Though we’ve all grown tired of this look–last year everyone from Lala to Cassie to Rih Rih shaved their heads–it seems Mel B is still trying to keep the trend going well into 2010. Why she would opt for this particular choice is befuddling. Maybe she’s trying to bring it back? Perhaps she did it in solidarity with her adolescent daughter Phoenix?

Whatever her reasons, I’m hmm’ing hard.

I’m not sure how I missed this pic of model Tolula Adeyemi at the opening of Mary’s Living and Giving Shop in London back in June of ‘09, but I sure am glad I finally came across it. Ms. Adeyemi is absolutely *Miss Jay voice* exquisite in her pinky-bronzy illuminating look. I literally got up and started kissing my computer screen when I saw it. *swoon*

If you’re a Tolula enthusiast like I’m a Tolula enthusiast, then you’ll want the scoop on how to get her look. I got you covered. And Spring is right around the corner…

Now let’s get it! (Whatever happened to G Dep and Black Rob?)

1. I cannot stress enough how much beautiful makeup starts with beautiful skin, but with a look like this where the main focus is the skin, I need to stress it double-time. Be sure to cleanse, tone, and moisturize your skin according to your skin type.

This look can be hard to pull off successfully if you have large pores, pesky acne, or *gasp* facial hair. Groomed brows are also a must.

2. To smooth out pores and fine lines, begin with a foundation primer like Smashbox Photofinish Foundation Primer. Then apply a foundation stick that provides full coverage yet allows your skin to look like your skin but better. I should buy stock in Becca Cosmetics with as much as I recommend their products, but I love their Foundation Stick long time for its creamy texture, concealing properties, and it comes in an array of shades perfect for women of any color. Set with a loose powder–guess what my favorite loose powder is? Yep—Becca! Their Fine Loose Finishing Powder does its job of setting your makeup but doesn’t give you “cakey face”.

Since we’re not doing eyeshadow with this look, don’t forget to apply the Foundation Stick and Fine Loose Finishing Powder all over your lids, too.

3. To steal Tolula’s everlasting glow, generously dab a pink shimmery luminizer (like Benefit Moon Beam—works on virtually all skin tones) on your cheekbones (don’t worry if you apply too much, you can blot it down with some loose powder), a touch on the bridge of your nose, a quick dab at your temples, and a light dot on the tip of your chin.

4. Dust a shimmery bright pink blush (like MAC Dollymix Sheertone Shimmer Blush) on your cheeks. Apply some more luminizer on the tops of your cheekbones if needed.

5. Finish with a creamy peachy-pink lip gloss like MAC Lipglass in Florabundance, two coats of mascara (try Maybelline Lash Stilleto), and a few spritzes of MAC Fix+ Spray.

So today I randomly revisited a Clutch Magazine article I interviewed for called “Are Black Fashion Bloggers Being Ignored?,” and saw that comments had exploded!

While some readers felt blogs like Street Etiquette, Jazzi Mc G, and the Fashion Bomb were definitely being thrown some shade, others accused ethnic blogs of reverse racism.

One person named Malwi said, “Well, if Black fashion blog owners don’t want to be overlooked, maybe they should stop catering to Black community only? Fashion Bomb writes about things that only involve Black people, Black models, Black celebs. That is racist. And “White” blogs cater to everyone!”
As I said in the article, I majored in African American studies, and prefer to feature people of color because that’s what interests me. Then again, can we really complain about Vogue not having diversity if we don’t either?

What are your thoughts? Should we mix it up?

Vuitton here with a quick round-up of a few of our favorite stars over the weekend.  While most looked hot at parties and appearances, others fizzled, not quite hitting the mark.

Let’s take a gander, shall we?

First up, we have Estelle and Keisha Whitaker…

The two were seen partying the night away at Keisha Whitaker’s birthday dinner looking hot!  Estelle always looks stunning in pencil dresses, and I love the pop of color in the belt.  That fuschia colored number that Keisha compliments her skin tone perfectly, but something about the fit at the bust makes me go hmm…

LeToya Luckett also celebrated her birthday this weekend in a cute black playsuit and gray suede YSL TribToo Pumps…

A fun, sassy look for the birthday girl.  Although her dress from last week would’ve been the perfect birthday outfit, I’m not mad at this one.  Hot!

Mr. Jay and his platinum hair attended the GLAAD Media Awards…

And I have to hand it to him.  He’s been looking rather dapper lately.  While I’m not typically a fan of three piece suits, he pulls off the look very well, and I love dress shirts with contrasting collars.  Sharply tailored and just all around fly.

Forest Whitaker and Lance Gross were spotted on BET’s 106th & Park pubbing their new film, “Our Family Wedding”.

Forest looks pretty laid-back, but I’m feeling the jacket.  It gives the outfit some much needed “umph”, despite the color.  But something about Lance’s look makes me go hmm…  I’m in lust with those sneakers and the jeans, but the Gucci beanie needs to be nixed.  And I’m not so sure about the vest either.  Maybe if the sleeves of his shirt was longer, I would’ve been on board.

Leona Lewis and Mel B. were spotted hanging with Natasha Bedingfield at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas this weekend.

Corset tops are usually hit or miss with me, but Leona gets it right.  And can we talk about that clutch? Hot!  Mel B looks amazing as usual, but I can’t help but think that I’ve seen this look before.  Hmm…  Natasha Bedingfield went a little more casual than the other two, but her drapy burgundy top and gold peep-toe pumps keep the glam factor up.  Hot!

And last but not least is Jay-Z, in concert in Atlantic City.

I guess it really is all black everything.  Though not a man of many colors, his subdued ensembles always seem to work to his advantage.  I’m ready to do a run-by on that jacket of his.  Yeah, he’s wearing sunglasses indoors, but it never detracts from any of his looks.  Hot!
