pre-season DST rankings based on off-season activity.
Once the season starts, I’ll provide weekly updates based on matchups but for now, these are the overall rankings.
Let me know what you think in the comments below. Please, blog, may I have some more?

Last year, Brock Bowers broke the mold, revolutionising the way rookie tight ends are used and stimulating a rush for early tight end picks in the 2025 NFL Draft. Between 2007 and 2023, only three tight ends have been selected in the first 16 picks but this year, both Colston Loveland and Tyler Warren were gone by Pick 14. Please, blog, may I have some more?

It’s funny. I had my pick of positions to rank – apart from wide receiver – and I picked my least-favorite position to tackle (pardon the pun).
Why do I keep hurting myself?
Perhaps because I need a jolt to shake off the rust? Please, blog, may I have some more?

Last year saw six quarterbacks in the first 12 picks but in 2025, the sixth quarterback was Shadeur Sanders after his infamous fall to the fifth round. So is there any fantasy value to be found?
I broke down over 20 years of fantasy data to assess the fantasy success of quarterbacks based on their draft spot. Please, blog, may I have some more?
