A few months ago I received a press kit from Donna Ida containing, amongst many other things, a set of fake tattoos (see Love above). For years I have played with fake tattoos. I think my first was at a school fair when I was about six. I'm sure at the time my parents were a wee bit concerned that I seemed to be obsessed with covering my body in strange sayings or images, or a combination even.

Yet, here I sit at the age of 33 with not one real tattoo to speak of. I've watched enviously as friends have come home with wonderful works of art or meaningful words printed on their skin for all eternity, but I myself have yet to step into the parlour for decoration. You see I am a commitment-phobe in every sense of the word. So when it comes to something as permanent as a tattoo, you can understand I like to stick my head in the sand and avoid the idea completely. Give me a fake tattoo any day of the week and some soap to wipe it off when I'm bored of the choice after three days. That's my MO.

So I'm just wondering, dear reader, if you have walked down the road of body art and what you've chosen to display and how? Please share in the comments below... I'd love to hear stories of what, where, how and when!

Also, feel free to share any thoughts on tattoos in general... I know it's an area where many have very strong opinions both for and against the idea.

Going Nude for my daily moisturiser

Over the past few weeks I've been talking a lot about miracle serums, skin tighteners and magical elixirs that are all new to the market. It occurred to me, however, that I haven't really talked about the most basic essential- the must have daily moisturiser. Since March I have been using Nude's Replish Daily Moisturiser. If ever there were a product that makes you feel as if your skin is quite literally taking a drink, this here's your hero product. Add to that the fact that it smells absolutely divine and you have a happy combination.

Frankly speaking, most products that I've tested over the last year have caused less than desirable reactions and the overall experience of the product has been a let down. Some will smell great but cause a breakout, others will smell more foul than my neighbour's trash on a Tuesday, but do the trick when it comes to providing your skin with that baby soft texture. Let's just say, when you can find a combination of lovely smell and above average results for skin texture and appearance, it's a winner in my mind.

Since using Nude's Replenish Daily Moisturiser, I have had zero problems with dry skin. Even after spending three days in the sun in Greece and getting burnt to a crisp, my skin did not peel. I owe this entirely to the twice daily application of Nude to keep the flaky after-sun skin at bay. I'm a peeler and this is literally the first time I have been able to completely avoid that embarrassing muddled tan due to overexposure to the sun. Don't worry, I'm well aware of the risks, so park the need to lecture me on spending too much time in the sun. I live in England so don't see it often enough.

So what the heck makes this product tick? Well, it's overflowing with nutrients that help to hydrate, moisturise and turn back the unforgiving hands of time. It's also free of all those nasty things you don't need in a skincare that so many people are insisting on providing these days. So all in, it's the perfect product.

Rupert and the Recorder: Announcing the Music Bag Collection from Rupert Sanderson

A few weeks ago I found myself in the Rupert Sanderson showroom examining the autumn winter 2013 collection. Anyone familiar with the brand knows these are the shoes favoured by celebs the world over for everything from red carpet style to sidewalk strolls. The new collection is naturally no exception. However, there was a new element on show in the studio that will see Rupert Sanderson moving from women's feet to the hand/shoulder arena. Ok, that wording doesn't' work out brilliantly. What I'm trying to say is Rupert Sanderson has created a handbag collection and what's particularly interesting about this new venture is the inspiration behind the collection.

It turns out Rupert Sanderson dabbled in playing the recorder when he was a young boy. For the younger generations out there, you may not be familiar with this worldwide phenomenon when kids were introduced to the idea of music by being forced to play an instrument that, to me at least, always seemed like a child's clarinet. In the USA we just threw ours in our backpacks without much thought of keeping them safe. Seems kids in the UK had a little bit more respect for their musical instruments. How do I know this? Well, I got to meet Rupert Sanderson's music bag from when he was a six-year-old. This is one chic piece of leather, people, so chic in fact that it inspired a whole collection of handbags.

Yes, the Rupert Sanderson collection is entirely inspired by Rupert's old leather music satchel. And there's no mistaking that the satchel we are shown belonged to Mr. Sanderson. His name is scribbled all over the front. Perhaps the first indication that one day his name would be a label to covet?

