Coffee Stop

I wouldn't say I'm an obsessive coffee drinker. There was a time when I didn't drink it at all or I could only enjoy the taste of iced coffee. Now a days depending on my mood, I hit up Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts or the Keurig in the kitchen for a caffeine fix. Yesterday's place of choice was Starbucks.

I'm still a newbie when it comes to ordering hot coffee drinks, but I do like my lattes so a tall skinny caramel macchiatto ended up being the one to start my morning right.

Grunge Meets Varsity

The snow has melted and it's mild once again. It's suppose to be winter, right? Anyway I decided to take a break from wearing pants today and pulled this swingy plaid t-shirt dress from my closet. Since it has short sleeves, I automatically reached for a sweater to keep me warm. Plus I love and am a big fan of layering sweaters over collared shirts and dresses so whenever I can, I pair the two. The look is completed with a used and abused pair of brown lace up boots which gives off the 90s grunge feel I was going for for the day. While strolling by my old middle school, I couldn't help but stop by the football field to use it as a backdrop for some awesome photography. I think the photos say grunge meets varsity and I totally love it!

Snow Daze

There's nothing like the first snow fall. The ground gets powdered white and just screams that winter is here. I started my Sunday morning with a trip to the Dunkin drive-thru for a latte and then went off to play in the snow... sort of... making sure not slip and fall in my JC Tardy boots.

Chill Factor

As much as I tried to take outfit photos, the cold and wind refused to let me. Also my photographer (a.k.a. my sister) could not stand the chill air either and cursed the cold a couple of times before we retreated inside. Being that the cold air is finally here to stay in northern New Jersey, I thought I'd share some winter wear inspiration. It's definitely the time for me to bundle up, layer and keep warm with some gloves and a scarf. Oh and I can't forget to keep a hot cup of coffee or cocoa handy, it is a necessary after all this time of year.

Tag Along

I tagged along as my sister went to hang out with her old high school friend on Wednesday. We saw War Horse (*tear*) and went to a diner for some lunch. A funny story about the trip to the movie theater is that we were unknowingly 10 minutes late, but that ended up being a good thing since there were projector problems. We sat all the way in the back and could hear the staff making a fuss in the projector room trying to fix the problem, quite an experience haha. In the end, War Horse was a fantastic movie and also an emotional roller coaster.

Brick Lot

This morning I could not care less about what I was wearing and slipped on a few easy pieces. The sweater I'm wearing is a recent thrift find. I was instantly drawn to it because of the geometric pattern and white/baby blue color combo. With some leggings, my go-to parka, a couple of awesome accessories, and a pair of wedges, I was ready and out the door. Just going with the lazy feel that Sundays give, I had no real agenda for my day and positioned myself in front of a brick wall in an empty school parking lot walking aimlessly like I had nothing better to do.

Rendezvous

It seems like I went everywhere today. My sister and I headed out of the house early (before noon) which was a miracle since we usually find ourselves leaving much later. First stop of the day was to check out a thrift store we'd never been to. It was very organized and had a great selection of shoes, but prices were higher than the usual thrift stores I know. Plus it was not a discount day or vintage goldmine. Other errands included a run to Whole Foods, Salvation Army, Target and stocking up on some beauty supplies and makeup. We didn't get back home until around 6pm so we were basically out the whole day. Crazy, but we made time to take photos in between stops while the light was still out. Oh and finally taking my pink suede desert boots for a spin after buying them a couple months back.

Happy New Year! How's 2012 treating you so far?

I spent the morning with my sister taking advantage of Urban Outfitter's 50% off sale Sale, where I got a few nice pieces including two floppy hats. Afterward we went to Starbucks to get our first caffeine kick of the year and stopped by a park to take some photos.

Yay first outfit photos of the year! Hopefully I can keep up with the outfit posts this year. That is one of my New Year (Blog) Resolutions after all. Well I'm heading to spend the day with relatives in a bit so here's to a new year with more fun!

New Year's Eve is known for glitz and glamour. I think of it for all of the lights. Glitter, sequins, confetti and disco balls... when lights hit them, they sparkle and shine. I do not usually steer towards sparkly things, but lately I'm loving glitter and string lights. With today being the last day of 2011, I think why not gather some confetti and get ready to bring in 2012.

