SnapM September Images

I attended the September SnapM event for models, photographers and stylists a couple of weeks ago.

I didn't get to take too many pictures as I was a featured photographer, meaning I had my work on display and had to man the table. However, I did get a handful of interesting photos. To see more, please visit my Flickr set for the shoot.

BTW, the images below were high ISO shots with my Nikon D300. The first is ISO 1600, the second ISO 3200. I even added some noise to the first one for artistic purposes.

I recently did a fashion shoot with model Stephanie and hair/makeup artist Melissa. We did two looks: a high-fashion look in the studio and a more traditional and elegant approach outdoors.

featured at sept. 25 snapm event

I'm going to be a featured photographer at the Sept. 25 SnapM event in Bayonne, NJ.

These monthly events are gatherings of photographers, models, stylists and artists from the area. It's an opportunity to meet new folks to work with, as well as have a couple of drinks and relax. There are even shooting sets available to attendees.

I'll have a table with some of my work present. If you do stop by, please come and say hi.

I had the opportunity to attend a workshop near Hartford, CT, on Aug. 2 sponsored by One Model Place. We got to shoot indoors and outside.

And now for something totally different...

I had the opportunity last weekend to go to a New Jersey Jackals game. The Jackals play in the Can-Am League, which I suppose is considered semi-pro. The stadium was small, so every seat had a great view.

I shot the following with a 70-200mm lens from the stands. Here's a slideshow of the full set if you'd like to see more. Enjoy.

some inspiration from chase jarvis

Chase Jarvis is an inspirational photographer. He makes phenomenal images. But more important, he shares his knowledge with aspiring photographers. Really shares it. Just look at the video below. (Here's his blog post.)

In this video, Chase is working with members of the Strobist Flickr group in Seattle. Strobists are readers of the Strobist blog, which I've talked about here before. It focuses on using small flashes off camera, just like studio lights.

I'm just so impressed that a bit-time shooter like Chase is willing to spend his time and resources to help others learn. It shows real passion for photography, and a community spirit that really defines the Web 2.0 generation.

I attended my first SnapM event in Bayonne, NJ, last week. It's a monthly gathering of photographers, models, designers, etc.

canon g9 in macro mode

A little while back, I bought a Canon G9 point-and-shoot as a smaller alternative to my Nikon D300. In truth, it has turned out to be a very powerful camera, with 12.1 megapixels of resolution and the ability to shoot RAW and full manual.

It also has a macro mode, while I got a chance to play with this afternoon. I shot these handheld with no fancy setup. The G9 sure captured some nice color and detail.

Here are some images from a recent beauty shoot of Anna Catherine. Hair and makeup by Monique Albritton.

My goal was to create interesting but clean images. The shoot was in my studio using a Nikon D300, 85mm f/1.4 and strobes modified with a gridded beauty dish and gridded soft box/strip box. Enjoy!