A shout out to Hockley London and remembering London Fashion Week

When one is having lunch with an editor and said editor mentions they fell in love with a fur coat you were wearing over fashion week, it instantly becomes a topic of further discussion. Such was the case last week as as I sat at Cecconi's and explained to an editor all about my unhealthy obsession with Hockley London. She had mentioned that she had been meaning to ask me about one orange-ish poncho I sported on day two of London Fashion Week and had just never really come around to it.

Apparently Madame Editor was waiting for me to do a story on FFG about my winter warmer from LFW. In fact, I embarrassingly told her I thought I had instagrammed about the item and tweeted about my luxury obsession but had not acknowledged the beautiful pieces in the manner they deserved. Her response… "it's never too late."

So that's why we find ourselves here today folks, where I belatedly acknowledge my London Fashion Week love affair with the incredible design and industry expertise found with Hockley London fur and showcase the styles I sported. I wore not one, but three of their pieces during London Fashion Week last season and there was an overwhelming response from friends and family present at the tents. Yes, there were the occasional few that had something to say about me stepping out in fur. I, of course, took the opportunity to explain to them why when it comes to fur I've done my research and my buying starts and stops with Hockley London.

While hopefully the sun will start to shine and you will see me moving from fur to smart cotton summer dresses, I am, for now at least, still sporting the smaller accessories to keep warm on the colder London mornings. Hard to believe I'm saying that and it's almost June here!

House of Holland "stirring" things up this season...

I know it's only May, but I find myself already getting excited about the autumn winter offering hitting shelves in a matter of months. As I was flipping back through my pictures of London Fashion Week AW13/14 (I'm working on a trends piece at the moment), I tripped upon the close ups from House of Holland and a rush of excitement swept over me. I had nearly forgotten all about Henry Holland's marvellous Martini embellishments for the season. Truly, this was one of the most exciting details for me at the shows in London. What can I say? I wear my heart on my sleeve(s) these days and as I seem to have big love for vodka martinis, this attire will suit me perfectly for the days ahead.

Henry Holland, count on some orders from this lady as I think I'll need to have one of everything, including the earrings!

The Great Gatsby Tiffany & Co. Engagement Ring as worn by Carey Mulligan, aka Daisy, is worth $3.9 million!

This weekend, while shopping with Mr. FFG, we decided to pop into Tiffany & Co. The windows drew us in as they were all appropriately themed to reflect the firms involvement with The Great Gatsby. Since I'd previewed the film last week, I'd had one piece of jewellery stuck in my head. Before we are introduced to Carey Mulligan's character Daisy in the film, we meet her massive engagement ring first. As she frolics with a friend on the couch, their fingers intertwine and the biggest diamond I've yet to encounter sparkles from Daisy's finger. I couldn't take my eyes off of this beautiful bling. Before the ring exited the shot I whispered to Mr. FFG... "If you were looking for the perfect engagement ring, you've just seen it."

Then came the visit to Tiffany's. We walked in and instead of heading for the engagement ring section of the counter, I went straight for a sales assistant. "Do you have The Great Gatsby engagement ring in stock by chance?" Asking such a question I knew what the answer would be, but for entertainment value it can't be beat. Of course they wouldn't have such a ring just sitting out in the counter for all to see. It's a gem, a rarity, a ring so beautiful it demands it's own team of security guards to follow it around town. That all being said, the answer I was given from the sales assistant was stunning. She took a moment to go to the back and ask the appropriate questions and returned with an image of the ring in a look book. As she flipped to the page and pointed out the beauty I had fallen for she stated, "the ring Carey Mulligan wore in the The Great Gatsby has a value of $3.9 million. Sadly, it has already been sold so is not available for sale."