Yes, I do fancy editorials. And the fact that this one features a couple of my favorite things, Rodarte and the gorgeous Elle Fanning, it definitely gets my seal of approval. Coming from A Magazine's latest issue, this one curated by the genius Mulleavy sisters behind Rodarte, is full of 200 pages dedicated to if you didn't guess it yet, their showstopping brand. Elle Fanning is Rodarte's current muse and may only be 13 years old, but it doesn't mean she can't wear Rodarte. With a California house clad in 70s fixtures used as the setting, Elle stuns in the most delicate to couture-like dresses from Rodarte's Spring 2012 line. It's a wardrobe that this 23 year old could have ever dreamt of possessing during the awkward teenage years.

There's a scene in Lady Gaga's "Marry the Night" music video when she walks into a large foyer wearing a Versace rhinestone-studded denim outfit. It looks like she stepped right out of the 80s in full on light denim vest, jeans and bustier. My sister referenced how it reminded her of Desperately Seeking Susan, a 80s film that starred Madonna, which I totally agreed. And speaking of Desperately Seeking Susan and the 80s, I wanted to return to this editorial from Vogue Paris June-July 2011 issue.

Model Sasha Pivovarova channels early 80s Madonna wandering the streets of New York in layered ensembles. With a chill finally hitting the east coast, I think this is great inspiration for winter layering. And if you're fascinated by strong independent street style then this is the perfect inspiration for that.

The Starbucks coffee I started my day off with. I went with their holiday flavor Caramel Brulée Latte. Mmmm it was delicious!

I thought my sister looked cute in her gublernation tee. I had to take a photo before she rushed off to work (explains the blur).

Wearing one of my latest thrift finds, an Oscar de la Renta men's sweater and trying on my newest pair of Jeffrey Campbell shoes (In Trouble in leopard) once again.

From barely there to red lips to nudes and smoky eyes, the actress absolutely stuns and shows that she is a beauty. The close up photo of her with the red lips is my favorite and blows my mind because her eyes are so mesmerizing!

Thanksgiving Dress Up or Down

Inspired by Net-A-Porter's Thanksgiving Style guide and thinking about my own outfit for Turkey Day, this one question came to mind:

Do I want to dress up or down?

A typical question, right?

I showed this style guide to my sister earlier this morning. The page I bookmarked featured pieces for chic but effortless looks for the girl who likes to dress up a little, which is not exactly my sister's top choice. After telling her that there were other options, she was more than pleased with the easy comfort looks. I told her I'm more of a dress up gal, so I guess that answered my question.

I put together two looks depicting a dress up or dress down outfit. Whether you have a love for silky blouses or cardigans, I think you'll find something you like. Oh and don't forget your pants with stretch or leggings to handle your Thanksgiving feast.

Braidy Bunch

I'm no expert when it comes to doing my own hair. I usually wear it down and let it do its own thing. Most of the time I have my sister play around with it since I believe that my own hands are not capable of doing anything of greatness to style the hair from my head. After she did braided pigtails to finish the look of my Wednesday Addams costume this Halloween, I've been obsessed with braids.

I experimented with my own hair for once and braided my hair off to one side. So mine may not have the same effect as girls blessed with long hair, but it's a start. I working towards growing out my hair anyway. Oh and styling my own hair as well. I've been braiding my hair at night for wavy hair FYI. Yep, I'm one step closer to hair independence haha.

Sister Sister

Sisters. It appears that the fashion world is buzzing about sisters. Famous stylish sister duos, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen and Dakota and Elle Fanning, are on the cover of some top fashion magazines for December issues. MKA get their first Vogue cover together on the Best Dressed Issue wearing lace veils while Dakota and Elle wear lace dresses on W Magazine. I love the sweet gesture poses and beautiful photography. I'll definitely be picking up these up soon.

With me being so close to my younger (only by 13 months) sister, I feel touched and have a soft spot for these magazines featuring sisters. There's a special bond that you have that sometimes cannot be matched with others. You keep secrets together, look for advice from one another, inspire each other, share clothes and passions, etc. I don't know what I'd do or be like without my sister. She's one of my favorite people and always will be!

Rachel to the Zoe

I finally watched the latest season finale of The Rachel Zoe Project. The feeling of this episode was different than usual and I thoroughly enjoyed it that way. There were emotions of genuineness and happiness throughout. Rachel is balancing the roles of being a stylist and a mother to Skyler well. I loved seeing her not stressed out for once. Plus how can she be stressed when she has a beautiful family and a great team of people working for her that truly care for her and the brand she is building. The outdoor barbecue was my favorite part especially when the speeches began. You could definitely tell that those emotions were genuine and not fake at all. Tears of joy all around and yes they re-hired Jeremiah!

