Eversource Urges Customers to Remain Vigilant Against Scams

Scammers use sly tactics to swindle money from unsuspecting customers

MANCHESTER, N.H. (April 21, 2021) — With scam artists aggressively targeting utility customers, Eversource is warning people to be on the lookout for new tactics being used so they don’t fall victim. Scammers continue finetuning their techniques, including using phony caller IDs that display “Eversource” and scripts that sound like a legitimate company representative threatening to disconnect their electric or gas service because of an unpaid bill.

“Unfortunately, these scammers sound legitimate and with a phony caller ID they’re even more convincing – so we all need to have our ‘guard up’ more than ever,” said Eversource Senior Vice President and Chief Customer Officer Penni Conner. “These scam artists sound sophisticated and are ruthless. That’s why we’re reminding customers to beware – if they get a call and the caller’s message doesn’t look or sound right – don’t panic and don’t pay. Remember, we will never threaten to disconnect service or demand instant payment over the phone.”

The energy company offers the following tips to help avoid becoming a victim:

· Eversource representatives never demand instant payment over the phone, require the use of pre-paid debit cards, or request customers meet at a “payment center” to make the payment.

· Never provide personal financial or account information to any unsolicited person on the phone, at the door or online, even if they seem legitimate.

· Beware – some sophisticated scammers can manipulate their caller ID to say the caller is with Eversource.

· Customers who are scheduled for disconnection due to nonpayment receive a written notice that includes information on how to maintain their service.

· Customers can verify they are speaking with an Eversource representative by asking for some basic information about their account – like the name on the account, the account address, and the exact past due balance.

Eversource urges anyone who believes they are a target of improper solicitation to immediately contact their local law enforcement. Customers are also encouraged to contact the energy company at l-800-662-7764 if they receive a call, text, email or if someone shows up at your door to verify it’s Eversource.

Please don’t park at the Farmington Recreation Department. It is posted and will be used for some upcoming events in March. Also in the late spring it may reopen for activities. We do not want to tow your vehicle so please use the parking your landlord has provided for you. Thank you.

Voting will be at the High School, 40 Thayer Drive. The closest parking will be at the lot on the right side closest to the fields. There will be signs to assist you. If you need handicapped parking it will be in front where the busses line up. There will also be signs to assist you. Remember your social distancing and we encourage you to wear a mask although it is not required. Thank you and get out and vote.

Just a reminder that Halloween is this Saturday October 31, 2020. Trick or treating will be from 4:00PM to 6:00PM. Please be safe out there and dress to be visible and warm. Carrying a flashlight is always a good idea. Wearing a mask during Covid-19 times is greatly appreciated and will make everyone feel more comfortable. Dress warmly as the High Temp is forecasted to be 47.

We are still here. We may take a few extra precautions to protect you and ourselves from the virus. We will still respond and talk to you in person or over the phone about any concerns you have emergency or otherwise. We will get through this rotten virus, it may just take a while. Think about you neighbors and local businesses as they all may be having a tough time. Hang in there Farmington.

With trick or treating today, this is just a friendly reminder to check your child’s candy before they consume it. Anything suspicious feel free to call the Farmington Police Department and an officer can help you. Candy should be individually wrapped and in good condition with no holes in the wrapper. Stay safe and be sure to carry a flashlight and dress appropriately for the weather. Drivers should be on the lookout for you, but never assume that they see you and will stop. Officers will be out to help and we look forward to seeing you. Have a safe and happy time.

Hay Day Reminder

Please remember that Hay Day is Saturday the 17th. The downtown area will be closed to vehicular traffic starting at 8:00 AM until about 4:30 PM. The usual detours will be in place to guide you around. Please plan accordingly as you’ll need to have your cars moved by 7:00 am. The Fireworks are scheduled for Saturday the 24th at dusk at the Henry Wilson School as usual. Thank you.

Leash Law

Please remember to keep your dog on a leash or under your control. We seem to be having a lot of dogs running loose this past month. We don’t want to see any of them get hit by a car, or bite someone. Remember to license your dog in April. Your help is greatly appreciated.