Now, dear reader, blogging has not been so good to me that I can afford to think about a $3.9 million diamond. I wish I could report otherwise, but sadly this is not the case. So when I was informed that the ring was a) $3.9 million dollars and b) already sold, I used the absolute correct expression in receiving this answer. I appeared to be greatly saddened because of course who wouldn't want to wear a $3.9 million dollar diamond ring on their finger? Apparently someone in the world right now is doing just that. Being the continued professional, the Tiffany's sales assistant then led me over the counter where she proceeded to show me ring after ring that might delivery the same enthusiastic reaction. At this point, naturally, Mr. FFG was still recovering in the corner from having heard his partner had her eyes set on a ring that was $3.9 million.

Ralph Lauren Polo Ponies take over New Bond Street

If you found yourself walking down New Bond Street late last Thursday, you might have been met with a very unexpected scene at the entrance of Ralph Lauren in London. If you're a fan of the brand, however, you'll know this setup is one that is all too familiar with the Ralph Lauren brand message. On Thursday night, two polo ponies stood front and centre welcoming guests to a celebration of all things polo. Nigerian polo player Kola Karim and polo legend/Ralph Lauren ambassador Nacho Figueras were the hosts for the evening as the blue carpet stretched along the entrance to the Ralph Lauren store welcoming brand and polo enthusiasts alike.

Guest enjoyed champagne, canapes and a create-your-own polo shirt bar. Then of course there were the beautiful models wandering around the store dressed head to toe in Ralph Lauren current collection. If ever there were a question of what attire to wear to polo matches this summer, Ralph Lauren was providing all the answers. While the polo ponies couldn't stay, the looks are definitely in store all season.

Summer Shape-Up: Barrecore London for the Hard-core Londoner

A few friends of mine have been chatting about this Barrecore business for sometime now. Basically they were screaming and shouting about how it turned your core into a rock solid beautiful centre piece. I hummed and hawed and more or less wondered how hard an exercise class could be. What ever happened to just running after work?

Present day Londoners seem to favour the "go hard or go home" mentality when it comes to working out these days and there are more and more classes popping up around town in studios and less people slaving away at the gym or outside on their own. Why spend two hours in a gym working your tail off when an hour session with some of the toughest trainers in London will do the trick? Well, that's the thinking anyway...

So I decided to stop sitting and listening to those who were going on about how great these classes are and instead stand up, sport the spandex and jump in on the fun. Again, Barrecore seemed to the one studio I was hearing about the most so it was first on the list.

Let me start by saying that Barrecore will actually give you a hard core... but be prepared to go hardcore. I started out in the class, that looked more like a ballerina studio than a workout studio, with the impression that the entire thing would be a breeze and I'd go and sip some Starbucks after as a reward for hard work done. Well, I'm just going to come right out and say that by minute eight I was pretty sure I was going to have trouble making it down the stairs, let alone into an establishment for a hot drink.

I'd like to be able to do a thorough review here and tell you the exercises we did and how they worked my body, but most of it's a blur of pain and a great sense of accomplishment at the finish. Ok, I can feel some of you getting scared. When I say "pain," I mean it in a good way. Any workout junkie will tell you that pain, or rather soreness, is always a sign of the best workout on the planet. I haven't felt this in some time and it was quite literally a high I ran off of for two days after the workout.

The Barrecore workout itself it broken down into sets that concentrate on different parts of the body. I loved the fact we were told what exactly each exercise was doing to get rid of trouble spots. I could feel my bingo wings being worked out, my love handles whispering for mercy and my thighs kissing goodbye to the endless jiggle.

After one hour I walked out of Barrecorre and onto the Kings Road feeling like I was on the road to body recovery. This is a workout and a half and I can only imagine that if done three times a week you'd have a body like Elle Macpherson in no time. One thing's for sure, you certainly do feel as if you have gotten your money's worth.

Bottom line, if you are looking to shape up this summer and you are willing to put in the time and money to do so, Barrecore will make sure you get there.

So now for the details. For one class, and I do recommending at least going to try one, there is a cost of £28. There are also several different package deals available that bring this price per class down remarkably. At the moment, I'm considering taking on the six week summer challenge which is a package of six week unlimited classes for £375. Anyone wanna give it a go with me?