Rachel Zoe is a creative and inspiring stylist. As with any fashion maven, a working space is just as important so let your jaw drop in awe with The Coveteur's photos of Zoe Headquarters. I'm dying over the extensive collection of shoes Rachel has on hand for styling jobs. Now that's a serious stylist who likes to be prepared! It also inspires me to think how I'd like my workspace to look one day. Ah dreaming already.

And turning back to the finale, the lookbook shoot for Rachel's Resort 2012 collection was shown and wow the styling was amazing. The stunning blonde model rocked every look and definitely had a Rachel Zoe look-a-like feel to her. Strong poses and Zoe-ified clothing that looks like she would wear herself sold them to me. Some of my favorites are below.

Just Call Me Wednesday Addams

I'm not usually one to dress up on Halloween. The first big Halloween costume that I can remember wearing was Red Riding Hood when I was in kindergarten. As years passed, dressing up on Halloween was not a big deal to me. I think due to a lack of creativity, but I would make the effort sometimes. Last year I was a 1920s flapper clad in red and well, I have to say this year's costume is my best one ever!

Wednesday Addams. What can I say about her? She's the ultra cool and dark souled daughter of Gomez and Morticia Addams and sister of Pugsley. She sports pigtailed black hair in a white collared black dress and never wears a smile on her face. Oh and she was portrayed by Christina Ricci in the 90s movies. Pretty awesome, right?! Pulling this look together was easy and consisted of a couple pieces from my wardrobe. Seriously anyone can pull this off! I will definitely keep this as an option for future Halloweens or costume parties. Wednesday Addams, I so love you right now!

When I opened the November issue of ELLE, I was instantly attracted to this editorial. There was something about the lighting or filter used that had me stop and stare. The styling had the same effect on me too. I like the use of bold colors, prints and accessories as well as the flirty poses. My favorite look is the floral print dress with strappy wedges. It screams DATE NIGHT or is that just me? Plus her pose exudes an air of confidence that makes you wish you were her. Yeah, I'd want to be her wearing that look no doubt!

Collar Chic

I've been a bit obsessed with collars since Miu Miu S/S 2010 RTW collection. These cute detachable printed collars were a hit on and off the runway. Besides me praising them for their versatility and how they could add some attitude to a shirt or dress, every blog loved them too and did their own DIY post.

Soon the return of the peter pan collar arose. These rounded collars add such a sweet touch to feminine dresses and pieces. Today collars from pointed to round, embellished to plain, and detachable to necklace style are everywhere. For fall, I enjoy layering collared shirts under my sweaters. I like the look of a collar peeking from underneath and how it changes up the original neckline.

As for my new favorite collar obsession, Louis Vuitton S/S 2012 runway had me in awe with the scalloped eyelet collars. They're absolutely stunning! Marc Jacobs you are a genius!

It's been a couple of weeks since the first day of autumn, but the weather has not been a breeze. Mother nature has been a bipolar lady lately with lots of rain with hints of sun going in and out of hiding. Oh and humidity present at all times too. However, waking up this morning I finally felt a chillness in the air so it looks like fall is on its way.

One of my favorite things about the fall season is the fashion. Take me to any retail store right now and I'll tell you that I want almost everything on display. There's just something about fall fashion that I can never get enough of, especially sweaters! They have become the go-to pieces in my wardrobe each fall, add a bit of comfort to a look, versatile and wonderful for layering. YES, I love sweaters!

Hello! So it's already the end of September and yes I have neglected this creative space for way too long. I've been busy balancing work, me time and catching up on fashion week(s) coverage. I just wanted to make a quick post to let you guys know that I'm alive and well.

One of my favorite things to do is raid through my parents' old clothes. The rewarding part about it is that I know that I can find some interesting pieces that no one else has. This lightweight blazer was just hanging around before I snapped it up for myself. I love the swirly loop design around the cuffs and along the lapels. It adds some pizazz to a plain outfit. And this blazer is perfect for this transitional period from the summer to fall.

Minimalism is the heart of achieving the 60s mod look. I applaud Grace Coddington for her fantastic styling in this editorial for she truly does capture the feel of this era.

Fall is just around the corner and one of its biggest trends is the 70s. My sister and I have been currently talking about the 70s after some recent shopping trips and noticing the theme going on. The retail store she works at even started to carry flares in a variety of styles from the trouser to a retro flare to a more subtle flare. We're actually contemplating what style flare we want to buy and let me tell you that this is kind of weird to me because I'm afraid to steer clear from skinny jeans, but you know what change is always good. As for my sister, she's totally willing to branch out plus she's all in and loving the 70s trend right now.

Enjoy and take a trip to the 70s with this retro revival editorial. Raid your parents' closets, local thrift and retail stores for some awesome threads because fall is looking groovy.
