The second beetle pictured is not a spotted asparagus beetle. It’s actually a longhorn milkweed beetle (Tetraope tetrophthalamus).

It’d be appreciated to see that amended as it was one of the first images to come up on google when I was searching for assistance with the asparagus beetles in my garden.

Portsmouth/Piketon Residents for Environmental Safety and Security has been here for 40 years and broke every big story about this plant. We need the cancer addressed before anything else is put here.

Great read, Holly! Thanks.

For me as a kid, at least, summer sports taught me a lot about "resilience."

Win some--lose some.

A decent read--thank you, Paul.

Noted Civil War historian, Shelby Foote, was once asked what he thought an average Confederate soldier would say about why he was fighting. Foote's answer was: "Because you northerners are here on our land without our permission." Seemed to me it was a "private property" issue--whether enslaved people or land.

Nowadays I've seen a meme that offers some thought. It's a large picture of Lincoln's face with the words under it: "Don't leave me, or I'll kill you." That, I believe, goes to the Southerner's argument that they viewed the Declaration of Independence as well as the Constitution to be a consensual agreement. That is--states freely agreed to join the Union and thus could freely leave the Union.

Six hundred thousand lives settled that question.

I would hope that there is some outside funding available for this tiny community. Just the cost of a certified operator would tag at around $500 per home, not counting necessary repairs. My guess is that is why the local gov’t bailed out. A difficult, but necessary situation.

Water Hemlock and Regular Hemlock.
It infested my grapvines and so I will be destroying my vinyards.

It’s late May and some of my iris varieties have almost finished blooming, whilst others are just starting to bloom. I believe a lot of my plants are infected with the iris borer. I’d love to save my plants.
1. What is the best time to dig them up and remove affected rhizomes/re-plant healthy ones?
2. Can or should they be re-planted in the same bed/soil or should the soil be treated as well?
Thank you

You too have been one of the few to publicly speak out against the wrongdoings that happened there. Thank you for having the courage to come forward to let the world know just how bad things actually were/are there, and that everything isn't just fine as they always say it is. Praying for you and your continued health/safety.