Watching The Great Gatsby at Kensington Palace and loving every minute of it from start to finish

Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby was released today and this morning the reviews were, well let's just say the reviews were not good. Critic after critic slammed this movie as being a disgrace to the original and a shotty adaptation of a beloved work of literary genius. I read the reviews, I digested them, came to terms with them. Then I looked at my invitation to attend the Harrods private screening at Kensington Palace and thought, "I've been invited to attend a special screening of this film in a decadent location with one of the leading department stores in London. So if all else fails I will have had a lot of fun with some fabulous people and a great view." Having now come out the other side of the evening, I'd like to tell you that not only were the location, the guest list and the drinks menu fabulous, so too was the film itself.

For me, personally speaking, Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby had been damned in my mind since the moment I heard it was going into production. How could Robert Redford in Ralph Lauren ever be topped on the big screen for me? My Great Gatsby was Redford and that was the end of that. So again, I must state that I didn't have high hopes for this movie. The reviews were bad and my own judgement clouded. However, my God was I baffled by what I encountered. Baz Luhrmann has created a beautiful cinematic moment and Leonardo DiCaprio has delivered the role of Great Gatsby with such perfection that I nearly forgot my love of Robert Redford.

My only true sadness was in finding that the end of The Great Gatsby remains the same (for those of you that have read the book, you'll feel my pain already here). The fact that I was just as emotionally distraught as I was the first time watched the original Great Gatsby only proves my point in how well this film is made. While I know everyone has their own taste in movies, I will say that this one for me was a real winner. Ignore the critics and take a risk on seeing an amazing and classic story come to life once again on the big screen. I hope it will be worth every minute of your time, as it certainly was for me.

Now, onto some fun things I can share without ruining Gatsby's tale.

Alongside an amazing screening room set-up, Harrods treated us to flamboyant popcorn girls, delicious cocktails, an exhibition of the original Tiffany jewellery used in the film and a selection of costumes the characters wore in the movie.

This was certainly a night to remember. Thank you, Harrods!

Coach... road-tested and still in perfect condition after thirty years on the planet

I remember hearing my grandmother talk about trusted handbags as a child. I'm pretty sure she was speaking of small delicate clutches and how a good investment in a proper evening bag would last you a lifetime. I can't be sure if these memories are true or ones that have just appeared in my memory over time, randomly, as I've become more and more obsessed with remembering my earliest moments with fashion. One thing I do remember, clear as day, is my mother's own obsession with her buttery soft Coach leather bags. Some she still has in her closet after thirty years on earth, and some I have liberated from her stash. I'm thinking one handbag won't go missed too badly, will it?

Well, the cat's officially out of the bag as I'm sharing this now. Today I took my (or her) vintage Coach bag out for a twirl in London. With not a scratch on it, it looks as if it could be a bag from the recent collection Net-a-Porter carried celebrating the brand's heritage. However, this classic is dated circa 1983. It's an oldie but a goodie.

The reason I bring this up now is to draw your attention to the real investments in leather goods. All too often we are persuaded to part with our money as we fall for the "it" bag of the season. However, the "it" bag only lasts as long as it's hot. There is no thirty year plan for the must have bag. It is constructed and exists to be treasured like fashion folklore. It serves it's purpose and then quietly steps aside for the newbie to take over the next season.

In my life, I have seen only a handful of designs from brands that have stood the test of time. The old favourites come to mind - Hermes, Gucci, Louis Vuitton and, of course, Coach. Their creations continue to be treasured and handed down through the generations. These are the bags that not only hold their monetary value but also a great sentimental value as well. It's with this thought in mind that I would like to encourage those entering the handbag arena to think outside the "it" bag phenomenon and think about contributing a bag that will stand the test of time in a material that will look better thirty years down the road that it did the first day it was carried.

And for those of you with access to an older generation's closet, try shopping in their archive this weekend. I think you'll be surprised by what you find and what has miraculously come back into style.

Volkswagen's shout out to tall girls

A good friend of FFG's just sent this ad in with a note: "Why aren't you the star of this commercial?" Well, it's hard to star in a commercial you didn't even know was happening. But now that I've seen it, I'm madly in love. Volkswagen has taken a moment to shout out to tall girls worldwide with their latest advert. Sure, it's advertising the amazing head and leg room in Volkswagen's latest vehicle. However, it's sharing so much more.

As a girl that stands 6'2, I know how it feels to look in a shop window and lust after a pair of six inch heels and I've more or less come to grips with the fact that most men I meet in business will be shorter than me. So watching this brilliant ad from Volkswagen got me all misty eyed. Finally.... I feel understood. This one's for you, tall gals...

Paris bound with Cartier to discover the Paris Nouvelle Vague collection

It's been a few months since I told you I was headed to Paris on a top secret mission. I suspect, at this point, you've forgotten I was there at all. It has been extremely difficult to stay hush hush on my reasons for Eurostaring over to Paris for all this time, but I can now reveal that I was in town on a special appointment with none other than Cartier. I mean if one must be in Paris, can you think of a better tour guide than the brand that decorates some of the world's most sophisticated individuals in France and further afield?

Cartier had asked me to pop over to be one of the first to photograph and try on their latest, the Cartier Paris Nouvelle Vague Collection. I don't suppose I have to go into too much detail as to why I felt breathless as I stood before precious jewels masterfully set to create wearable works of art. However, with this collection in particular there was a feeling of real appreciation for emotion and the way in which a woman's personality is reflected in the jewellery she chooses to purchase.

The collection itself is made up of seven different personalities or characters celebrating the Cartier Parisian woman - Mischievous, Voluptuous, Impish, Emancipated, Sparking, Glamour and Delicate.

As the press release reads, this is "A collection designed as a hymn to her multiple nuances and hues, her secrets of seduction and style." It is a rather catchy tune, that hymn, I'll freely admit that. As I slipped on bracelets and necklaces worth more than I make in a year, maybe a few years actually, I instantly tuned in to what it must feel like to be the Cartier woman. Oh it is a magical feeling indeed.

Reporting smaller pores after dinner with Ole Henriksen in London

Over the course of four years of writing Fashion Foie Gras, I have met some interesting people, however, last week I met one man who will forever be on the top of the list when it comes to most interesting encountered. As I walked into Vanilla on Great Titchfield Street in London, I was greeted by a man who, although not tall in stature, had more personality than any individual I had ever come into contact with (keeping in mind I've dated men as large as seven feet tall). For those of you that have met him, you know I could be speaking of no one other than the skin guru Ole Henriksen. If you haven't met him yet, I hope with all my heart that you get the opportunity one day.

Before having dinner with this master of his trade, I had heard many things about his products. People had told me Ole Henriksen had given their skin new life, had completely transformed skin they had otherwise given up on. Of course when you hear such things these days we all usually just go, "ya, ya, another miracle worker. Who isn't these days?" However, when people with enviable skin keep telling you these things you do start to think they might be onto something. So when the dinner invitation came in to meet Ole, my curiosity got the best of me.

Dinner, as you can imagine was a luxury event. But the sweet spot of the evening was Ole himself. He was so refreshingly honest about his past, present and what he hopes to be his future. His honesty in wanting to sincerely help women and men above all else was quite simply enchanting and I was definitely under his spell by the end of the evening. Ole actually began his love affair with skincare after fighting his own battle with acne and being healed with natural remedies while in Indonesia....and there begins his journey to fame. And yes, this man is famous. He has treated every person you can think of that's a big name around the world. Oh, if his little black book could talk.

Now, being charmed by the master of charm himself is one thing but the proof of the products is always in the pudding. I left on the night with two products under my arm - The Ultimate Lift Firming Serum (out in August) and the Pure Truth Youth Activating Oil. Here I was thinking I was set in my skincare treatment and this combo has thrown me for yet another loop.

Honestly, I don't know how you beauty bloggers do it. From one product to the next this is the worst kind of product love affair. That all being admitted, Ole Henriksen has wiped all other products off my bathroom shelf when it comes to serums and oils.

Here's what I've seen so far for results. The most dramatic change has been with the size of my pores. I kid you not I am cursed with massive pores, which have as of today all but disappeared. I have no idea how it works but it does. I am now calling this duo the pore diet plan. Your pores won't know what hit them. I've also noticed that my skin is very dewy and soft... also a plus point. It's the early stages yet, obviously, but such a quick transformation is surely worthy of praise.

I'll update as time goes on as this is one brand I think I need to explore further.

While most brands tend to use supermodels to display their accessories collections, Valentino decided to pull from behind the camera, using photographer Terry Richardson in their campaign. The photographer's tattooed arm is seen holding onto the Rockstud Clutch and Rockstud heel from the new collection. It does require a double-take, doesn't it?

ASOS released the Hipster heel this past week and it's definitely a shoe to lift spirits. For some reason it has us wanting to do the Charleston in a flapper dress... blame Great Gatsby. Anywho, the shoe's only £40 and it's worth every penny for showing off some fantastic footwork. Can anyone make heads or tails of the ads seen above?

A car company in Brazil, PG Prime, thought that it would be wise to put fashion designers names together with "intelligent" figures of the past...or at least we think that's what's happening here. And what was the point of such an act? Well, they're advertising the Range Rover Sport as luxurious and intelligent, and, in fact, used the headline "Luxury and Intelligence Finally Together." Now if we were Carolina Herrera or Giorgio Armani, we might be scratching our heads this morning with great gusto.

Happy Mother's Day from what feels like a million miles away

(Me and momma goose from kids to grown-ups...man, I had some ugly faces as a kid)

My mother and I used to scream and shout at each other like you wouldn't belief. What we used to scream and shout about, however, may come as the biggest surprise. Our arguments were over clothing. I would come downstairs dressed for school every morning and inevitably my mother would say, "Go back upstairs and change immediately. You aren't wearing that to school." Looking back I can see, clearly my mother was doing me a favour.

As I was a child of the eighties and nineties, I played with some of the most ridiculous trends out there and had my mother not stopped me dead in my tracks I probably would have gone down a very different path with my style.... a path with a very abrupt dead-end. Keeping this in mind, I think there is no one on this earth more surprised by my current occupation than the woman that had to send me crying back up the stairs every morning to change into more suitable attire. Mom... I owe you one!

So why bring all this up today? Well, today's a tough day in the Fashion Foie Gras household. It's Mother's Day in America and I'm over 3,000 miles away from the mother I should be hugging at this very moment. While there are a thousand and one reasons I should be there right now, more than any I should be there because this is the first Mother's Day my mom is celebrating without her own mother on earth. Such a thought quite literally runs shivers up my spine. Imagining being here without my mother on the other end of a phone is something I can't, and won't ever be able to comprehend. But right now, at this very moment, that is what my own mother is dealing with. So I thought I'd take a few moments to give a shout out to Momma J, or more appropriately titled "Momma Goose."

If it weren't for Momma Goose, there would be no Fashion Foie Gras. Since I was a young one, my mother worked hard to instill a belief that absolutely anything was possible. I was born into an era where the doors were wide open for women to do almost anything they wanted in life. We didn't have to be housewives, we could be pioneers of Fortune 500 companies, if that was our desire. While I blew this way or that way on whether or not I wanted to settle down in the South or scatter my goose feathers further afield, my mother always let me know she'd be there to help me wherever I landed. The fact that I've landed so far away, and have stayed here for the past 11 years, however, has perhaps ruffled a few feathers with Momma Goose. I think she expected I'd soar away, but like a boomerang, sore back to my hometown to lay the foundation for my future. While most weeks are "manageable," days like today are always the hardest.

So I'd like to say this to Momma Goose today... While there are giant oceans between us, there is no one that I carry closer in my heart. Everything I am today, everything I stand for, everything I believe in and everything I have become is because of you and your belief in me. All those fights, tears shed, harsh words and ridiculous eye rolls have lead us to today where I'm lucky enough to call my mom my best friend.

Next year we're spending Mother's Day together. And who knows... maybe both of us will be mothers at that point. Ok, don't freak out! I'm not preggers! But wouldn't it be fun to have some baby geese running around the marsh sometime soon?
